Item 12 “We should understand that the essence of the creature, and of creation as a whole”

(00:34)

1. R. (01:26) The Creator created a will to receive a corrupted one as the Kabbalist explained to us by which we feel only problems in troubles in our existence. Why do we need to correct it and why do we need to correct it on our own? Why is this correction depend on us, why does he do this? What is happening with us that we correct? All of these things we need to talk and scrutinize. Also, it is not clear so much, this corrupted desire is important, that this is what the Creator did that other than the evil inclination, other than this bad thing, he did not create a thing. This is truly so. It is really that way, that the Creator didn't create anything except for the evil inclination. Although it seems very harsh but that's how it is, I have created the evil inclination. Yes, that's why it's called Beria outside of the Creator.

Item 13 (02:56) 'The thing is that as corporeal objects are separated from one another...”

2. S. (06:21) According to the principle of equivalence of form, if everyone is evil and everyone is bad, then everyone should be in adhesion even though they are all far from the Creator who is the good who is doing good.

R. This extends the distance from one another because the will to receive in each one because the will to receive in each one rejects the others.

S. We just read that equivalence of form means we are equal in our qualities?

R. The qualities are equal and each one has the will to receive but because the will to receive in each one is different than no one is equal to the other and we are all distant from one another.

3. S. (07:16) If we are in complete oppositeness of each other than how can we recognize the opposite quality?

R. We recognize everything from its opposite. We can't become familiar with something in and of itself. Let's say if we have some color before you it's because you have other colors that you can recognize that color compared to those with respect to them. No phenomena in nature, whatever it may be, we are not capable of recognizing, discerning, measuring, scrutinizing rather only with respect to other phenomena, how much they are similar, closer or opposite only in such a manner.

S. The will to receive is completely opposite the will to bestow then how does the will to receive identify the will to bestow?

R. Thus, we don't identify the will to receive which is opposite this we don't have the will to bestow

We learn our will to receive and enjoy being in it. We begin to suffer and we ask ourselves why we? are suffering, why our desire to receive brings us suffering. We can't just search why and how, we can't get rid of it to exchange it, to suffer less until we gradually reach a state that we get convinced that to reach good, it is possible only by bestowing. That is called bestowing in order to receive and from this we also reach to bestow with the intention to bestow and then to receive with the intention to bestow. We have 4 degrees of changes in us that we have to go through.

4. S. (09:48) He talks about equivalence of form here, what is form in spirituality, the form of desire or a form that needs to be equal?

R. The form is expression in general, a very general word and here he is referring to expression.

5. S. (10:19) If nothing besides desire to receive was created how can we come closer to each other and the Creator?

R. If we were only in the desire to receive then of course we wouldn't feel one another, but rather because in any case we are in some field of bestowal influenced from the Creator, very weak but nonetheless we are in the sensation, in something then we can check in what proximity or distance we are from one another. Even the desire to receive because without the desire to bestow between us it's called, that he is working in posterior between us, even in the desire to receive we can’t discern anything, we feel ourselves disconnected and we don't feel each other. What the Creator created to begin with, He created the corrected desire in receiving the intention to bestow at the end of correction and he broke it in order to give us the opportunity to attain all of creation from its beginning to its end. Here we are found in the broken vessels in which there is also the desire to receive and the big desire to bestow and we, by the desire to bestow that is between us, we can feel that we are distant from one another, opposite but even though that we reject and hate one another this is still done by the will to bestow which is between us and such we learn the system.

