Part 1: Baal HaSulam. Shamati 66. Concerning the Giving of the Torah – 1

Reader: Hello, friends. We will be reading from the writings of Baal HaSulam, in Hebrew page 580, Shamati 66, Concerning the Giving of the Torah – 1. A few announcements before we begin the lesson: Friends who would like to ask a question, please put up your hand and keep it up until you receive their permission to speak. In the Arvut system, please put up a question mark. Please be careful to ask shortly and only about the topic of the lesson in order not to disturb during the lesson. Anyone who comes out of the hall and then comes back is asked to follow the guidance of the ushers and sit in the designated places. During the song, if there will be a song in the middle of the lesson, you'll be able to go back to your regular place with the Ten. Please make sure that your phones are in a silent state. Soon, Rav will join us. So, let's take that silent workshop we had and make it into an active workshop. Let's ask the Creator to be rewarded with the reception of the Torah. Let's now ask in the Ten to be rewarded with the reception of the Torah. Let's go ahead.

Workshop: (not transcribed)

Reader: Okay, friends, we will start our lesson. We are on the holiday of Shavuot. We will read from Shamati 66, Concerning the Giving of the Torah.

Reading: (04:21) Shamati 66. Concerning the Giving of the Torah – 1

I heard during a meal on the eve of Shavuot [Feast of Weeks], 1948.

The matter of the giving of the Torah that occurred on Mount Sinai does not mean that the Torah was given once and then the giving stopped. Rather, there is no absence in spirituality, since spirituality is an eternal matter, unending. But since, from the perspective of the Giver, we are unfit to receive the Torah, we say that the cessation is by the upper one.

However, then, at the foot of Mount Sinai, the whole of Israel were ready to receive the Torah, as it is written, “And the people camped at the bottom of the mount, as one man in one heart.” At that time, the public was prepared; they had but one intention, which is a single thought about the reception of the Torah.

However, there are no changes from the perspective of the Giver—He always gives, as it is written in the name of the Baal Shem Tov that each day one must hear the ten commandments on Mount Sinai.

The Torah is called the “potion of life” and the “potion of death.” We must understand how two opposites can be said about a single subject.

We must know that we cannot attain any reality as it is in itself. Rather, we attain everything only according to our sensations. And reality, as it is in itself, is of no interest to us at all. Hence, we do not attain the Torah as it is in itself; we attain only our sensations. Thus, all of our impressions follow only our sensations.

Therefore, when a person learns Torah, and the Torah removes him from the love of the Creator, this Torah is certainly considered the “potion of death.” Conversely, if this Torah that he is learning brings him closer to the love of the Creator, it is certainly considered the “potion of life.”

But the Torah itself, the existence of the Torah in and of itself, without consideration of the lower one who must attain it, is considered “a light without a Kli [vessel],” where there is no attainment whatsoever. Hence, when we speak of the Torah, it refers to the sensations that a person receives from the Torah, and only they determine the reality for the creatures.

When one works for oneself, it is called Lo Lishma [not for Her sake]. But from Lo Lishma we come to Lishma [for Her sake]. Hence, if one has not yet been rewarded with the reception of the Torah, he hopes to be rewarded with the reception of the Torah in the following year. But when one has been awarded the wholeness of Lishma, he has nothing more to do in this world, since he has already corrected everything to be in the wholeness of Lishma.

For this reason, each and every year there is the time of reception of the Torah since that time is ready for an awakening from below. This is because it is the awakening of the time when the light of the giving of the Torah was revealed in the lower ones. Hence, there is an awakening from above, which gives strength to the lower ones to be able to perform the qualifying act to receive the Torah, as then, when they were ready to receive the Torah.

Therefore, if one marches on a path where the Lo Lishma brings him the Lishma, then he is marching on the path of truth. One should hope that he will eventually be rewarded with achieving Lishma and with the reception of the Torah.

Yet, caution is required to constantly keep the goal before his eyes or he will march on an opposite line, since the root of the body is reception for itself. Thus, it always draws to its root, which is the aim to receive, the opposite of the Torah, called “the tree of life.” This is why the body considers the Torah the “potion of death.”

The qualifying act to receive the Torah is then when they were ready to receive the Torah. Therefore, if one marches on a path where the Lo Lishma brings him the Lishma, then he is marching on the path of truth. One should hope that he will eventually be rewarded with achieving Lishma and be rewarded with the reception of the Torah.

