Faith Above Reason - Selected Excerpts from the Sources. #44
1.Rav’s Introduction: Yes, we are continuing our relation to the broken vessels that are outside of us and everyone, and all the friends and all the people in the world, in all the souls. We want to connect with them. Precisely in those vessels that have fallen from each and every one of us, with the sin of the tree of knowledge, with the breaking of the vessel of Adam HaRishon. We want to reassemble them through connection, through love among us and to feel in them what we should feel in a complete Soul. Meaning the Creator, to come to a state where we are all in one vessel, in one desire, one intention and the upper light will be present in us, will fill us. All we need for this, is to rise above our egos which close each of us in our tiny vessels and return to the one vessel and there discover the upper light, the Creator, our common soul and in this way, come to this great force called faith. Meaning, the feeling of the common vessel. So, let us continue, ask as much as you want, as much as you can ask. We should make progress, but we should understand that the common vessel we are putting together is the common soul. This is the Shechina, Divinity. It is the place where we reveal the Creator, who fills that vessel. As we return to the state we were in before the breaking, before the sin of the tree of knowledge, good luck to us.

2. R. (05:28) Yes this is how we should go through the situation. From feeling the world within our vessel, our personal vessel, now, which comes to us from the breaking. This is why it is called a broken vessel. This part in itself is not broken but the fact that we feel only inside of it, this is called the shattering. When we connect to others and begin to feel reality through the ten, and then through the tens, all of humanity more and more and more. In widening and broadening the circles, then we rise above our initial vessel, and in this way come to a state where we reach the upper force, the feeling, the perception of the upper vessel.
Basically, the most important thing is the first degree, because in it we learn what it means to be in the ten, to be in ten Sefirot, to be in a Partzuf, even in the smallest Partzuf in the smallest state. This is still already a perception that is different, above our broken vessel. This is why it is called, “above reason,” above our egoistic initial reason and this is how we advance. We need to understand that there is nothing more here than changing our perception of reality, and the fact that we say, above reason, within reason, below reason, this all pertains only to our changing perception of reality. The more we connect among ourselves, accordingly we will feel what it means to emerge from the perception of a broken vessel to the perception of the complete common vessel. This is what he is trying to tell us.

(08:14) You opened the lesson with this beautiful interpretation, so I thought that I feel closer to a friend in the world Kli 15,000 miles from me, than to a friend whom I see every day, or a friend in my ten or a friend from my corporeal life, and more than that, everything you said over the years, now it's taking shape. R. We are on the boundary between feeling everything in our own vessel and feeling everything in the vessel that is comprised of many parts that connect among themselves. They cannot erase the shattering; they can only artificially glue themselves into one vessel. It is as if you had this vessel, this vase, like there were once vases for water, for wine, they would even put grain in there. That vessel was made out of ceramics, so it broke. Now we have to glue them together, these pieces. This is called correcting the vessels.
What does that give us? In order to glue it, we have to overcome it, just like you correct a broken vessel made of clay or ceramics. We have to overcome the gap between the parts that are not connected, we have to connect them. The gap, that part, that glue, to connect the broken pieces, which the Creator broke even before our time, that vessel, we need to glue by ourselves. This is called from the love of people to the love of the Creator, to adhesion, and that adhesion brings us a new vessel, where we feel ourselves the least possible, and as much as possible, we feel the connection between us. We shift the emphasis there, because it is truly a new vessel, a new feeling, a new effort, a new understanding. In that new vessel, where we pay attention to the connection between us and not to our own broken pieces, so in that new vessel, we will feel the Creator. This is why when we attain Him, we attain Him 620 times more; meaning, from what we had before in the system of Adam HaRishon. This is because we are adding to the corrected vessel, that shattering, that gap that was done, that was created by the shattering, and this is how we advance.
In other words, in the end we reveal the broken vessel, our efforts to see it correctly, the connection between us, amongst all of us, when we are incorporated in one another, and how we are all keeping that connection together and, in the end, we discover there, the power of connection which divides into several forms. The power that sustains us, keeps us together, this is number one, which builds us, gives us the mutual feeling that connects us so much that we begin to feel ourselves as one, and within us, as much as we feel ourselves as one, we begin to feel the Creator who is within us. In this way we discover the real reality. From this we begin to learn according to our vessel, as much as we can put it together, in how much we can reveal the Creator, because the revelation of the Creator depends on the relations between us, on the effort between us, on how much we exert to reveal, to make efforts.