S. What does it mean that we hate each other?

R. Of course, if not the Creator that makes these connections between us, then we wouldn't feel one another at all. Why do we hate one another, because we feel one another and we want to use one another and to get close to one another, where does this come from that we want to use one another? It comes to us in any case, that there is some force of bestowing between us and we feel that we can enjoy one from the other. In each force that operates in nature that it is from one type either to receive or to bestow, it also has something in it of its opposite force against it, thus we can differentiate anything at all this way, we can discern something this way. If we would not feel the opposite for us, we wouldn't feel that we are in some relations between us good or bad. Creation nonetheless must be from the force of bestowal and outside of the force of bestowal, right, Beriah, creation from the word Bar - outside in Hebrew. Even from the worst desire to receive because we want to enjoy from the desire to bestow that is present in creation just for ourselves. What does the greatest wicked want, the evil inclination, what does it want? It wants to receive all of the upper light, it wants to swallow the Creator that he shall serve and fill him. All of creation begins in this, that there are two forces and from this mixture from the shattering and the incorporation, this fusion between them that one enters the other, begins to be the system which goes on to scrutinize itself of how each one can be rewarded and to use one another, and thus gradually out of these scrutinies, all the parts of creation reach the correct connection mutually and that they utilize all of the forces for the benefit of everyone, for the benefit of each one and everyone. This is gradually scrutinized out of the shattering and the mutual incorporation. Even the stars, galaxies, everything happening in our universe we can also see that there are those same processes in everything this law operates on all levels.

Item 14 (16:17) “To save the creatures from this titanic separation ...”

6. R. (19:34) To save the created beings from this titanic separation, the first restriction took place separating the fourth phase from the rest of the phases, Root, 1, 2, 3, 4, and the rest of the Partzufim, faces of Kedusha, holiness. The fourth phase separated from all the rest of the systems so that the great measure of reception remained, the fourth phase remained an empty space void of any light. Meaning in any space that the light appears it is not in the fourth phase because the fourth phase is entirely the desire to receive and the light is opposite to it by its nature, since all of the Partzufim of Kedusha emerged with a screen in their vessel so they would not receive light in this fourth phase. If we have in this entire system vessels that don't want to receive the light despite that they want, they are called the Holy vessels meaning they are similar to The Creator because He also does not receive. Then when the upper light was extended and spread to the creative being, this screen that is before the desire to receive, rejected to its posterior, this upper light. This is regarded as striking between the upper lights and the screen that the screen rejects it and the truth is, these are desires that the upper light which wants to expand in the desire of the created being and the screen, its desire is to reject the upper light that it won't expand in the created being. The screen separates between the upper light and the desire which raises reflected light from below upward and returns its clothing in the 10 Sefirot of the upper light. Meaning as the upper light that reaches the desire overcomes and rejects the light in return, this is called that it dresses it.

Because that part of the light that was rejected to the posterior is called the reflected light and as it dresses the upper light it becomes a vessel of reception for the upper light instead of the fourth phase. Meaning just like the light wanted to enter the desire and fill it entirely, the desire now, by the screen rejects the upper light and that is called that it clothes the upper light just above it, in such a manner it connects with the upper force. Since afterwards the vessel Malchut expanded by the same measure of reflected light, the rejected light which was addressed in the upper light from below upwards as much as Malchut rejects the upper light, to this extent in quantity and quality it can expand and receive within it the upper light from below upwards. As much as it rejects the upper light this is called the Rosh, the head of the Partzuf and as much as it receives later within it the upper light already clothed in it reflected light that’s called the Guf-the body of the Partzuf. This is what is known as the head and body of each degree because the coupling of striking, reflecting the upper light from below upwards and dresses the 10 sefirot of the upper light and the form of 10 Sefirot of Rosh in the roots of the vessels, only the beginning of the connection with the Creator since there cannot be actual clothing there.

Meaning there is no will to receive there only rejecting from receiving. When Malchut expands with the reflected light from above downwards then the reflected light ends, it doesn't reject any more, rather it is prepared and ready to work as a receiver and it becomes a vessel for the upper light. At that time there is clothing of the lights in the vessel and this is called the Guf, a body of that degree which is a complete vessel. After the rejection of the upper light meaning that I don't want to receive it in the manner that I enjoy but rather I make a calculation of how much I can receive in order to bestow contentment, not me rather to the Creator through the group. Accordingly I perform this action and then it turns out that by my desire to receive and the pleasure that comes to me, I can perform other actions that I raise myself to the will to bestow and instead of receiving I bestow. Such the Creator did in the created being all the preparations to resemble the Creator. You need to think about it and to get deep into it a lot, to get confused a lot, and understand the opposites from all directions that we can approach this matter.

7. S. (26:50) It happened in such a way that the desire to receive became an empty space devoid of light, so the establishing of the screen is this the annulment?

