Part 1: KabU Retreat – The Creator Is in the Ten
Reader: Shalom, hello to all the friends in Israel and the world. Today’s lesson is a very special one, based on the KabU Retreat in Holland. It’s a Congress actually, a convention of students that eighty students went to physically, and many more on Zoom and the internet.
And maybe they will like to say a few words.
Student Attendee (00:40): Hello, friends. Hello, dear Rav. We’d like to get some awakening from what has become a very special place in the Netherlands. It’s become very special because first of all, from all over the world, points in the heart gathered to increase the connection between them with a very strong desire for the purpose of revealing Him not for themselves, but for the greater good, and this is truly felt in the heart. It fills the whole surroundings, the whole air with a kind of thickness and a shivering. We feel that it’s not only this retreat, but it’s actually the whole world Kli, whose this degree in front of Him only with one request. To bring the friends closer to each other in order to bring Him contentment. I will give the mike to my dear brother who will tell more what we are actually going to do.
Retreat Moderator: (02:03) Hello, Rav, and everyone in the world Kli. We have with us about eighty friends here in the hall and close to 100 friends on Zoom. We’re going to have this lesson on the topic of the Creator in the Ten. The reader is going to read for us an excerpt, and then we’re going to take questions from here. We’re going to alternate between questions from the hall and questions from Zoom. This is going to be the lesson. We have prepared a few really strong excerpts and really hope to keep that deficiency for Rav and sharing also with the world Kli.
Reading First Excerpt: (02:57) RABASH, Article No. 5 (1984), "What Does the Rule, 'Love Thy Friend as Thyself,' Give Us?"
The Zohar says about it: “Wherever there are ten, the Shechina [Divinity] dwells.” This means that in a place where there are ten men, there is a place for the dwelling of the Shechina.
M. Laitman: (04:34) First of all, I am welcoming you with a great blessing in my name and Bnei Baruch, Israel, as well. I will be very happy to be together with you and go over all these sources, mostly from Baal HaSulam and Rabash, and we will see to what extent they can be close and understood to us. So, we will repeat the first excerpt.
Re-reading First Excerpt: The Zohar says about it: “Wherever there are ten, the Shechina [Divinity] dwells.” This means that in a place where there are ten men, there is a place for the dwelling of the Shechina.
M. Laitman: (05:36) Meaning, if there are ten people together, and they speak, evoke and awaken the Creator, the Upper Light, to dwell amongst them, then they see that, yes, He will be between them and dwell there, and they can even reach a state of feeling Him. With certainty they are capable of sharing their inspiration and their heart with Him.
So, what is written in the Zohar? “Wherever there are ten, the Shechina [Divinity] dwells.” There are here hundreds of people in one place and, therefore, it is with certainty that the Creator will hear what’s taking place in our hearts, in our common heart, and we will be able to reach and come to raise up to Him our yearnings, our questions, and we will certainly also receive an answer.
Student Attendee from Holland: (07:05): A question from the ten. We are here and we are together with the friends. In our Ten we have lots of joy and feel lots of love between us. Is this attracting the light or is it also partially self-love?
M. Laitman: No, no. This certainly awakens the light. If many people will do so, then the Creator is certainly involved and corrects all our requests, all our souls, unites them and raises them unified towards Him. Meaning, with certainty it is clear that we are in contact and connected with the Upper Force, all of us together, and this is how we shall continue.
Student Attendee: (08:25) In order to progress we must all cross a very narrow bridge, How can each of us guarantee his friends in the Ten that the Creator will never let a single friend fall completely, or get lost along the way, and that each friend has a safe passage across the bridge.
M. Laitman: We are connected to one another together, and we unite between us and from that connection between us, we are as one, we raise our request to the Creator, and we want Him to absorb those requests, to hear our prayer and answer us, both emotionally and intellectually, through all our friends, through each and every one and all of us together, for us to truly feel that we have a connection with Him. Let’s hope that we will reach such a state in which we ask, pray, and demand from the Creator, we will also have a connection with Him and He will reply to us.