This is the whole of the wisdom of Kabbalah. How to reveal the Creator in a vessel that was broken, which we reveal each time as broken, on the left and on the right we reunite it, and again, it's even more broken, meaning with higher precision, we discover that it is still broken, and there we attain a vessel that is even more complete after we assemble it more and more. Likewise in degrees of precision, how to locate more of the broken vessel and how to connect it and make it more complete until we restore the completely complete state. This is what we learn. This is why our whole work is to rise above our egoistic feeling, as much as possible, every time, for each one to be incorporated together and through our efforts we try to come to more and more, and more connection, nearing, and in this way, we discover how broken we are. Every step, more from the left side, and from the right side, and how much we can connect above it, and the gap between the left and the right gives us the feeling of the revelation of the Creator.
4. S. (17:00) On the one hand we reveal the shattering on the other hand we connect between us in the ten. You said that in the gap between the two, the Creator is revealed. What does it mean?
R. The Creator is what we reveal exactly as it is written, come and see. We come from within the darkness from the separation between us, and in the feeling of separation between us, this is what we call Darkness. Then we discover the Creator, the light. It is the light of unity, nearing, support.
S. We connect, we rise above the shattering, and we connect, but what is the addition in this connection called The Creator?
R. The gap between what there is in the breaking and what there is in unity, the gap between them, the results of it, reveals to us the essence of the Creator. Not his essence but the gap between them, between the darkness and the light; because, the Creator is really the equal reason, He formed light and created darkness. This is why, this is how we reveal him, to the extent that he exists. How much he exists in our shattering and how much he exists in our connection, how it is planned to be in the transition between this and that, and how much we need to direct, yearn for his Revelation precisely in this way. Where I want to reveal Him as both the reason for the darkness and the reason for the light, and in the gap between them, in comparing them, I discover the results of it. It’s as if you take pieces of a broken vessel, fragments, take fragments of the broken vessel, let's say I have these, I try to connect them together so in the connection between them, that I discover, I discover the essence of the Creator meaning neither this nor that or even the connection between them but the thought, the initial thought, why it broke. What is it in the breaking that the minute I work on connecting, I discover in it, the force that did it, that planned it, that put it together, that even designed it in advance? I elevate myself to a higher level than I understood before. I elevate myself each time in the quality of my attainment, who is it? Why did he do it, how, and for what?
This is called by your action we know you. This is called by your actions we know you because by performing these actions of connection among us with screens and overcoming, these are the vessels that separate us, by this we will attain the upper force.
S. After connecting, after the shattering we connect with the friends in the ten, we reach a certain level of adhesion, we dissolve in the connection between us. I hear from you that we need to add to it now, a certain scrutiny and focus on the Creator, that this is from Him?
R. We have a lot of work in this, this is only the beginning. It is as if you are getting a ticket to go into a new place, but you do not know what happens there before you come in. Before you have the power, the money, to buy the ticket. Money comes from the word longing in Hebrew, to cover, that is what it is like in Hebrew. Kesef, which is money and silver; means, you cover. It's the extent to which you can cover your will to receive and connect above it, so to that extent you acquire the ability to enter a higher degree and you begin to learn what this money, this force of bestowal, which is called the force of Bina, and the metal itself, silver, is the force of Bina. Hochma is gold, which is Keter, and Bina is silver which is the same word as money, and this is how we advance. It all depends on the extent to which a person acquires vessels of bestowal and realizes them in the connection between us. This is why the more I return during the day to connection with the friends, not physically, not even with words, but just in my heart, in my thoughts, as much as possible, so to that extent I advance towards the correction of the vessels. There is nothing more to do. Out of corporeal actions we will rise some more, we will feel their unity, in spiritual actions and so on and so forth. We should not confuse it of course with all kinds of propensities that Humanity has to build all kinds of societies, communist or socialists societies and so forth, there is totally no connection to that. I sometimes hear such things, but it is incorrect. We are establishing a connection that is above reason, above the human ego, and this is how we advance. We have yet to feel it.