R. No that is restriction, the impregnation is done after the restriction. It's already a connection between the Creator and the creature through the group that it loses itself within the upper one but it doesn't want to determine anything, rather it gives itself to the upper one and this is called conception. Beforehand restriction that it doesn't want to work with its desire to receive because beside the desire to receive it doesn't identify anything in itself.

8. S. (27:57) How do we see this light that we reject from our discernment? What kind of impression does the light keep in us, so we discern that we should reject it?

R. The upper light illuminates us from afar and gradually teaches us through our efforts in the group and connection and all kinds of actions that we seemingly want to resemble spirituality then the upper light influences and teaches us more what is called bestowal and what is called spirituality and this is how we advance. We progress on two axes, in this that we don't agree and we do agree, we don't understand and we do understand. This is just like it is in our world because we have both our desire to receive and also the upper light awakens in us a bit from the desire to bestow and then we begin to scrutinize both the discernment one against the other.

9. S. (29:49) Does realizing the disparity of form mean being closer to the Creator?

R. Of course, even that we are in the intention to receive and all sorts of manners, bad ones, nonetheless we are still closer to the Creator, yes. The main thing is that all the time we want to locate more and more spiritual discernments, good ones bad ones it doesn't matter what. Always we rise in holiness, we do not descend in holiness and in each state that comes we need to be in joy and happy as this is closer in absolute value to correction. Rather the difference is if it is left or right and of course we will fall just like it is written, a thousand times the righteous shall fall and rise again and we will progress to the goal.

10. S. (31:32) We get very excited when we want to serve the Creator. Is it very important to think about who I am serving when doing something with the friends, because a lot of times I want to do it for the Creator and I forget about the friends?

R. That is correct, we have states that we forget about the group and the friends and worry only for ourselves and there are states that we are concerned only for the Creator or the group and there are states where these things are mixed up one to the other. The main thing is that, we as much as possible, tie one with the other and the other. The main thing is the Creator, the group and myself with the entire system, that we are learning the wisdom of Kabbalah, all of this is always cooking up in me. It is not a lot of things, me, the group and the Creator and what is happening between us which is called the wisdom of Kabbalah.

11. S. (33:17) The main point in what we read is the matter of the screen, what is the screen in the 10 and how can we build this together?

R. The screen is the main thing and it is the focal point of the wisdom of Kabbalah that in building of the screen is dependent on the spiritual degree of a person, the group, the world and all of reality. This screen is the opposite to the pleasure in the desire to receive the first action of this is the first restriction, also beyond this how I turn my desire to receive to be in the intention to bestow. Not just that I don't receive but I can also receive from the Creator forces and receive from Him all of the pleasures on the intention to bestow. That above and beyond my desire to enjoy I am ready to enjoy, but in order to bestow to Him and not in order to bestow to myself. This is the work of the screen, the restriction is the action that is also incorporated in this action that must be initially first, the restrictions, then the screen and then the reflected light and the action of bestowal to the Creator. To the Creator we can't bestow anything to Him as he has no vessels of reception, rather we can bestow to Him on the condition that we receive in order to give Him contentment. If I receive above my desire rather only to bestow to Him then also my annulment and also my reception and also my pleasure, it all turns into this that I give pleasure to Him. Then to this extent that I give him pleasure, ascribe to Him all of the pleasure that I receive then in such an extent I am already similar to Him, in this we connect.

12. S. (36:27) What is the role of the light in the screen and what is the role of the vessel?

R. The light arranges the corrections and a vessel receives the corrections, raises MAN receives the light and arranges everything that comes.

13. S. (36:56) The disparity of form of the fourth phase from the Creator is that what causes the distance, then what is the restriction over?

R. The restriction is to use the fourth phase as it is in order to receive and if we use the fourth phase in order to bestow then we can use it even more so and the more the better.

S. If the disparity of opinions of views makes me hate what is opposite to me then I don't want to receive pleasure I just want to hate it?

R. No not just that it could be the opposite, hate and love are very close to each other. It all depends on the intention then there is no problem to flip it easily, it all depends on the importance of the goal, how we use this big desire to bestow and its big light, how I use them. Think about it.

14. S. (38:28) In the text he mentions that when the light is rejected it becomes reflected light and then it is turned into a vessel of reception for the light instead of the fourth phase, so how does this happen that the reflected light becomes a vessel for reception?

