Daily Morning Lesson: August 25, 2025

Part 1: Recorded Lesson - November 7, 2021. Baal HaSulam. Shamati 52. A Transgression Does Not Extinguish a Mitzva.

Reader: In the first part of the lesson, we're going to learn from a recorded lesson from November 7, 2021, Shamati 52, “A Transgression Does Not Extinguish a Mitzva,” from “One should ask why does he deserve such punishment.”

Reader: We are continuing, “We must ask.”

Reading: (00:33) 52. A Transgression Does Not Extinguish a Mitzva

We must ask, “Why does he deserve such a punishment?” When one falls from one’s work, he must be aided to rise from the fall. But here we see that more obstacles are added to him so he would fall lower than the first fall.

M. Laitman: Here it speaks of when a person does something, an egoistic thing, he doesn't see it right away. He wants to come out of it, and he immediately comes out of it, or rather, they add additional ego to him, more than what he had before, because specifically by that he feels how egoistic was his action, how he was thinking of himself for his own benefit. And what comes out is that he can only advance like that when he has greater remorse for what was in order to come out of it, and that's how he advances. Meaning, in order to come out of his egoistic thoughts of himself, for the sake of himself, in order to come out of that, he needs to enter into a greater ego and to see how much this ego is to his detriment, and then he comes out of it, and he can do something for the sake of the Creator. Meaning, he needs to seemingly receive twice as much punishment than he actually deserves. And that's why our falls are much more than the ascents. Read again, “we should ask…”

Reading: (03:04) 52. A Transgression Does Not Extinguish a Mitzva - Twice

We must ask, “Why does he deserve such a punishment?” When one falls from one’s work, he must be aided to rise from the fall. But here we see that more obstacles are added to him so he would fall lower than the first fall.

But in order to feel hatred for the evil, he is given more evil, so as to feel how the transgression removes him from the work of the Creator. Although he regretted the first transgression, he still did not feel regret enough to bring him hatred for the evil.

Hence, a transgression prompts a transgression, and every time he regrets, and each remorse certainly instigates hatred for the evil until the measure of his hatred for the evil is completed, and then he is separated from the evil, since hatred induces separation.

M. Laitman: Meaning, he needs to receive punishment more than what he actually deserves according to his deed in order to learn to not do it ever again, so that he will have Reshimo, a record, an impression such that will cover his transgression, and then he will certainly refrain from doing such a transgression in the future. Meaning, it's recorded for him as a correction.

Question (Turkiye 3): (06:10) What holy mindset must we be in the Ten to hate evil?

M. Laitman: What state of holiness we need to have in the Ten in order to what? Hate the evil. We need to be connected to the extent that we work against this separation, we identify the separation so it won't happen, we look after it, and then to the extent that we're in it, we hate the evil, we hate the forces of separation, and the main thing is that we begin to understand that we cannot exist in this way. Rather, we have to go from hate to love, we have to get to love of people, meaning from love of friends to love of the Creator between us, in our center. Works out that in this way we protect ourselves from the evil. Of course, each time more and more of this bad will be revealed, as it's written in the Zohar that the friends who wrote the Zohar wanted to kill one another, the evil is revealed to such an extent, but each time you stand guard, you organize yourself more and more so that we don't let ourselves remain under the influence of the bad. Rather, each time only to connect to the good. That’s why each and every moment a person has to stop himself and check, where am I? Am I in the good or in the bad? What's happening? And so on and so forth, and each time we need to yearn for the good, the direction of the Creator. Our work has to be on one point, I now wish to give Him contentment or to myself? Seemingly to myself, but it's actually to my ego. Either here or there; you can't be in the middle.

Question (ITA 4): (09:30) Why is investing my strength into the group enables me to come out of my ego? And how can I know that loving the friends really means bringing contentment to the Creator?

M. Laitman: Just to love the friends, by that you're not giving contentment to the Creator. There are many such societies or different groups that engage in love. But if you change your direction instead of to yourself to the Creator, then you understand that in order to maintain that direction, stay the course, you need a society. Because without it, you won't be able to be in it even a single moment. And the society around you, for it to influence the other, and when you hold each other up, you'll be forced to work on the small ego that exists in each one, and the others, and everyone together. When you are fighting against your ego in a circle, in a group, then from that, you'll be able to bestow to the Creator. This is how we need to work.