Yet, caution is required to constantly keep the goal before he dies, otherwise he will march on an opposite line. Since the root of the body is reception for itself, thus it always draws to its root, which is specifically the aim to receive, the opposite of the Torah, called the Tree of Life. This is why the body considers the Torah the potion of death.

M. Laitman: That's what we have from Rabash, from all the articles, all the things he said with respect to Shavuot. Questions?

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (11:38) He writes here, therefore when a person learns Torah and the Torah removes him from the love of the Creator, certainly this Torah is considered the potion of death. Conversely, if this Torah that he is learning brings him closer to the love of the Creator, it is certainly considered the potion of life. What does it mean the Torah that removes one, pushes him away from the love of the Creator? How do we measure it? And what is it that brings him closer to the love of the Creator?

M. Laitman: I suppose that the person measures himself.

Student: How? According to which measurement?

M. Laitman: The person himself learns the Torah, and he feels that the more he studies, it either brings him closer to the Creator or removes him from the Creator.

Student: The continuation of it, at the end of the article he writes that the Torah is considered for the body as the potion of death.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: This means that a person who studies Torah has to go through both states; how the light first puts to death the will to receive, that's the potion of death, if I understand correctly?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: And the potion of life, when it gives him the desire and the need to bestow, to get closer to the quality of bestowal?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (13:09) What does it mean to learn Torah?

M. Laitman: To learn Torah means to read and to study everything that Kabbalists wrote about the spread of the Torah in the people of Israel.

Student: What is this action that we perform that brings us closer to the determination that it is the potion of life, so we look at it as the potion of life?

M. Laitman: If we determine and feel that the study of the Torah, observing the Torah, brings us closer to the Creator, then it's called the Torah of life; and if to the contrary, God forbid – then it's called the Torah of death.

Student: But as you answered to the friend, he writes that the potion of death is to the will to receive. So, that's also correct, meaning to discover the potion of death, that it puts to death the will to receive.

M. Laitman: Yes?

Student: So, what do we have to do? What does it mean, the Torah, by which we will discover the potion of life, that it will lead us ahead to receive the Torah?

M. Laitman: That the more we study, the more we have an attraction towards and an understanding of what the Torah needs to do with us, how to connect, how to connect together. And, thus, ultimately, we achieve that connection, and in that connection, the Creator is revealed.

Student: What is in the Torah that connects us?

M. Laitman: A power, there's nothing more to say, power. If we want to gain the power of the Torah, the power that's within the Torah, then it works on us. And it brings all those who study closer together and that's how we should accept it. The Torah which brings us closer, and the Torah which creates distance, yes, as we call it, Panim and Achoraim, front and back, or anterior and posterior.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (16:42) I would like to ask about the connection between time and opportunity. Here, he describes a state where the people of Israel were ready, and they received the Torah. And therefore, this time is a time that is qualified every year to receive the Torah at that time. We know that everything follows the preparation, if we prepare, we'll receive it. It will be at a different time, not now, necessarily.

M. Laitman: Yes?

Student: So, what is this occasion that happens in history, and it determines some special opportunity? What is the connection between this and that?

M. Laitman: When something happens to us – some event – and in that event, we connect together, we come closer together, in essence, it indicates that action, that time that we go through. And then, of course, we're glad we get closer together, and we advance.

Student: The question is, we receive the Torah when we're truly ready to receive it.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: And it could be in the Congress a week ago, or a week later, or now. What now, specifically, is an opportunity? And what's the relation between the fact, how is it connected to the fact that it happened so many years ago?

M. Laitman: Since it happened on the same day as today – but many years ago – today, we therefore celebrate the way the Creator related to us then, which is the giving of the Torah.

Student: From the side of the Creator, He always wants to give. Apparently, there was some readiness from the people of Israel so that they received the Torah at that time.

M. Laitman: Yes?

Student: So, in other words, how can we contribute to the process? What can we do even more today than on an ordinary day?

M. Laitman: Today, we need to try to be in a state where we are ready to receive the Torah from the heavens and not to part from it, to receive it and accept all its conditions. That's what we need to do today.

Student: What does it mean, ready to receive the Torah from the heavens?

M. Laitman: Ready to receive the Torah from the upper force, from the upper authority. He passes the Torah on to us, and makes sure we receive it in the right way, and that's it.

Student: Because what is it that we need from the Torah? Why do we want to receive it?

