412. “And the animals ran back and forth,” meaning hidden lights are revealed, and the concealments in them stand and do not stand. Although they have been revealed, the concealments were not removed from them and are standing as before. At one time, the concealments are removed from them, at one time they shine, and at one time they do not shine. At one time, they shine in this color, and promptly, in another color. Now this name shines, and immediately, another name; there is no one who can withstand these lights.
413. At one time, the name HaVaYaH shines, for the light that rises in that name contains all the lights in wholeness, and promptly descends, and the light returns to shine in a different manner, and rises in the name Elokim. And promptly, the name El, and promptly the name Tzevaot [hosts], and promptly the name Shaddai, and likewise in all those names by which the Creator is called.
414. Because there is a hidden place from which the animals come out, and just as she comes out from the hidden spring where she was concealed, so does each one appear, and no one can withstand them. This is the meaning of a vessel of water and the sun, or on the wall, that at one time, the sun shines in the water in the vessel, and at one time she does not. Or on the wall, that at one time, the sun shines in that place of the wall, and at one time in another place.
This is so because the way of the illumination of the animals is according to their emergence from the three lines, and each line emerges with its own unique concealment. Their way is to appear one at a time in journeying: At one time, the right governs, the name El, at one time, the left governs, the name Elokim, and at one time, the middle line governs, the name HaVaYaH.
For this reason, with the governance of the right line, the name El is revealed, and the left line promptly descends and governs, and the name Elokim is revealed. Then the middle line descends, and the name HaVaYaH promptly governs, and so forth repeatedly. This is similar to the shining of the sun in a vessel of water, where at one time, it shines in this vessel of water, and another time in that vessel of water.
415. As they run and return, so the one who looks at them runs and returns in his heart and in his mind. The exception are the faithful prophets, who look from within the animals below, which concern the mirror that does not shine, Malchut, since those animals in Malchut were looking as if behind the wall. Thus far the image from those secrets of above, from the animals in ZA and from the animals in Malchut. Now the text speaks of the animals below Atzilut.