R. That is correct, that the light cannot be a vessel of reception but the rejection from enjoying for myself and enjoying for the Creator, this condition makes the vessel worthy of its use and its cause and then the vessel can receive the light in order to bestow. Depict to yourself that you are in front of the host as a guest and you want to do a favor for the host and do good to him. Inside the host he doesn't feel it as so and you do this exercise inside yourself despite all of the good things that he wants to give you, that are very tasty that you are very happy but you can rise above both your appetite. And you begin to receive these pleasures through the restriction of your desire to enjoy for yourself. You open up your desire to receive and your pleasures in order to bestow to the host. It’s very hard to depict this as we don't have this example in this world but theoretically depict to yourself how it’s possible, that’s our work. In this you begin to be, instead of being a guest, to be like the host or even more than the host because on you it is dependent, how much pleasure you give the host.

15. S. (40:47) What’s happening when the reflected light ends and Malchut expands downward with vessels of the head?

R. We will learn that later on as this is how the spiritual Partzuf is formed, meaning there is an action that was made to receive in order to bestow by which the created being resembles the Creator and here raises himself to a higher degree from the degree of the created being to that degree of the Creator is called, crossing the barrier and begin to identify with the Creator. Also to measure oneself with respect to the Creator where he is opposite the Creator, we will learn this as it comes later on. After today we will go through this part and if not we'll continue tomorrow and maybe use the drawing board for this as well.

16. S. (42:27) How to make these calculations, what is this system?

R. It is a system that was built from the relationship between the desire to bestow of the Creator and the desire to receive of the created being, there is nothing more. There is a desire to bestow of The Creator who created a desire to receive called the created being, between these two desires we learn all of the wisdom of Kabbalah, how the created being brings himself to the state where he received all that the Creator wants to give to him. All of this wisdom, all of the actions that we are learning about and want to realize, they are called the wisdom of Kabbalah, the wisdom of how to receive. To begin with how the Creator created us, we can't receive more than a very thin light called this world. The whole study of how to receive the light coming from the Creator to the desire to receive to the creation is called the wisdom of Kabbalah.

S. From the restriction until Malchut expands below for the first time it’s not clear how the screen changes its utilization, first to reject?

R. We will learn that bit by bit in detail don't jump ahead. We will first follow Baal HaSulam how he writes it to us, and then gradually I trust his mind. Maybe I would write it differently in a different kind of progression but this is how he wrote it. I make myself smaller and accept what he wrote, as probably the way in which the material needs to flow and be presented more correctly because he sympathizes with the Creator and understands these matters better than I do, so let's approach it and go to it in depth this way.

17. S. (45:13) Is the attitude of the guest towards the host changing after he succeeds to restrict himself and return to the host?

R. Of course, the relationships between them always change and that is already under the control of the created being.

18. S. (45:41) Where do we attain the opposite connection, by rejection we don't feel the screen but rather the light through the hearts of their friends, its normal you don’t initially discern?

R. Each time our discernments change, we need to go forward and collect them gradually and they become the wisdom of Kabbalah, the wisdom of how to receive what the Creator wants to give.

19. S. (46:25) What is the force of the screen, the importance of the connection between us and the Creator, reasons for desires and pleasures?

R. The screen is not the restriction, there is restriction and there is screen, the restriction is the decision that I don't receive for myself according to my desires, nothing from the host just according to the example of host and the guest. But I decide that I am taking only to the extent to which I can bestow to the host, give contentment to the host and then if I have such a force above the restriction and I begin to measure how much can I from the smallest light, the smallest pleasure to the greatest pleasure that I feel, how can I make them all in receiving in order to bestow. Meaning that I enjoy them but my pleasure is all because the Creator wants me to enjoy. I am clear that he wants me to enjoy and after the restriction I am in contact with Him and I feel Him and not myself. I feel his heart and not my belly and then when I have after the restriction a feeling at heart, then I can compare these feelings and I can work only to increase the mutual feelings between us from heart to heart. That is how we approach and help each other come into contact that is as tight as possible.