Student Attendee from Indiana: (10:31) Being here in the Netherlands with family and friends has led me to a feeling of love and bestowal. How do we get the Ten to be in faith above reason?
M. Laitman: It all depends only on the extent that the Ten is connected and raises their hearts to the Creator as one heart. Then with certainty, the Creator will hear them as one man who’s appealing to Him, and this is what their whole success depends upon. Meaning, before we address the Creator and raise our questions to Him, we have to be certain that we will all be connected in these questions, and then the Creator will hear us, for sure, and answer us.
Student Attendee Leo: (12:01) Thank you, to be here. I feel very excited and glad to be able to be here. The Creator is not a human figure, but also He is often depicted as a kind of human form. What is the truth?
M. Laitman: This is because a person cannot depict it any other way, to begin with, and it’s also written that you shall not have an alien god, meaning when you address the Creator you need to address with words that that you understand, with the qualities that you see and understand, and this is how we turn to Him. This is something that Kabbalists defined millennia ago. This attitude toward the Creator and this form of connection towards Him.
Therefore, when we turn to Him, we turn to Him in our language, as the Creator certainly understands everything, and more than that which we talk about, He understands our feelings and what’s going on in our hearts even though we don’t know what we’re feeling. It is all passed on to the Creator. That’s why we talk to Him in the language of people.
Student Attendee from United States: (14:28) There’s often a feeling of closeness to spirituality when inspired, but also at the same time, I’m aware of a great distance between where I am in spirituality. How best to use those times of feeling closeness to help in the preparatory stages of moving towards spirituality?
M. Laitman: In the books where we study, it is written how to come closer to the Creator. (Connection between Rav and student venue is lost.)
Reading Second Excerpt: (16:12) “Maor VaShemesh, Ekev.”
It is known that in every Ten there is Shechina [Divinity], and this is a complete level. In a complete level, there are head, hands, legs, and heels. It follows that when every person regards himself as nothing in society, then he regards himself as a heel compared to the society, while they are the head, the body, and the higher organs. When each one thinks of himself in this way, they make the gates of abundance and every lushness in the world open up to them.
M. Laitman: I can’t hear you.

Retreat Moderator: (20:48) I’ll repeat the question. There’s often a feeling of closeness to spirituality when inspired, but also at the same time, I’m aware of a great distance between where I am in spirituality. How best to use those times of feeling closeness to help in the preparatory stages of moving towards spirituality?
M. Laitman: In order to enter the spiritual system, for you to hear and also for you to be heard by whoever is in the spiritual world, you need to be connected to a Ten, to be connected maybe to a broader circle, a higher circle, and this is how you will raise all your discussions to a level that you can be with certainty, clear that the Creator and altogether the whole spiritual world hears you, and you will also receive from them the feedback, this is how it works.
Student on Zoom: (22:25) How to lower my ego volume to feel my friend’s desire?
M. Laitman: It’s a very big problem. Many people would like for that to happen that way, but for that, we need to labor, to exert, to sacrifice a lot of time, forces, great efforts, and then you will be able to see the extent in which these results of your efforts, how you become weaker, smaller. Then to the extent to which you feel that way, you can be rewarded with the Creator and all the rest of the Kabbalists from all the times begin to be closer in you, more sensing and feeling you, and you feel them. In such a way, that’s how we come closer.
W Student on Zoom: (24:01) First of all, dear Rav, thank you so much for being with us here today. My question is about prayer. Would you please teach us about prayer and how to best pray for one another?
M. Laitman: We need to try to be connected to one another, women’s groups, men’s groups. It is preferable for there to be ten. That’s the optimal measure, no more and no less, for there to be ten, but if it’s a little less, you work with it. As we connect, we should have this prayer, a prayer which is connected to the Creator that we all agree with. This is what we need Him to hear from us, and then we raise our prayer to Him with a good will from all our heart, from all of us. From all of us is called ‘from the ten.’ It is best for there to be in each group of ten, as we said, and this way we raise our common prayer to the Creator and we need to be certain that this prayer is what He will hear, and it is with certainty that it is what He will hear.
