Even when masses of people pray together for everything to be fine, there is no guarantee that their prayer will be answered. To pray means to check yourself as to whether you really aim at love of others. It is hard for us to feel love for others, so this process takes place in a group, in a Minyan (a group of ten), in the prayer of many.