Student: In the moments where, according to the article, we understand that our evil inclination increases more and more. Is the ability to conduct the evil inclination is it a matter of my abilities, or I should let the group manage my evil inclination?

M. Laitman: No, each one is responsible for managing his personal evil inclination, and everyone has to connect in order to build a certain building, structure, that we construct from hate for the individual evil towards hate for the group evil. By that, we establish a spiritual Partzuf and its foundation, and you find the will to receive, the egoistic will to receive, we appreciate everyone, and we connect these desires in order to bestow, or at least in restriction between them. And above that, we are building a part from which we can bestow to the Creator, meaning the Sof of the Partzuf, and on it the Toch of the Partzuf, and then the Rosh of the Partzuf.

Question (Tel Aviv 4): (13:06) If I see hatred on the streets or even antisemitism, is that something I need to…?

M. Laitman: It has nothing to do with the topic of the article. We are talking about how we rise above the hate, from love for himself to love of the Creator. And by this work, we push away all the problems, all the troubles, all the haters. That's it. You need to read a lot. You lack material.

Question (Turkiye 4): (14:08) In the article, it says the primary work is not in the actual evil but in the measure of love and the measure of hate. I couldn't understand: what can I add to myself from the measurement of evil?

M. Laitman: The moment you begin to aim yourself toward the friends and through them to the Creator, you will discover each time additional evil, additional ego, and that's a problem you have to deal with. You have to learn it.

Student: But the article says: measurement of the hate, of the evil. So the evil reveals, and you have to think about it, you have to measure it. I am asking this because you always tell me not to get into feeling. Separate yourself from your ego and don't get into feeling.

M. Laitman: You can't do it. You cannot measure the evil and measure the good. We have no vessels for it. This is later, when you have a Partzuf with a certain coarseness, zero, one, two, three, four, five, and we'll be able to measure where we are in this state compared to the next state. It's not for now. For the time being, we are learning about how to overcome the evil, our ego, in order to perform the first spiritual action.

Student: You shall be like God who knows good and evil.

M. Laitman: We do come to the degree of the Creator, and we do include in it both the good and the evil. The evil is in the foundation of the spiritual Partzuf. Don't think, a snake, just like we see here, the evil is not disqualified, it has to be here, it has to participate in each and every spiritual action, or the action cannot be carried out. Knowing both the good and the bad, it says, “And you shall be as God, knowing good and bad.” Knowing good and bad does not mean to know with your intellect; it means to connect with it. As it says, “Adam knew Eve,” this is connection. Without the evil, we won't be able to do the work, and the coupling and striking, and all those things. Think about it. It will become clearer soon.

Question (ITA 3): (18:10) What is the reason for which hating the evil is insufficient in order to love the friends?

M. Laitman: Those are two opposite things. I hate the evil, but where is the love? The love has to be opposite from the hate. The hate was given to us so that on top of the hate, above the hate, with our own strength, our own effort, as we come closer to each other against the repulsion, we'll connect, and we'll build a spiritual Partzuf. Partzuf of love, this act of love. Hate alone is not enough for us. We need to try to connect against the evil, against the hate, and aim ourselves at connection all the way to love, and from it, from love of the created beings, love of people, to love of the Creator. Only in this way.

Question (Zafon 2): (20:07) How to escape from the confusions of good and bad?

M. Laitman: To work, to work from morning till evening, and ask myself for the sake of whom am I doing anything in life? Each and everything.

Student: How to overcome the fact that it changes almost every moment?

M. Laitman: That's why it changes every moment, so every moment you'll be able to do the scrutiny and make a decision. That's the direction towards which you are working.

Question (KabU 3): (20:58) Is there not a danger, wanting to please the Creator, by hoping for a return, for a personal reward? How to avoid the corrupting of the will of bestowal?