After a while, let’s say after a few days, a week, we can talk between us between these ten friends. What do we feel? Are we feeling a response from the Creator? Did He receive and accept our prayer, and whether we can already feel an answer from Him. What is He doing? This is how we need to connect to Him and to pass to Him our yearning, our prayer, our longing.
Student on Zoom: (27:06) Yesterday in one of our sessions, one of the instructors gave us really good advice about the imagination in helping us to understand that there is a correct way and an incorrect way to use the imagination. How should we correctly use our imagination towards the friends and the society in the work?
M. Laitman: We need our friends in order to connect with them, and from the group that we build between us, from us, for us to raise our longing to the Creator, from our entire connection of our hearts. This is actually our work, so we need to scrutinize what precisely do we want the Creator to hear from us. How we will connect between us. Each and every friend should be aimed toward that and connected to it, and this is how our request is raised upwards to exalted heights. That is actually everything. It is preferable for it to be from this state of togetherness, for it to be from our emotions, from our hearts, as connected as much as possible to everyone. This is how we will ascend and be able to also hear, in
return, that which the Creator wants to respond. That’s it.
W Student on Zoom: (29:32) The text advises us to regard oneself as the heel in relation to the group. The heel is something that propels the body forward, but it has no eyes. What does it mean in my own actions?
M. Laitman: I need to help all my friends for them to be connected, to be in the lessons, to understand the lessons, so that each and every one of them will want to understand, and that which he understands and feels in the lesson, he wants to pass this on to others, that all the friends in the Ten will be helping one another, feeling themselves as being one man in one heart. That’s how we all want to advance.
W Student Attendee from Australia: (30:50) How do we deal with everyday stresses from life in a kabbalistic way?
M. Laitman: It is best for you to be connected to a Ten, and from the Ten raise your requests to the Creator. In this manner we will be able to bestow and influence the Creator somewhat for Him to manage us. If you have a problem that you want the Creator to hear about the lack in the group or your life, then we need to awaken this lack amongst the members of the group, and this is how you advance, until he hears our plea, our request, and executes it. And we will see how this simply happens before us.
Student Attendee from Hungary: (33:00) I have the support of my Ten. I am really blessed to have the courage to ask this question. How can we help you rise spiritually?
M. Laitman: I certainly rise together with my students. It impacts me as well. It has an influence to the extent that you succeed, to the extent which my students ascend, and of course, I am dependent on that as well. Thank you also for asking and being concerned. I care first of all for you, for you to receive help and support and for you to rise upwards such that you will be strong, powerful. A society that will be able to sustain and contain our entire international, spiritual vessel and help everyone, and raise everyone upwards. Nevertheless, thank you very much for all that you do, and we will work on this connection together and on this ascent together.
Student Attendee from Germany: (35:15) It’s an honor to meet you. How can we receive everything we receive as a gift from the Good Who Does Good?
M. Laitman: The Creator gives us advice on how we need to compose ourselves in the connections between us, and from this connection be connected with Him, with the Creator Himself. If we do this, even on the lowest possible degree, we will have no problem in us raising our prayer to Him. Here, in return from Him, what he wants to tell us. It’s truly a connection that is an opportunity for each and every person in the world. It is explained in the wisdom of Kabbalah, in a truly correct and simple and close manner to each and every one.
W Attendee from Holland: (37:24) I’m extremely grateful to be a part of this whole experience and thank you for answering our questions. Is there a quick way to bypass the ego within our Ten?
M. Laitman: There isn’t. There is none. I looked and I wanted. I asked about it for the first few years that I was studying with many Kabbalists. Throughout my life I did not find anything where you can perform some kind of side business or some trick here. There is no such thing because here specifically in the wisdom of Kabbalah, we need to be as straight and pure as possible. If in all kinds of engagements of ours, other engagements that we have, we can do anything. Here you cannot. Here it all works only in a direct manner. Bit, we will succeed, nevertheless.