M. Laitman: We need the Torah only in order to correct ourselves. And so, as we come closer together, closer to each other, and pray to the Creator to bring us closer together. With that, we get closer to the Creator, and we come closer together, ourselves, and we come to understand what is demanded of us, what is required of us. And so, we execute the Torah.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (21:32) In the second paragraph, he writes: However, then, at the foot of Mount Sinai, the whole of Israel were ready to receive the Torah, as it is written, “And the people camped at the bottom of the mount, as one man in one heart.”  What is this condition, that the whole of Israel are under the Mount of Sinai, a mountain of hatred, under this feeling of separation? Why is the Torah received, specifically, following such a massive feeling of separation?

M. Laitman: Connection between the people of Israel, within the people of Israel, you could say it's an eternal connection. But for us to receive it the right way, well, there are a few conditions: being as one man in one heart, taking care of the whole of Israel, the collective of Israel. And then, if we orient ourselves that way, then we are facing in the same direction as the Creator. He wants to bestow upon us, and that's how we advance.

Student: The whole of Israel, we learn that this means those whose heart desires the Creator?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: Yes, okay, so those whose heart desires the Creator, and we see them on the screens, and here also – many people who truly demand the Creator on this special holiday. So, is it possible, let's say, there are those among us who see a high mountain; maybe there are parts who don't even see a mountain – they don't see Pharaoh, they don't see separation, they only feel the joy of connection – there are all kinds of different parts in the nation. So, can we now, in the study between us, ask for the reception of the Torah, even though there is no feeling of this high mountain? Maybe I'll make the question more precise: Do we need to discover the entire mountain in full to ask for the Torah or can we do it in parts?

M. Laitman: You can do it in parts.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (24:52) What is the inner work of the person during the reception of the Torah?

M. Laitman: He organizes his vessels, his desires, such that they're all connected and directed towards the reception of the light of Torah within his vessels.

Student: What does it mean to organize or arrange his vessels?

M. Laitman: He needs to check and see if all his desires are aimed towards the reception of the upper force, the upper light. And when he receives the upper light, the upper force, how does he then extend it?

Student: It says here that we don't attain the Torah in and of itself, we only attain our sensations. So, it's all only according to our sensation. What is the difference between the sensation, the feeling of the Torah and the impression from the Torah in inner work?

M. Laitman: We gradually, slowly begin to make the distinctions between all the different words, different definitions, and then we change a little.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (26:49) In order for the Creator to give the Torah, what has to be from below – from the side of the created beings – in order for the Creator to give us the Torah?

M. Laitman: For there to be a desire below, this inclination to receive the light of the Torah.

Student: The Torah was given already, or does it happen simultaneously, the desire and the giving?

M. Laitman: It was already given, and the vessels were arranged, organized according to the requirements of the Torah. And after that, they were distanced.

Student: What does it mean that the Torah was given, this force? It's in the air, it exists between us now, that giving of the Torah?

M. Laitman: No, the Torah was given in a special time to a certain special group of people, and they need to use it correctly. And if they don't use it correctly, then it all goes away, returns back to the root.

Student: For us, now, we receive the Torah or we need a vessel in order to receive the Torah?

M. Laitman: We need a vessel.

Student: So, what is this vessel that we need to have, so that we can receive the Torah?

M. Laitman: Desire.

Student: What is the desire for Torah?

M. Laitman: Desire for the Torah, means a desire to live with such powers, such forces, that hold us together. With such forces that sustain us, organize us, in terms of the connection between us also, and that's how we advance.

Student: What does the Torah add to us that we don't have now?

M. Laitman: The Torah adds the law of connection.

Student: It applies the connection on us, or it necessitates us to, obligates us to connect.

M. Laitman: It actualizes, implements the connection.

Student: So, the desire for Torah, if you can make it more precise: What exactly should we want so that the Torah will dress in us?

M. Laitman: We need to be connected amongst ourselves, such that each one will feel that he is in the center of the connection and he sustains, maintains the center of the connection.

Student: So, the desire for Torah is a personal desire of each one? Or is it a desire that the Ten builds or the society builds?

M. Laitman: It's the desire of the society, of the group. From the study, from coming closer to each other, they reach a desire, such a desire where the main thing, the most important thing for them is to be as one man in one heart.

Student: Does this desire for the Torah exist in us? When you look at us, do you feel it?

M. Laitman: Not yet.

Student: Not yet, but we're close. So, can you give us this one effort that each one of us needs to make so that we start weaving the desire for the Torah between us?

