The spiritual development of the creation (Malchut) progresses through several stages. The first stage is the spiritual conception, or Tzimtzum Aleph (First Restriction), when the creation suppresses its egoism, “submits” itself to the Upper Governance, and becomes fully subordinate to Bina, like a servant to its master. The state of the First Restriction operates throughout the two subsequent phases of spiritual development: the stages of “conception” and “nurturing”. By passing through these stages, the creation acquires the quality of bestowal. This level is called the “Katnut” (small state). By “absorbing” the qualities of bestowal, the creation establishes the condition described in the verse: “Mi bara Eleh?” – “Who created these?” The word “Mi” (Who) symbolizes the small state, the acquired qualities of bestowal, which are meant to create “Eleh” (these) - the great state, the corrected desires of Malchut. In other words, the development of creation transitions into the stage of “Gadlut” (greatness, adulthood), when Malchut no longer suppresses its egoism, but works with it altruistically, transforming the reception into bestowal. As a result of this sequential correction, the creation acquires the quality of the Creator, referred to as Elokim, that is, it becomes completely similar to the Creator.