W Attendee from the United States: (39: 17) In the Ten we have friends that feel things deeply and friends that are more intellectual. How do we harness their strengths for His contentment?
M. Laitman: We learn what they wrote, and we try to connect together in one desire, around the sources, the articles that they wrote. It turns out that it kind of sorts us. It connects us in a.... It makes for us like a a globe, a sphere in which we are all together, and we all belong to one another, are associated with one another in an equal manner. That’s how we advance.
Student on Zoom: (40:49) It is written, the Creator dwells amongst us in our Ten. How to examine that in our Ten? Is it the feeling of unity, ultimate connection? How to feel the Creator who is in the Ten?
M. Laitman: The Creator dwelling in the Ten, we can feel and reveal by this Ten, or any Ten, to the extent in which the Ten knows how each of its members annuls himself towards the others, and then connects oneself to all the others, to the Ten. Then it works out that in the Ten there are these two conditions: self-annulment and connection to everyone. Then within them the Creator is revealed.
Student on Zoom: (42:15) I was wondering if correction of desire means receive in order to bestow. When I actually receive the pleasure, could I momentarily pass it on to others, the bestowal, or I should take some time to soak it, to feel it, bask in it for a while, to try to understand the meaning of it, and then do the other part of bestowing to my brother.
M. Laitman: Yes. I can do it that way.
Student on Zoom: (43:22) Can you paint a picture of love of friends, so we can envision and achieve it?
M. Laitman: Yes, a picture of love between friends, you can depict as a circle within which all the friends are and hold one another, sustain one another, and appeal to the Creator as they raise Him to the center of the circle between them, and in such a way they advance with the Creator, with Him. They’re drawn towards Him. This is how you could depict it.
Student on Zoom: (44:23) This came up in our Ten and it’s kind of similar for each one of us. What is the right approach to reach the friends’ hearts in order to give them confidence to open up their hearts.
M. Laitman: To open the heart towards them, open your heart towards them such that they will be able to enter your heart. And then they will learn from that action of yours and from the feeling of your heart. They will know what needs to be in their heart, and that’s how you will advance.
Student Attendee from the Netherlands: (45:41) How in a workshop to be annulled and still add to what a friend says.
M. Laitman: Out of your yearning to be together with the friends and together with the Creator, it’s not a problem. It doesn’t cancel any other inclination for connection with the friends, and no other inclination toward advancing them.
W Student Attendee from Macedonia: (46:43) How do I get annulled completely, but then stay in that annulment, in that state forever, for good.
M. Laitman: For always, it’s impossible, forever it’s impossible, but in place of that we need to try to near an even higher annulment, an even higher annulment, even higher. Then it won’t be difficult to nullify oneself and to ascend this way.
Student: How do you mean more and more annul?
M. Laitman: Towards the friends, towards the group, towards the Creator.
Student Attendee from Belgium: (48:15) I’m sitting here among some really great friends. I’m really trying hard to connect to them, but most of the time I feel like a senseless being. I think I have a strong desire, but no big feelings, no emotions. What’s the relation between desire and emotion and how to increase the emotions?
M. Laitman: Certainly, for a person, the feeling is the most important thing. One lives within emotions, within feelings. That’s why we need to be concerned with having an open feeling toward the Creator, towards the friends, towards our teachers, Baal HaSulam, Rabash. In such a manner we will be able to open our hearts more and more towards their matter and to ascend together with them.
Student: Can you also explain the relation between desire and emotion?
M. Laitman: Feeling is that which appears within the desire, then when it happens, we receive it. It gets absorbed and begins to work on us. That’s it.
W Student Attendee from United States: (50:53) In KabU 13, we pray after the lesson with a common intention from our hearts. Is there anything that can strengthen this to a true prayer?