5. S. (26:23) How is faith above reason the common strength of the ten?
R. Yes, you can put it this way, to the extent that a person feels another, this is called the power of faith, and the higher it is above the force of his connection to himself, it is above reason.
6. S. (27:16) In this excerpts’ second paragraph it reads like this, “Moreover one must work and believe that one's work is above reason even though one’s senses tell him that this work is within reason,” could you explain it to us please?
R. When we begin to work and exert in this, we will have that question. When are we working above reason? When are we working within reason? Because it seems to a person that basically he is advancing in the same direction and with the same reason he had before. He does not see the resistance, his collision, but only afterwards does he begin to feel where he is, on this side or on that side? He needs to accumulate many impressions, from his approach which is against the ego and for connection, and then he will see it. I understand that these things are still vague for us, but it will happen, we will come to it pretty soon.

So through our efforts we come to a state where we truly begin to feel that we are dealing with the Creator. That He is giving us, like a schoolteacher, He is giving us an exercise and we have to do it. He gives us another exercise and we have to do it. In this way, we approach him, except we have to hold on to each other because we really are in a class, and He is our teacher. This is how He governs us in order to develop, in us, the tools to sense Him, to feel Him. This is called, “by your actions we know you.” In this way we advance.
S. How do we talk about it in the ten, those states, because in the ten we are not going to talk about states of shattering, we are talking about states of inspiration and connection?
R. We also need to talk a little bit about the states of the shattering, without it, we cannot be directed correctly.
S. How do we go from being a student in class who is trying to be like the teacher, to a teacher, and do actions like the teacher?
R. First you need to learn what is a corrected vessel and what is a broken vessel, and what is the gap between them. To position them one opposite the other, as two lines, and then be incorporated in both, in the middle line. In this way, when you do this, then you can be a teacher at least on this degree.

This is the pleasure that is revealed in the spiritual work. In the work of the Creator. For whom am I doing this? To whom do I want to bring the pleasure from my effort? R. Yes. I do not need to think about the future. I need to think about the current action that is standing before me now, and I want to be attached to it with all my might.

R. I want it to be realized now, and that is it.
12. S. (37:15) Is it that the more we advance in attaining spirituality, faith changes for the spiritual reason?
R. Of course, we come to the reason of the upper.
13. S. (37:42) The Creator is revealed in the gap between the darkness and the light. Is the Creator not revealed in the light?
R. You cannot reveal anything in the light. Imagine that you enter a place that is fully lit without any Shadow. Without any contrast between one place and the other. Inside this evenly lit place you cannot see anything. It simply blinds you and that is it. That is why we, as created beings, can only see in the differences between darkness and light.
14. S. (38.29) How many years is it okay for a person to sleep before an open camera? What should I do if I see this?
R. There are people that can continue like this their whole life, possibly. We had such a friend and all those years he would come to Rabash, and he would sleep. He comes, sits down, and falls asleep. Even before the lesson started more or less and throughout the entire lesson, he would be asleep. At the end of the lesson he would get up and go. He would participate with us in all the actions, the meals. As a friend he was great, but he was asleep the whole time. R. You try to come to what you feel, which is to be closer to the friend. Then you will see what is going on, I cannot dictate it to you and explain these things to you. You have to yearn to feel them closer to you, these states, and other than that, these states would be closer to you emotionally. From your feeling to your intellect, first you feel, then you begin to understand what is happening. This is the spiritual development.
16. S. (41:34) It is written at the end of the excerpt that everything a person believes within reason, becomes above reason. Everything he thought was above reason, becomes within reason. So my question is this, is this process, first of all, how do we come to it in the ten? It is as if it is already the upper intellect, so what is it in? R. Of course everything that is happening the Creator does. We need to do what is written and be responsible. That is it. Do as much as possible, please try to do it. S. It sometimes feels like the Creator is blocking this process. He gives me a feeling of difficulty to connect.