M. Laitman: Each one thinks, prays, makes an effort for everyone; and then each one is incorporated with everyone else, so to speak, in a single desire, in a single center. And that's the only thing he lacks.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (33:49) The potion of death for the body and the distancing from the love of the Creator – the yearning and the separation between these two things. And the need for the reception of the Torah every day, can this help us to feel it?

M. Laitman: Something in that direction, yes.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (34:56) Continuing in that line of questions: There is a certain state and everyone wants to emerge from that state. There's a certain desire to transition to something different, and it's not clear what exactly that is. You can say many words, but we don't have the feeling of where exactly we want to go. Many, many people sit here, and each one has his own certain idea of what the Creator is, what the Torah is, what love is. And each one with his own the fantasy of his will to receive, yes?

M. Laitman: Yes, yes.

Student: And as you mentioned, we don't yet have this clarified desire to reach the goal. So, the friend tried to somehow derive it. So maybe in two, three words, a sentence which will guide us, direct us all towards that goal, make it clear to us, so it's even clear to the will to receive. If you could, please.

M. Laitman: Can anyone make what a friend wanted to ask more precise?

Reader: (36:44) He says that each one here imagines to himself some goal.

M. Laitman: Well, this is how.

Student: What is our common goal? Perhaps you can guide us to it precisely, so that we all have the same depiction, the same intention, the same destination. Perhaps, you can summarize it in a few sentences and guide us.

M. Laitman: Okay, sure.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (37:28) Expecting salvation, that's something we need to build artificially between us all the time? Or is it something which will just come from within, from the stomach?

M. Laitman: It can come from your belly but, rather bit by bit, it becomes more and more clear to us until we truly feel and understand that this is what we need.

Student: And it comes through scrutiny and constant work in the Ten?

M. Laitman: That, too, yes.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (38:27) So, we have one verse that says that, as their faces are different, so their opinions differ, and so on.

M. Laitman: Yes?

Student: And only if you ask the upper force, who is one, He can unify our desires.

M. Laitman: Yes?

Student: So, the question is then: He gives us all the same desire for Him, so from these different faces, different opinions, as the friend defined it, different delusions. How do we make certain we all turn to that one force, and not different imaginations, delusions?

M. Laitman: How else can it be?

Student: Otherwise, it's each one imagining something in his own perception of reality, and there's never any true unity.

M. Laitman: That's right, correct.

Student: So, the question is, what is that plea to that single force to receive the Torah, or for any other purpose?

M. Laitman: So, it's important that we will scrutinize what exactly should be our demand, and how do we turn with it? And how do we direct it, the request? Yes, this is very important, this is the scrutiny that we need to make.

Student: Is it the individual scrutiny of each one?

M. Laitman: It is a scrutiny that each one of us, and all of us together, must do.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (40:45) How to cause the Creator to bless the friends with readiness for the Torah?

M. Laitman: What's the problem?

Student: I heard from you that we are close, close to meeting the conditions that the Creator set. So, how to use our prayer that we will cross this short distance?

M. Laitman: Yes, in order to advance towards the Creator, how to do it? We have how to do it, we need to study, we need to know why we come to study. How can our force be more than what we had before, when we are constantly concerned about connection? And this is how we will advance.

Student: Yes, we will always advance, but there is still work to do after receiving the Torah, right? Or if someone receives the Torah, it's the Torah, Lishma, and then there is no work to do in this world or something of the sort?

M. Laitman: We need to try to receive the Torah, and from our study together of the Torah, and what we receive from the Creator. If we will study that, then it turns out that we can get closer to each other, so much so that we will feel how much we bestow to each other. And how much we all reach one goal, all of us, together, and we will feel the Creator, that He is answering all of us, and why He does so.

Student: From this point on, as we advance, we get closer and closer to feeling that between us?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: From the article, Baal HaSulam wrote that at every moment there is an opportunity to receive the Torah. But there is also this special opportunity that the Creator arranged in this specific day, this specific holiday. So, how to take advantage of the opportunity, this opportunity to receive this light, in order to close the distance that remains?

M. Laitman: Yes, today we have an opportunity to bridge the distance, shorten the distance between us and the Creator.

Student: Yes, but we want to do that in the maximum way.