M. Laitman: Only to feel that we’re doing this out of one heart, that we are raising this prayer to the Creator, from our common, one heart.
W Student Attendee from Holland: (51:47) I like it so much here. It’s so good for all the humans and for me and the others. I would like to believe in the Creator, but is it possible without a Creator? Can we just be nice to others?
M. Laitman: Why would the people that are here do that in their world? We all need to want to rise to the Creator to be great, important, bestowing towards everyone all the abundance of goodness, and then everything can become good. We will reach that.
Retreat Moderator: All the students here just want to hug you and thank you, and friends, let’s show our gratitude to Rav.
Retreat Moderator: (53:44) We have another half a day for us here today, with more workshops and more between us, and a festive meal, and then tomorrow some more work. Is there something that we need to focus on, besides the connection. We know we need to connect. What’s another step deeper that friends here can take to really create a strong Kli, that can feel the Creator in it.
M. Laitman: I recommend for each of you to feel that all your hearts are connected around one’s heart and are pressuring your heart so that it will emerge out into a connection with the others. In short, be drawn towards the connection of all the hearts and succeed. We are with you.

Reading Excerpt 3: RABASH, Article No. 5 (1987), "What Is the Advantage in the Work More than in the Reward?"
Greeting the Shechina is very important because the purpose is for man to achieve this degree.
But to come to greet the Shechina requires prior preparation, for one to be fit for it. In the words of our sages, this is called “As He is merciful, so you are merciful.” This is the interpretation of the verse, “and to cleave unto Him, cleave unto His attributes.” It means, as explained in the book Matan Torah [The Giving of the Torah], that only by a person working in love of others can he achieve Dvekut [adhesion] with the Creator. There are many names to this: “Instilling of the Shechina,” “attainment the Torah,” “greeting the Shechina,” etc.
M. Laitman: If they want me to talk, I’ll talk, but actually everyone understands the simple manner in which it’s written.
Question (Women Eng 1): (1:00:37) It said that “He is merciful so you will be merciful.” If we ask the Creator for wisdom, wouldn’t that make everything merciful, and all these attributes? If we get His wisdom, His guidance every second of our lives, He is giving us wisdom, I feel like that would be everything. United and everything.
M. Laitman: Yes. Of course, the main thing for us is not to know some language or code, but rather to know how to connect to the heart of the friends and to be together in one heart. This is what the wisdom of Kabbalah works on.
Student: Can I say one thing from my heart, please? I have a big desire. I would like to thank you for Shamati. It’s saving my life. I can’t explain. Thank you so much for giving us Shamati. It’s my love. Everything.
M. Laitman: Thank you very much.
Question (Women MAK): (1:02:27) It seems to me that the Ten needs to measure the work in vessels of bestowal.
M. Laitman: The extent to which they advance in the Kli of bestowal, the extent to which they measure their progress in the spiritual.
Student: What are the signifiers, signs of true bestowal in the Ten?
M. Laitman: To the extent to which the Ten begins to discover the Creator within it.
Question (Women MAK 25): (1:03:15) According to what signs can we determine our readiness to meet the Shechina?
M. Laitman: To the extent to which you can be together with the friends in one heart, you’re closer to seeing the face of the Shechina.
Student: What does it mean to be in one heart with the friends?
M. Laitman: You’re supposed to work together, to be together as one man in one heart. That’s how it has to be.
Question (Kyiv): (1:04:03) What does it mean that the Ten discovers the face of the Shechina? Is it a collective experience with the friends?
M. Laitman: Yes, of course. If you don’t have a common feeling, how will you feel the Creator? He has to be connected with others, otherwise, how can he bestow, receive? He has to have a feeling of one whole Kli.
Student: This whole completing feeling, that complete vessel. Exactly does it discover the face of the Shechina? How is it different than some regular connection in the Ten?
M. Laitman: In the essence of the connection, the reason why they’re connecting, they do this in order to feel the Creator, not for themselves, but for the whole world. That’s the direction they’re operating in.