20. S. (48:44) What is our relationship between our annulment in the 10 and the force of the screen?

R. The annulment is annulment and the screen is the screen, annulment is the first stage from which we begin. When I cancel my desire to receive meaning that in its natural form it does not participate in my connection with the friends and the Creator, it does not participate. Now what I want and how I want to connect through the friends to the Creator is in how much can I bestow to them to bring them progress on their path that is basically the restriction. After the restriction I make a calculation, can I be together with the group and the Creator in the same kind of attitude that the Creator has towards me to the group or not, how can I do this? Then I begin to build my relationship with the Creator through the group in a state called Ibur, impregnation. Simple, we enter such a relationship and then we advance. You see that we all the time go deeper and deeper into realizing the method of how to receive from the Creator which has to happen in the corrected vessels otherwise we won't be able to receive. How do you receive from the Creator more each time, more portions and layers.

21. S. (51:17) The decision of the upper one for coupling of meeting is the demand of the lower one or the upper one wants to give us an awakening?

R. It doesn't work in such a way that it is a decision of the upper one or the lower one, it all stems from the previous development. The upper one presents before us stages of development and we according to these stages need to advance towards Him. That’s what is happening.

22. S. (52:10) In what stage in the process ascribed here builds the screen?

R. We are not there yet.

23. S. (52:27) Why is the restriction not a screen?

R. Restriction is not a screen. A screen is an active action from the created being towards the Creator who is working with his desire to receive to invert it and transform it to bestowal, that is called screen and the restriction is that it only locks and shuts himself from receiving, from being in connection. The restriction is referred to as a severe act on behalf of the created being because he shuts himself down and doesn't want to be in contact with the Creator. The host puts all of the delights and dishes in front of you wanting to give you all of reality and you say you don't want anything, I don't want nothing I'm not going to take a drop of water from the bottle, why, because what you are doing before me I want to use it to reach equivalence of form with you, connection with you. It turns out as if you disregard and don't appreciate all that he puts before you, all the delights He gives you. You are turning his delights to a memes so you basically don't need it, meaning if I could reach equivalence of form with the Creator directly I would not need the delights or anything, only equivalence of form why do I need fulfillment? Here I have to understand that our work has to be in cleansing, it has to be clean and we will speak about that later.

S. The restriction gives this connection if it doesn't want anything and he just rejects?

R. I want a different kind of connection, I want a connection of the heart, and interconnection and not through my desire to receive, through my belly. I want to be connected to the Creator through intentions, not actions just like he wants to bestow to me I want to bestow to Him. That I will be equal to Him, like Him, similar to Him and in that will be in adhesion.

S. Where do all these thoughts and desires come from?

R. That is what the Creator sets up for us to begin with without the Creator we wouldn't be able to do anything here. We have to respond properly to those relationships and states that he awakens in us.

24. S. (55:46) Here we get to the second stage of the work that you're together with the 10 requesting that the Creator be revealed to the friends nothing for yourself only that he will be revealed is this correct?

R. Yes.

25. S. (56:19) What can we learn from this that the restriction is only in the fourth phase?

R. About the desire to receive because all of the rest of the discernment is how to express their desire to receive in bestowing. If I want to bestow then I have no other phases above the Bechina Dalet and also the fourth phase is very thin, it is just receiving. But if I want to use it in order to bestow then I go deeper in my desire to invert it into a vessel of bestowal. Then the fourth phase becomes thick and consists of many of the auxiliary forces and in it I plan, how do I achieve bestowing so then the fourth phase becomes similar to the Keter. To the will to bestow.

S. So basically the first three phases that can seemingly bestow before the breaking it's already beginning to bestow?

R. No, the first phases cannot bestow as they don't have a desire to receive.

S. Didn't we read before an item that begins the process of restriction screen and reflected light?

R. Yes.

S. So the fourth phase does this?

R. The fourth desire does everything, nothing is done anywhere else as there is no desire, only Bechina Dalet uses all the desires and foundations prepared in it.

S. In the beginning of the lesson you said there was a need for the shattering to cause equivalence between the Creator and the creature and here we are learning that there is equivalence between the Creator and the creature already?