M. Laitman: That's clear. Yes, the question is clear, let's see if anyone can answer it?

Answer (Petah Tikva Center): (46:17) Maybe this is a kind of answer: each will receive is a record from the departure of the light, in which we receive the letters of the Torah. Is that a feeling of fulfillment? Or a new emptiness, when coming close to the Creator?

M. Laitman: I think that it is emptiness that pressures the person and moves him towards the Creator.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (47:28) I heard that if you don't use the Torah correctly, then everything goes away, vanishes, rises back to its root. So, what is that situation where you don't use the Torah correctly?

M. Laitman: Not for our correction, by which we become similar to the Creator.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (47:59) This desire you discussed with the friend, is that the desire for change? Where we truly want to change?

M. Laitman: When did we talk about it?

Student: The desire. You said that in order to receive the Torah, we lack the desire. Is that desire the desire for change, the agreement, the willingness to change?

M. Laitman: Of course.

Student: Is that our participation?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: And what we lack is the faith that this change, this transformation, is for our benefit?

M. Laitman: I don't think that's the right question. Because it comes to us from the Creator, this is how it is revealed in our vessels.

Student: Okay, now to continue the discussion that just took place. A baby looks at the parents, he sees what they do, and he copies their actions. And then he sees with his eyes, and he copies. Who should we copy, emulate?

M. Laitman: We should emulate the Creator.

Student: So, there are times when I'm sensitive to every single leaf blowing in the wind, but many times I'm not. So, how can we always see the Creator's actions, what kind of glasses do we need?

M. Laitman: We can learn very quickly from the Creator, from the spiritual forces.

Student: So, it's not using the corporeal eyes as babies do, it's something different. It's from the heart. That's where the eyes are?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: In the Congress, you told me that I need to read more articles. I need to incorporate more of the writings, and so I started doing that. Now, the feeling is, I don't know if it's true, but when I read, especially together with friends, I feel that that's the example I need to receive. But it's not like a character that I see acting, walking, it's just a feeling. It's something we see through our eyes and the heart.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (50:58) It's written that there is an awakening from above, which gives power to the lower ones to be able to qualify themselves for the reception of the Torah. So, how can we qualify ourselves, right now, what should we do right now to take advantage of this time?

M. Laitman: Connection.

Student: That we do all the time, is there anything special that we need to do, today?

M. Laitman: If you're doing it all the time, then I don't see that something comes out of your actions.

Student: What is inaccurate about our actions?

M. Laitman: It's not that it's inaccurate, but the intention.

Student: The intention isn't in the right direction?

M. Laitman: Well, no.

Student: What should the intention be?

M. Laitman: We're not going to start a discussion now – it's not a lesson at school.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (52:16) I heard you say that there are several conditions for receiving the Torah. Being, as one man in one heart, and being the collective of Israel. But to get there, we need to receive the Torah, so the question is, what comes first?

M. Laitman: What comes first before the Torah?

Student: Yes.

M. Laitman: Before the reception of the Torah, I need to feel within me a deficiency to be in actions that are like the Creator. And to ask of Him, to ask of Him that He will show me what I'm doing wrong. And then, it will be clear to me how to correct myself, that is all.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (54:15) I feel that each one here has a strong, big desire to receive the Torah. But how can we, with what vessel can we collect all these little desires that each one has so, as to make it as one will, one desire, because without that it's impossible to receive the Torah.

M. Laitman: We need to always learn how to receive new desires from above, from the Creator. And combine them together and then it will be clear to us where we have to come with the solution, to which goal.

Student: What is the vessel into which we gather everything you just mentioned?

M. Laitman: A desire.

Student: It's the vessel of the desire of the world's Kli?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: And that's where we should direct all our desires?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (56:21) It's written that, they gathered and that they had one intention, one thought. And you told me that when they receive the Torah, when we receive the Torah, we work with our desires. Meaning, before receiving the Torah, we connect only in thought and desire, or rather, thought and intention?

M. Laitman: No, we cannot connect in the intention – in the thought.

Student: It's what it says here, that they had one intention and one thought, so how to understand that?

M. Laitman: Well, this is already an advancement, moving forward. That they feel how the Creator corrects them, arranges them. And how they come closer between them, gradually, into one body, one heart.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (58:05) We talk a lot about the reception of the Torah, what is that, what does it mean? This concept of the reception of the Torah?

M. Laitman: The reception of the Torah, on our side, is the preparation of the vessel so the upper light can correct it. Turn it and then all the created beings will receive, from this vessel, the form of their right intention.

