Part 2:

Baal HaSulam. Peace in the World (Pain vs. Pleasure in Self-Reception)

Reading Peace in the World, heading Pain vs Pleasure in Self-Reception (00:10)

1. S. (04:44) I don't see that everyone understands what he writes here, let’s read again.

Reading again, item number 21 (04:53)

1.S. (08:40) He is describing a situation where a person needs to go through a psychological process because he is already producing to the rest of the world, he needs to be conscious of this process and this calculation of self love?

R. So you want this transition to also be egoistic.

S. I don't want to. He says that the person needs to produce it to the whole world anyhow but he uses it for himself, so he just needs to go through a psychological process to understand it and only then can he begin to enjoy the process.

R. Correct.

S. How do we do it because my nature is for himself, it wants it for itself. it makes a calculation here, 60% suffering in this whole process, so how despite the suffering how do we continue with it? Do we want to suffer, no.

R. He lies to himself. That he imagines that he does it to himself.

S. So how do we get rid of it, because all of humanity suffers? What should happen for this inversion to happen?

R. So our goal is to save Humanity?

S. Our goal is to go through the process on ourselves in order to bring it to all of humanity. It is a psychological process that we all need to go through, that's what he says here in this excerpt. We're not talking about spirituality now, even in a simple psychological process.

R. Yes. Meaning, that we will know during our life we will know that we are doing the work in vain.

S. Yes.

R. So, will it be better? Would it be easier for us?

S. Only to bring Humanity to the realization that if they will work outwards, even only with their intention, this whole system will change.

R. This is what The Wisdom of Kabbalah is saying.

S. But he is describing it psychologically here?

R. Ok, psychological.

S. So we need to convince the public psychologically.

R. Ok. Try and see how they will understand it.

S. It's impossible.

R. Why is it impossible?

S. becouse there’s not even a tiny bit of recognition that we’re taking for ourselves, no understanding that we are receiving for ourselves. I'm talking about outside, when you talk  to people they don't understand what you're saying?

R. Yes, you are right. What will we do?

2. S. (11:40) It says here, he wants to enjoy himself with all hearts desires, Etc. He wants to take pleasure, that's clear he wants to enjoy himself. And in the last paragraph he says, if the direction would change from self reception to bestowal then the individual will enjoy everything that he produces here without much pain. I understand wanting to enjoy.

R. This is what I will to receive.

S. Right, I understand that, but what is written at the end I don't understand.

R. This is all a private calculation, as one works for oneself. But in the global calculation the individual produces more than he receives for his own pleasure and substance. Thus, if the direction were to change from self-reception to bestowal, the individual would enjoy the entire produce he produced without much pain. So what do you ask?

S. We begin with wanting to enjoy, that is our nature. So what is the alternative?

R. There is no alternative. He is telling you that here you are still working for others, for everyone: If the direction would change from self-reception to bestowal then the individual would enjoy the entire produce he produces without much change. So what changes? The intention changes, the intention that he enjoys from giving pleasure to everyone else, and before? Before he was suffering from having to bestow to others; from giving pleasure to others.

S. Is there pleasure in it?

R. There is pleasure in it of course.

S. What is the pleasure?

R. The pleasure is that he fulfills others; that in that he identifies with the Creator.

3. S. (14:20) Basically he's saying in that paragraph, he says the problem is the produce, how much he produces, and the solution that everyone will have enough. But we know that the problem is the will to receive that constantly grows and grows, the production is not the problem. So what is the contradiction here? I don't understand why he’s giving this final solution of the output being enough for everybody, but that is not the root of the problem?

R. Because the person will not want to fill his will to receive. He will not want to fill his will to receive because he will see in advance how this action is unending and it will never fill him; it empties him, if anything.

4. S. (15:30) I'm also trying to understand the excerpt, he begins by saying that the whole difficulty is by changing our nature and at first glance it seems that it is something that is against our nature, something that is above human nature, then all of a sudden no, it's just a psychological matter, a psychological change. What is the thing that turns this inconceivable impossible thing that without the help of the upper force we're stuck and can't get out of it, into some conceptual change that is possible?

R. If we would agree, without the Creator that does not exist, yeah. If we would agree to reach such actions; that everyone cares for everyone else, what would be bad?

S. Because there is a calculation that a person makes, how much pleasure and suffering he gets and he will always be in a deficit.

R. Why in a deficit?

S. Because the pleasure is always less than the efforts he makes, that's what he says here, I have 20% pleasure and 80% suffering.

R. If we are not in mutual support.

S. Right, so it says the solution is to shift from personnel calculation to the general calculation, so if I calculate for all of humanity, for the general calculation, then humanity too in sufferning, humanity too is in deficit.

R. Why in a deficit?

S. Because if you look again from the perspective where you are still havnt changed you nature and you in the will to receive which is impossible, it is above nature. But you shift from a personal calculation to a general calculatation, meaning I don't look only at my pleasure and suffering but the pleasure of suffering of humanity, still here from here from this perspective perspective Humanity suffering more than it is in pleasure?

R. But that is because it is still not in a general consensus.

S. So basically the fact that it seems at first glance that it is above nature, then it's a shift it's only a psychological shift, is it only a matter of agreeing, accepting it?

R. Yes.

5. S. (18:16) The psychological change that you talked about is the intention. I mean if I change the intention that is the whole psychological change, but I don't understand why by changing the intention gives me more pleasure, I do not see pleasure in it?