Student: We assemble together in the Yeshivat Havarim. We gather with the friends, and we try to build up such an intention so as to reveal the Creator to the whole world. What should take place in this meeting, in our connections that we reveal the face of the Shechina?
M. Laitman: You need to feel that you’re gradually coming closer and closer to that same feeling, so that in you the face of Divinity will be revealed.
Student: What is the face of Divinity in the Ten? What exactly do Kabbalists feel in the Ten when they discover the face of Divinity?
M. Laitman: They feel the revelation of the Creator before them.
Question (German): (1:06:35) It says here if you annul yourself to be a nothing, you can be as the heel of the society. How can you be an example of being a, let’s say, a nothing?
M. Laitman: The example for annulment is where a person nullifies himself and is with the society, but does not operate in any way, rather, only annuls himself. If it is demanded of him, for him to supply something for everyone, he is busy only with that. The same force, if he will be demanded to annul himself, then he will nullify himself before everyone.
Student: How will it evoke envy as an example, this being nothing in the Ten?
M. Laitman: That’s something we’re going to have to talk about at another time but it’s possible. It is possible, because a person who nullifies himself comes to the degree of the Creator. He is simply like the Creator, at the same level, at the same height.
Question (Women Darom): (1:09:04) If we see the revelation of the face of the Shechina, can we then bestow without taking ourselves into account? Is that called the miracle, when suddenly I can do something without taking myself into account? And does this feeling generate a pleasant sensation?
M. Laitman: Answers yes after each question above.
Student: This good sensation. Does it go into my vessels of reception?
M. Laitman: Yes.
Student: So later, when this feeling departs, does it make it harder for me to reach it again?
M. Laitman: No.
Student: Do we forget that good sensation that goes into the vessels of reception?
M. Laitman: Everything can be forgotten, and it’s on purpose, so that we will have the possibility to rise from one degree to the next.
Student: Do you have any tips on how to forget?
M. Laitman: How to forget? Yes. The most certain tip for forgetting is to love.
Question (Women MAK 51): (1:11:01) The face of Divinity revealed in the Ten, is that the face of Divinity which is revealed between husband and wife? Is there a difference?
M. Laitman: No face of Divinity is revealed between a man and his wife. There is Divinity between them, but it’s not the same thing. We’ll learn it in the future. Don’t get confused.
Question (Women ITA): (1:11:47) The Creator prefers unity above any personal interest. Does it only have this thought of discovering that love builds every type of union?
M. Laitman: Yes, the thoughts construct the unity.
Question (Women Turkiye 5): (01:12:26) We have read this article many times, but this is the first time I have heard about accepting the face of Shechina. And I'm very impressed. Please explain to us what it is to accept the face of Shechina and to meet the face of Shechina?
M. Laitman: Can you explain that question to them?
Moderator: Is seeing the face of Divinity, the Shechina. I can’t explain it. It’s a very exalted, a very high degree, such sublime unity.
M. Laitman: Only connection between the hearts can achieve that. We are all in one heart as one heart, and so long as we are as one heart, we can achieve it.
Question (Turkiye 2): (1:13:59) How to feel the Creator in the current state now. Not later, not when we get back home, but right now. We want to feel Him right now.
M. Laitman: You want to connect your hearts, only the hearts. Everything else, the hands, the feet, the head. Don’t take that into account. The heart alone. We want to connect the hearts in such a way that instead of many hearts, you will have one heart. One. And within that heart, there is only one desire, to discover the Creator. Nothing else besides that. If we want it, truly want it, if we walk around with that very deep thought all the time, then it will happen quickly.
The lesson is over, but you will continue it, and I hope that you will help each other pass the lesson in such a way that you receive pleasure, attainment, bestowal, every abundance and further love between us.

Moderator: (1:18:34) This was truly a marvelous lesson. With the retreat in Europe, I’d say I was truly inspired. The great diversity of questions, the strength of these people.