Student: We have been studying how to receive the Torah, we've been learning that for a long, long time. So, what are the actions, can you even study, learn the Torah without performing any physical actions? Or perhaps with intention, is it possible to receive the Torah without any actions? We can sit here and study all day long, until tomorrow, each one can ask a question, and everyone can answer. Is it possible to receive the Torah without actions, just with your ego, or?

M. Laitman: What are the actions?

Student: Yes, I'm asking you what actions. What actions do I need to perform so that my study will be effective. So that I can actually receive the Torah and not just talk about it, all in theory, that's the question.

M. Laitman: We learn that through our actions in bringing the vessels closer to each other, by that we push ourselves towards connection. And eventually we expect the Creator to perform this action on us.

Student: Yes, what is that action? What is the execution of this connection that you keep mentioning? Can you define it, what is that connection?

M. Laitman: That we want to get closer between us, men, women. So, nevertheless, we are a bit confused. And so, it is desirable that we will carry out the connection between us and present that to the Creator. And out of that, we will receive help.

Student: Right, so a question, in summary: To draw the reforming light, all our work in essence is to draw the reforming light so it corrects us, as you just said. So, what is the most effective, even as we sit here and study together, what is the most effective way to make the Creator really hear us, so it's not a fake – singing out of tune? And how can we most effectively, in the most pointed way, draw the attention of creation so that we may receive the reforming light in the maximal way, the most efficient way? What is the condition?

M. Laitman: The condition is that we want it all to be in order to bestow.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:03:18) He writes the following: And he must hope to finally come to Lishma and be awarded with the reception of the Torah. What comes first, beginning the work in Lishma, or receiving the Torah?

M. Laitman: The beginning of the Torah.

Student: The person who receives the Torah needs to already be in Lishma?

M. Laitman: No.

Student: He needs to be in order to bestow?

M. Laitman: No.

Student: So, why does he write this? That he must hope that at long last he will be awarded with coming to Lishma, and awarded with the reception of the Torah. So, how can a person receive the Torah if he's not in the intention to bestow? He doesn't have the vessels of bestowal.

M. Laitman: He doesn't mean that.

Student: So, he receives the Torah from Lo Lishma?

M. Laitman: No, he can't.

Student: That's what I'm asking. When the people of Israel were at Mount Sinai, were they in Lo Lishma or in Lishma?

M. Laitman: No, in Lo Lishma. You were thinking correctly.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:05:03) When we sit here now, I feel that there are many people in the world who need hope all around us – from day to day, it becomes more harsh. And sometimes it feels like we're a valve, we're like a blockage for them, a cork. So, what can help each, what can help more? For each one to recognize the evil within himself or for us to want to bestow upon them? Which direction is better right now?

M. Laitman: It's more correct to perform acts of bestowal. And then it's good for one to measure which actions he should perform, which actions of bestowal and how to get closer to them.

Student: So, when we talk about actions of bestowal, does it need to be the desire to disseminate, to pass on to them everything we received, the truth, Torah? Is that bestow or is it more something between me and my friend in the Ten?

M. Laitman: Both.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:06:50) When a person feels that his intentions in the study are wrong, does he still receive the reforming light. Or is it better not to study that way, and to be in a state of prayer and avoid the Torah at that moment?

M. Laitman: Where is it written like that?

Student: It's written that the Torah, when Lo Lishma, it serves the vessels of reception as the potion of death.

M. Laitman: Yes?

Student: The question is, if I feel that the Torah I'm studying at a certain moment is serving the ego, is it better not to be in a state of Torah? Is it better to be in a state of prayer?

M. Laitman: Sometimes, yes.

Student: We say that the light in it reforms. So, if I study and I know that it's Lo Lishma, not for her sake, does the Torah still work on me?

M. Laitman: The Torah operates on us all the time, it's just that we need each time to see from all of our intentions which way are we pulling ourselves? Which way we want to advance.

Student: So, if I study and the intentions are incorrect, the bestowal can be incorrect.

M. Laitman: Yes, the influence can be incorrect, of course.

Reader: (01:08:34) There's some expectation in the air to receive something. We came here today to receive the Torah, bring it. Is that the right feeling, do we deserve something?

M. Laitman: If a person asks, why doesn't he deserve?

Student: I don't feel that the willingness to receive the Torah depends on me. The Creator will give, He'll give – He won't give, He won't give, and we'll continue this way.