M. Laitman: For the time being, you're working in this way. You aim yourself at the Creator, you wish to give Him contentment, and you wish to be paid for it. He will pay you, reward you. And there's nothing to do here. For the time being, this is our degree. But the fact that you are thinking in the direction of the Creator, and through the friends, maybe now you'll understand why there are others here between you and the Creator, and this group. So, if you're working in the group, the group helps you to gradually get rid of your ego, that you will belong to them, and they will belong to you. And in this way, you gradually come out of yourself, and you connect with them together. The upper light shines on you, like that, and it changes your nature. If not for the group, and the Creator does it on purpose when He broke the vessel, if the Creator didn't break the vessel, we would not be able, Him and I would never be able to reach equivalence of form. I would always work in order to receive, because there's a group along the way. I don't like them, I hate them, I reject them, repel them, I wish to kill them, whatever you want. Everything exists in my negative attitude towards them, but in order to attain the Creator, I have to connect to them positively. What can I do? So it turns out that I must reach them, I must come to them with connection. That's why it says, “from love of the created beings, to love of the Creator.” And here we begin to understand why everything was created in this way, in this circle, where everything is interconnected. I must be connected to the friends, the friends must be connected to me, all of us together must be connected to the Creator, the Creator is connected to all of us, and through all of us to each and everyone. And there's no other way. Otherwise, we would have remained in evil inclination. Even when we bestow to the Creator, we would bestow for our own sake. But to begin to bestow to the Creator even from the fact that subconsciously it's certain, we're thinking of ourselves, it's still worth it, it's worth it. And then in this way. we come pressed by coercion and then by desire. For the time being, we nevertheless draw the surrounding light over us, not the inner light, but surrounding, because we are not in equivalence of form with the light. But our actions, at least according to the actions, we make these acts of bestowal although our heart is full of intentions to receive, to enjoy those things. But in this way, we come closer, we invite not the inner light into our group but the surrounding light, because our intentions are still in this way, to ourselves. But from Lo Lishma, we come to Lishma. We are going through very serious states together. It's worthwhile to keep them, to be in them.

Question (Tel Aviv 3): (26:02) Sometimes the Creator sends evil to the person through the others, and it comes back again and again, and it seems like the others need to be corrected and not me. Is there such a state?

M. Laitman: We can't quite scrutinize these things, what actions the Creator does directly. He brings it down on me directly, which things He's bringing down on the friends so that I will also be part of the correction of these virtues, these qualities, but it will be clarified during the work.

Question (PT 31): (26:55) How do you reach a state where the whole Ten identifies the evil together?

M. Laitman: When you're connected together, you'll begin to see it. You'll begin to see that you are as one man, in one heart, in one action, to the one Creator who relates to you, and this way we’ll begin to cross yourselves towards one focal point, and you'll discover yourself in this direct attitude towards the Creator.

Student: And how does the Ten respond with hatred to phenomena that are against the greatness?

M. Laitman: The hate must be equal. Meaning, not just hate; rather, we need to understand how and why and to what extent, and how do we come to it? Through the scrutiny. Through the scrutiny, when each time we try to come out from in order to receive, and we discover that we are in it in order to receive, and we have to know that a transgression invokes another transgression, and that's how we advance.

Question (Moscow 6): (28:44) How to depict to myself the intention towards the Creator? What exactly do I depict?

M. Laitman: Whatever we do, we wish to give contentment to the Creator by that. Or you may ask it differently. This action that I'm now doing, do I love the Creator more than myself or not? And to think about it each time. So, lament that you're not, or rejoice that you are, or you correctly measure those states, or incorrectly. The important thing is to be in these two directions.

Question (Focus Group): (29:40) We see a couple of times the matter of regret being mentioned here. Is it something we should engage in, or just aim for the Creator and whatever happens, happens?

M. Laitman: No, regret. We'll talk about it. We're going to have to re-read this article a few more times in the future. But we'll talk about it then. Regret. First, we need experience. Let's check where we are in the middle of the day, in all kinds of actions towards ourselves or towards the Creator. Let's sort these things out, and then we'll be able to form a decision, and an opinion of everyone and of the group together. Then we can talk about regret, remorse.

Question (PT 19): (30:43) I understand that according to what we learned, the evil is a positive thing. According to what we learned so far, I hear as though the evil is a positive?

M. Laitman: The Creator created nothing other than bad, evil. Because He is good and He must have needed the bad, the evil, so they would recognize Him and benefit from Him. So he needs the bad. That's why the bad does not disappear. It has to be there as a foundation for each and every Partzuf. The bad must be the foundation of creation, or creation will not be able to exist, because creation, means that it's outside of the degree. If we have something other than the Creator, then you have the Creator. Otherwise, you won't have the Creator. Because the Creator, it means “come and see,” when you climb towards this feeling, from the bad.