R. You have to keep going, despite that. There is no question that the Creator is tripping you, is not letting you advance, so you would learn both from the left and from the right, how to advance. So he needs to walk on the left and on the right. Ahead of you and against you, and that is how we are doing the actions. After a few actions we begin to understand that just like we are teaching kids and we place obstacles before them. How can it be that the beloved Father places obstacles before his child? Specifically, out of love for the child, wanting him to grow up. So, there is Hochma and there is Bina. The higher degree is called the Creator and we are the created beings relative to it, so let us rise.
S. In this process, when it happens, there is something very interesting. It is as if reason becomes feeling and the feeling becomes reason. It is as if they mix, you kind of lose the difference between them.
R. It is true it changes each time, each time we receive an ascent to a higher degree, and what was faith becomes reason and we have a new degree of faith, and that is how we rise. In faith above reason. That is how we advance.
17. S. (45:50) I want to be the craftsman you mentioned before. Should I remain silent, or should I awaken the ten with these questions? Because sometimes the ten is a little uncomfortable with my questions.
R. It is true, I agree with them. You have to think not according to your own intellect, what is good for the ten, but rather according to the general mind. According to the Creator, according to love, not according to your ego. How do you awaken the ten? Try to awaken the love and then approach the ten. Not from within the ego. 18. S. (47:08) What can one do to convey to his friends the new stage he has reached, when he advances in faith above reason?
R. We should not do these things. We should only awaken the friends, and not pass degrees to one another. Only awaken them towards more and more bestowal between us.
19. S. (47:58) What are the right actions, between our meetings, through which we can support each other in our efforts towards faith above reason?
R. Only the examples we can give to one another. Each one towards his ten. How devoted he is to the ten, and to do these things as much as possible, through example. Meaning, emotionally. That is it. Set examples for how we study, how we talk, how we wish to get to know the material, the connection between us, how to respect the group, our opportunity, this is what we need.
20. S. (49:05) It is written that when a person is rewarded with adhesion with the Creator, the Shechina, Divinity tells him that the fact that he had to be kind of a fool before, it was not because of that, it was because he had no heart. What does it mean that he had no heart?
R. Being heartless means that I cannot activate the heart, maybe I want to activate it but I cannot activate my heart and so it turns out that I need to pray, to ask the Creator to give me some excitement and some feeling in the heart towards the friends. It is easier for men so this is mainly for women. I need to ask the Creator to give me a correct feeling towards the friends and for us to feel that only in the close relationship between us, we can birth our next spiritual degree.
21. S. (50:21) Why is it necessary for a person who came to a state of above reason and equivalence of form but afterwards he has to start over and think that he is working above reason. So should he keep this understanding that equivalence of form constantly causes him to work above reason or should he look for another level of above reason?
R. I constantly have to look for a new level of being above reason meaning I trust nothing except for faith. I can be in bestowal, I can have a tendency towards bestowing towards the friend and there I find my reason, my spiritual reason. I begin to feel specifically in this way, in this tendency, in this vessel, I begin to feel How we are going back to being like the vessel of Adam HaRishon.
22. S. (51:28) Why do I feel that some of the friends closer than others, is it correct to feel those differences?
R. Yes, no one is like the other, no two are alike and here we are in a society where everyone is very different according to their character, their external expression, their corporeal expression. So no two are alike and I always see the others according to how convenient they are to my ego, accordingly I need to try and see how we need to be equal in my eyes. There is no difference between them but to be as one man in one heart, means that although he appears to me in different ways, according to the other, I accept them as soul mates, as parts of me, as parts of my soul. Like it or not, all of us in the end, we discover that all of humanity including the parts that I hate the most, they are all parts of my soul. S. Can you explain what the left line is?
R. It is not so important to us, and I am afraid it will confuse us, generally speaking the left line is criticism and the right line is mercy or grace.
27. S. (59:39) How do the qualities of the friend in the ten help us remain on the middle line?
R. Helps us see the middle line when I see the friends both in the left and on the right and I arrange my adhesion to them in faith above reason. Meaning they have eyes but cannot see and I wish to be adhered to them despite the negative forms that I see and that is how I advance. Meaning the more I advance, the more I see them negatively in my eyes like in the students of Rabbi Shimon who wanted to kill one another and that is how we can see what is ahead of us and before us. This is new walking in faith above reason, love covers all transgressions.

R. Yes.
