What Are Demons?

Kabbalist Dr. Michael Laitman and Oren Levi discuss demons following a situation where a young lady collapsed and died during an exorcism ceremony in the Negev. Her husband, the Bedouin Sheik, and the doctor participating in the ceremony were arrested. Exorcism is fairly common in the Arab and Muslim culture. During the ceremony they read excerpts from the Koran and apply a strong physical force to that person for the demon to leave. Here’s a loose transcript from the talk… Oren Levi: Do demons even exist? Kabbalist Dr. Michael Laitman: These are a person's inner forces acting as a detriment. Oren Levi: How can I see a demon? Dr. Laitman: You cannot. It is something that a person feels, an inner force in a person. It awakens. Just like how sometimes a person has a panic attack, or an outburst of joy. Oren Levi: I am not an expert, but I heard that in the Zohar there is a lot written about spirits, demons and angels. Dr. Laitman: These are different names of vessels, or inner forces in a person. You have positive forces and negative forces, and a person consists of all of them. A person needs to keep a balanced state. And from the balance that he achieves, to direct himself toward the meaning of life—through love between people to the upper force—which is absolute love. This is what is meant by being balanced. Oren Levi: What is the formula? How do I quench some demon that drives me crazy? Dr. Laitman: You need to get a strong hug from the people around you. For them to take upon themselves the negative impression that you are experiencing. Oren Levi: So the solution is love? Hugs? Dr. Laitman: Yes, look how it is with a mom and her baby. Is there anything better than a hug? It cures everything.