Student: He writes here that if he has hatred towards the evil, because transgression follows transgression. So, this is part of creation? I have to achieve this hatred?

M. Laitman: Yes, we need to hate the bad, but we can't erase it. We're not erasing it. We simply hate it, and to that extent we rise above the bad and we build the Partzuf above the bad. The bad, the ego, all those things remain below the Partzuf, the bottom of the Partzuf.

Question (PT 35): (32:45) To receive for ourselves from the greatness of the Creator between us, is that called evil as well? Should we hate or love that state, and how to direct ourselves forward from here?

M. Laitman: We must first come to, as I said today, we must first catch ourselves, which direction are we facing: our own benefit or the benefit of the Creator? Let's do it first. Let's check ourselves during the day as many times as possible, especially when we decide on something. We make a decision for whose benefit are we doing it? We've heard about it so much, we read about it, let's from this moment on, each and every Ten, we should hold each and every friend in the Ten in the scrutiny. For whose benefit am I doing what I'm doing? From the smallest things to the greatest things. Each one and everyone together.

Question (PT 29): (34:10) When I think about changing my intention, I'm thinking about myself, or the Creator, or it depends on the intention?

M. Laitman: Yes, it depends on your intention.

Question (Kyiv 1): (34:37) You said that in this work of hating the evil, that's on the one hand. On the other hand, in the work of the Creator, we go through the construction of the Partzuf.

M. Laitman: No, no, no, don't jump ahead. I don't like those things. Ask according to where we are right now. That's it. You have to walk with everyone.

Question (W German): (35:15) The concept of hatred towards the evil, should it be felt like hatred in our world, or is it a unique spiritual feeling?

M. Laitman: We are starting with hate and love as we know it, as we understand it. And we don't need to create a certain fantasy out of it. But the way we are used to it from our relationships, that's how we should work with it.

Question (Kaliningrad): (35:53) How can the Creator's light be perceived as sometimes as good and sometimes as bad? The light's not changing, right?

M. Laitman: The light doesn't change; our vessels change. Hence, in our vessels, we discover it as either good or bad.

Question (MAK Israel): (36:11) The hatred towards the evil, the will to receive for itself. Is this the Masach, or is it the force of resistance?

M. Laitman: Hate for the evil, it's neither this, neither that, but in the future, it will be restriction, screen, and reflected light.

Question (PT 38): (36:34) How can there be a group evil? Is not the whole evil within me?

M. Laitman: Yes, but nevertheless, we ascribe it to a person, because he doesn't feel the group. So, it's good if he will at least see himself in this way.

Question (USA 3): (37:03) What is my personal ego that needs to be corrected? Can you give me a practical example from our life?

M. Laitman: Our daily lives are the hatred between us, and if not hatred, then lack of connection between us, or indifference between us. This is the evil we have to correct. And if we don't correct it, it's a waste of time sitting here and listening to what we're saying. You have to understand that either it works or it doesn't work; either I take it seriously or not. It has to be in me. I write it down with huge bold letters on the wall, that I have no choice, I have to come to love others. Love of others for me right now is the love of my friends in the group. You can't get away from it, because that's the vessel in which we scrutinize how far or close we are to the Creator. Otherwise, we will veer off, we will be confused in all those things of hatred and love. Even in our world, we are confused by it, much less in spirituality.

Question (Darom): (38:38) Can we ask the Ten for thoughts to help come out of thoughts of myself, or is it my inner work? And if we can ask, so what would be the answer from the Ten?

M. Laitman: We don't want to stay within ourselves, to poke within ourselves and be confused by all our thoughts and desires of each of us. We have to rise above all of our inner trash and direct ourselves toward the friends and toward the Creator, or at least directly toward the Creator. In the meantime, toward the friends, it's difficult for me, so toward the Creator. For whom am I doing it? And for whose sake am I doing it? Anything, whatever it is. For whose sake am I doing it? For my own sake or for the sake of the Creator? This has to be the question of scrutiny every moment before me.

Question (KabU 2): (40:18) Do we first recognize the evil in the friends or in ourselves?

M. Laitman: To the extent that we see bad in others, by this, we have to find the roots of this bad in us, because there is no other. It's how the Creator presents himself through thousands of forms, so that we will know ourselves, the bad in us, and we'll hate it, this bad. And to the extent that we hate the bad in us, we will come to love the Creator who is outside of us.