M. Laitman: This means that without being precise about the answer of where I am, right?

Student: Yes.

M. Laitman: It's true.

Student: So, what, He gives the Torah, the Kli to receive the Torah.

M. Laitman: Yes?

Student: I feel like He gives that, too.

M. Laitman: Yes?

Student: The readiness for the vessel to receive the Torah is seemingly in my hands, it sounds like. But I feel like that's not in my strength either.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: So, what is under my forces here, it's all operating through Him?

M. Laitman: Apparently, only the request.

Student: The force of the request. Where does it stem from in a person?

M. Laitman: From the person's deficiency.

Student: What begets this in him?

M. Laitman: Is that the person will be rewarded with, let's say, the holiday of Shavuot, with some additional peaks.

Student: In what places does the request have a right to exist on its own because everything is given by the Creator. Where is the room for this request?

M. Laitman: The Creator doesn't just give like that, just like that, like you're saying it. The request is valid if one feels that he has to be in a request and he has to raise it to the Creator. Then the Creator gives him a place from which he raises his prayer.

Student: If only the request depends on a person and everything else the Creator does, where will the request come from?

M. Laitman: From the Creator?

Student: I don't understand, does the request depend on me or on the Creator?

M. Laitman: The request depends on you but you need to raise it towards the Creator.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:11:53) I think you gave us a very clear advice today, it all starts with the Ratzon for Torah [desire for Torah]. That we want to live with such forces that sustain us and organize us. So, it sounds to me that we need to make a decision: Do we want to let go of our own authority, and do we want to live only under the authority of the Creator? Is this true?

M. Laitman: Correct. That's called Lishma, very simple. And we are able to enter such a degree and support one another, and one the other, everyone to everyone, in order to receive the forces from the Creator and in this way rise. With them we can rise.

Student: Because it is also written in Torah that the Creator tells Israel, if you don't accept the Torah, it will be the place of burial for you. So, we don't have the feeling if we don't want and accept the Torah, it will be our death. So, this enters into a prayer – please, Creator, give us the Ratzon [the desire] that we want to only live under Your authority to give ourselves fully to You and Your Torah. That we bring You, Your life, into the world.

M. Laitman: Amen.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:14:57) What's bad in the place of our burial, for the desire to receive to die. What's bad about that?

M. Laitman: I don't know, but you see how he writes, he wants a person to always remain in spirits and soul that will be healthy. And that he can demand from the Creator, to demand forces, new discernments. That's it.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:16:19) About the prayer, the outbreak of the prayer when it emerges from a person, each and every one of us here, he can't just burst out of himself, we all tried, we prayed alone, silently. What will cause this eruption that is beyond a person's ability?

M. Laitman: Yes, that's truly beyond a person's abilities, he has no forces to exit himself. And to be accepted on a different level, yes? I agree with you.

Student: For many years, we are trying to reach that point of that prayer to come out like that. As a group, in the group now, how can we help one another so that each will have this eruption of prayer being born out of him?

M. Laitman: We need to awaken more the desire for the goal, to push ourselves to the goal. That it can be clear that you're very close to it.

Student: I'm sorry that I'm continuing, but in the group we give many examples – lots in dissemination, in the work in the Ten, in the family, in every place. We are really trying to awaken the importance of the goal; we're trying to revitalize this and make it alive between us. It doesn't come out, I simply, I also don't see that anyone is about to leave or anything. And we're all there, we're all in that point, and what will cause it to happen?

M. Laitman: We'll make it happen? To work in a way that every person will watch over his friend.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:20:28) Rabash writes that, the true prayer comes from the depth of the heart. In the depth of the heart, I always have a prayer for myself, the prayer for the friends is mostly from the mouth. How do we put the prayer for the friends into the depth of the heart?

M. Laitman: I don't know, that's something you need to pray for. Clear?

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:22:06) We know that to receive the Torah, we need to observe between us the condition of the Arvut. What can I give from my heart in order to succeed and keep this condition?

M. Laitman: Whatever my friend is lacking in order to reach Arvut and to advance from that with everyone.

Student: The Arvut condition is to give to my friends in the Ten, to give to all of Israel?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: Can I deliver a prayer?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Reader: We're getting close to the end, now, so we would like to ask you how you would summarize this holiday lesson. What we need to come out with?

M. Laitman: Very special lesson, I think that most of you agree with me. And we'll keep going? That's it, what else can I say?

Reader: Happy holiday.