R. Okay. We will learn a bit more.

26. S. (58:49) When we want to bestow contentment to the Creator as a 10, we create or draw some light to the host?

R. Yes.

27. S. (59:26) What determines the course of rejection in our state?

R. The extent we respect the quality of bestowing above that of reception.

28. S. (59:53) How to correctly react to the desire of the Creator?

R. We don't see the Creator’s will, we don’t feel it in anything but the moment we want to make the right connection between us and everything that we learn, and we feel a resistance, then for the lack of a better choice, from helplessness, to rise above this resistance we alternately turn to the Creator and ask him to help us. This is how we find connection with the Creator and it can take 10 to 20 years even. This is all included in the first degree but there is no more important and difficult degree than this one.

Item 15 (01:00:58)Thus, new Kelim were made in the Partzufim of Kedusha….”

29. R. (01:05:06) This is essentially the whole foundation of the wisdom of Kabbalah, the wisdom of how to receive. That force of rejection becomes a vessel of reception. Not that it becomes a vessel of reception, but it is a condition for the vessel of reception. I will read the last line. And so it turns out that its force of rejection becomes the main vessel for reception of the meal and not the hunger he had before, even though that was the ordinary vessel of reception. He developed a new vessel of reception that he wants to receive only by using his vessels in a new way. This is the main thing and that’s why this method is called the wisdom of Kabbalah, the method of reception, meaning how to truly be able to receive in a whole manner without shame, without staying in the lowly form of this world; to achieve through reception the level of the Creator, to identify with the Creator, be like the Creator. It’s all only through the right use of the will to receive within us and the pleasure that the Creator wants to bestow to us. If we tell him no, not this way and not how you want to push it to us to begin with, but we make a restriction and we want to use these two forces, the desire and pleasure in a different way, in order to achieve your degree, to bestow to you. This is our whole work. Then we achieve entrance to the world of Ein Sof (infinity) perceiving the whole of reality like the Creator. As it is said you will be like God knowing Good and Evil.

30. S. (01:07:29) Baal HaSulam speaks of shame and embarrassment, what is the meaning of this?

R. The shame means the will to receive, that just as we will now feel that, not like the animate level which feels no shame. If they have an opportunity to eat something they eat it. A baby that is still on the animate level but then develops the speaking level, and the speaking level has the sense of the others and that feeling of others on the one hand it ruins our sense of pleasure, we can't just enjoy each pleasure directly. On the other hand it helps us reach a state where we can identify with the Creator. The shame is a very important thing, it’s a creation in and of itself and it exists only in human beings and not in all of them. We talk about the shame as a unique quality. It's not about people who are developed because they're philosophers or they are intelligent, no, it is people who are drawn to identify with the Creator. The shame that exists in their will to receive deep down pushes them toward the Creator. To begin with this is what we call the point in the heart, this is what pushes us forward to the Creator, it’s the shame. That we cannot agree to stay on the beastly level we want to be Adam, human. So we need to think about how to develop this feeling, how to appreciate this feeling so much that it will grow within us these forces of rejection, of refusal to direct reception and give us more strength toward restriction, and Masach (screen) and Ohr Hozer (reflected light). All of that comes to us from the shame from that force of resistance. And so the shame is a creation in itself which exists in those called Adam that from this necessity that appears in them that they develop, that they need to be similar to the Creator, even though they don't yet really feel it or understand what is going on with them, but that it all comes from the force of shame. All from the power of shame. It's not by chance that we tell people sometimes to be ashamed of yourself. You have no figure of a human, you are like an animal but that is a general thing. Here specifically with regards to the wisdom of Kabbalah we need to understand this foundation which is very important to us.

31. S. (01:11:31) It turns out the separate forces, the force of shame if it exists steals the forces from rejection, the efforts in that and they become annulled because in this there is also the force of shame? So where does the force of shame in this structure of rejection and the reception of light?

R. The power of shame is the foundation for the correction of the screen. To the extent that a person has this feeling of shame, to that extent the Masach (screen) is built in him. That he cannot agree to being a beast to the point that I am better off dead and he wants to be a human. Meaning that he has not self-pride like we might think with regards to this, but rather he has an urge to be like the Creator, similar to the Creator, to give back to the Creator what he receives from Him, his entire life. That is how we come to equivalence and identify with the host because the host built everything for us and did everything for us, all of reality, all of these states, everything there is.
