Part 2:
Baal HaSulam. General Preface
1.S. (04:50) What are we learning now? What is this article?
R. It is an article by Baal HaSulam and we need to study all of his writings in order to follow his path. Try to read, to understand, to connect with the article itself and the author.
2. S. (05:28) What is this matter of not revealing the Torah? Everything is concealed, what is concealed from a person?
R. We need to understand it and we will talk about it.
3. S. (05:47) It is written that the secrets begin revealing from one generation to the next, the secrets of the Zohar, does it mean that it is revealed in the writings of the ARI and Baal HaSulam, does it mean that the secrets are revealed in every generation?
R. Not only in the writings, there are means through which the divine wisdom is revealed to those in this world.
S. Meaning those in this world start feeling this wisdom more now than in previous generations?
R. Yes. That is how it works from one generation to the next.
Reading Continued (06:49) “To Clarify the Text In Which We Began…”
4. R. (10:29) Any questions on the text and not just to take time from everyone.
5. S. (10:36) Kabbalists chose a special language so that we won't be mistaken in the study with corporeal things, so why is it written that the Torah is written in the language of people?
R. It is a different time and they were different people and we can't even tell what is going on with them.
Reading continued (11:00) “The ARI Taught Us That the Ten Sefirot…”
6. S. (19:06) At the end of this item he gives this definition which is innovation in terms of the will to receive and it is not that he received it from the Creator, but it is something that came from his awakening for more reception. What does that mean?
R. He is describing the development of the will to receive but in addition to what he received from above from the Creator, the will to receive develops inside the created being with His participation.
S. What is this ‘more’ that the created being wants?
R. It means that other than the root of the will to receive that comes to him from the Creator, he develops inside the Created being in two degrees Root, 1, 2, 3, 4 and these degrees belong to the created being.
S. I understand, so more is not just the Dalet, it is the whole stemming down, the whole cascading?
R. Yes.
7. S. (20:23) About what he says, until the ARI I thought that that was only Ten Sefirot and ARI taught that there are five Behinot. How does that teach us about the wisdom of truth that there were great Kabbalists, people who attained the Zohar, the whole 125 degrees and until the ARI, that did not say that?
R. We don't quite understand it because we do not know what are degrees, we do not know what is the end of correction, so it is a bit too early to ask about it. We lack the feeling. Imagine when little kids started to ask about such degrees that the grown-ups are going through. It is early.
8. S. (21:18) One of the things that I understand from the reading of this excerpt is that a long time ago there was this Kabbalist who had students and they took from his light and they received that. Here he is saying that now we need to work in an organized manner. In Rabash’s articles that we read, I am very happy that they are long because there is this influence of the light and I would not summarize them into two paragraphs as some students want. I feel that we build different parts which at the end they connect through the group, through the world Kli, not just the Ten. What is our attitude, should we continue in that way or should we work in this organized manner that he intends here?
R. Why is it not organized when we develop this way, when we study this way?
S. That is what I thought because you build and then in the end these things connect between yourself and the Ten and the general Kli, and the inclusion and incorporation will be among everyone?
R. You need to accept everything that you are being taught and try to connect it into a single wisdom.
9. S. (22:50) It is written that the corporeal things are separated from one another by an ax and a hammer, the spiritual are separated from one another by the disparity of form between them. What can you do with this opposition between these things? I hear it is the same?
R. It is all related to those who attain.
10. S. (23:33) At first I want to tell you I'm not asking you this as a contradiction to the text, I just want to understand it better. We said the darkness is existence from absence, but then we say that the darkness extends from the light, so why would we keep saying that it is existence from absence?
R. Because it is opposite to the light, because it is opposite to the light.
11. S. There is a question here about the difference between the Sefirot and the division into five Behinot. What is the difference in relation to us and this understanding of the wisdom and our work?
R. Study and we will see, to jump ahead and ask about things we did not learn, it is not wise.
12. S. (25:08) It is written that light is created from darkness, that is not the matter of the creation but it forms the light so that it can be received below. What does it mean to form the light so that it can be received below?
R. The light has the same qualities, that later the same qualities will be revealed in the will to receive so it will be able to receive it and imagine the light. I'm impressed how one person can confuse an entire group and they tell him to sit down and he keeps going.
13. S. (26:28) He writes here that existence from absence is called the Creator. Why is existence from absence called the Creator, it should be the creation?
R. The elicitation of existence from absence, this is the matter of the Creator. Beforehand it did not exist in any shape or form but relative to us and now He exists. It is called creation, the act and the action of the Creator.
S. Creation is the created being, the will to receive and he writes here existence from absence is called the Creator because it is an innovation that was not previous in the creation, meaning that the Creator was not there beforehand?
R. No, He did not exist. Beforehand there was nothing and then we learned how everything got arranged, got made.
S. Meaning that it was His essence that was existence from existence and then there was existence from absence which is the Creator and then from the Creator came out the creation?
R. Yes.
14. S. (28:00) What is the cause of causes that he writes about here? What can be that he compares it above conveys Keter?
R. Yes.
S. That's his essence, the cause of causes?
R. That is supposed to be His Keter.
Reading Item 2 (28:40) “Hence, the Expansion of His light…”
15. R. (35:39) Any questions? I understand it but we will not scrutinize this here and take it to the next lesson.