R. Why? If you are connected to everyone and you are all somewhat implementing ‘as one man in one heart’, why is it called that you don’t have pleasure?

S. What am I doing this? What would I get out of it?

R. We will all get something out of it.

S. If for example I am a very wealthy man I have a lot of money why should I give it, I have it already, why should I give it to everyone?

R. In such a case you are correct, maybe. yes?

S. So how do I change my intention, the intention should have the bigger support here, a higher support here?

R. No, you will not be able to hold on like that.

S. So, why is it not clear? Because it is psychological change and it seems to me that, I'm not sure if Baal HaSulam says something it is true, but according to what I understand on my level, in order to change this intention I need to get a greater reward?

R. No. If it is accepted by the majority, you will switch your intention without any problem.

Without any effort. Without any effort.

6. S. (20:20) We see that Humanity often tries to apply this psychological change to a certain extent, everyone has one goal and we can all enjoy being in brotherhood together in mutual guarantee together in one goal, then everyone enjoys it. But then the Creator interferes, He intervenes and awakens hatred between them, disagreements, suddenly they don't want the other to enjoy. If you take out one of my eyes and in return I'll take out two of the neighbor’s eyes, I will enjoy it. So there is like a force from above that does not allow such states to remain?

R. So, what is the question?

S. Why does the Creator not want us to remain in that state, what more does He need? Let's say this group that did it, why can't it stay this way? Why doesn't He want it, why does He intervene and add the evil inclination into it?

R. Through the work with the evil inclination; we can reach His degree.

S. So there's not enough pleasure in that state? the Creator wants to give more pleasure and that is why He does it?

R. Of course. We then reach infinite unlimited pleasure.

S. So we have to make that psychological shift at every level so there's a constant addition here of will to receive.

R. Yes.

7. S. (22:17) When I read the article I keep getting the thought, how do we change from 20% to 80% pleasure in life?

R. Very well you are smart, and..

S. How do we do it? For example we study The Wisdom of Kabbalah, how can I change my life and everybody else's life? How do we change it into 80% pleasure and what pleasure are we looking for here?

R. We are looking for pleasure, fulfillment. It doesn't matter what fulfillment, as long as it is complete and eternal. And these two components, complete and eternal; they bring us to a state where we have to reach, we have to arrive at the very things that the Torah demands of us, otherwise it will not hold on. That’s all.

S. And the changes that are required don’t come, there’s a pleasure that I feel from physical actions that I do, but internally it does not feel that there is any pleasure in giving to others.

So why is it like that? How do I come to a state that I receive pleasure in giving to others?

R. Why is there no such thing that a person receives pleasures in giving to others?

S. Yes.

R. Only to the extent that you feel that those people belong to you; the group, your friends, your children, otherwise no. Because you do not have a natural connection. By attracting the light that reforms we begin to feel that we all belong to the same system and therefore we do not have any challenge to bestow to one another, and to enter the general, mutual field of pleasure.

8. S. (25:22) He does something very interesting here, he says that in the general balance you always have seemingly 100% work but you have vessels of pleasure in only part of it, and in the other part you have to develop new vessels, vessels of bestowal, then in them you can develop pleasure. In other words, if we do not make this transition we’ll never be able to develop 100% pleasure from all the effort?

R. Correct.

S. So the vessels of bestowal are what we need to build between us.

R. We have to build the opposite vessels of what we have. You are correct.

9. S. (26:25) What about rich people do they enjoy more than those that suffer? Because Baal HaSulam writes that we should not relate to them?

R. I did not understand?

S. Wealthy people enjoy more or do they suffer?

R. Wealthy people; they enjoy more and they suffer more. Anyone who expands his possessions has the ability in both directions, to be in both pleasure and suffering, or both.

S. So what’s more? Baal HaSulam writes that usually these people suffer more?

R. That I do not know. I have not reached it.

10. S. (27:38) The whole article he spreads the structure of society, explains why there's no peace, why they're conflicts, and why there will always be people that are dissatisfied. He describes human nature and in the end he makes this sharp turn and says that if you put it all aside and we develop vessels of bestowal everything will be fine. It is as if he puts aside everything that he said in the beginning, this whole explanation about human nature, that connection is what I am missing. How do we connect between human nature, that one wants this that, and then he says wait a minute, ignore your nature and focus on what I am pointing to at the end the vessel of bestowal.

R. Because through that you solve all of the problems, why do you need to be every time in those personal matters. If you rise above them you do not have any problems you are including in order to bestow.

S. So his answer to each one of those natures the quick and the week, those that pursue truth and those that pursue peace, he tells them you will not have any peace and quiet until you stop because there's abundance of everything, but you do not feel it.

R. Yes.

S. The other thing is that this whole topic, I assume deliberately doesn't mention that the Creator, but in the end we do have to get this power from an external force?

R. Of course without you receiving the force of bestowal from the Creator how will you be able to move anything.

S. In other words even though he says it's a psychological change, but you are already producing more than you can enjoy to make this change in the end.

R There's no other way.

11. S. (29:55) I don't really want to ask about this article because of this actually, because this article was sealed… I want to ask about one sentence you said in in lesson that really stings me and I'm sure many other friends, because we do exert, but do not demand enough. We are the ones that received the privilege. He gave us the point in the heart, he brought us to attend a lesson, to the Rav, but we do not demand enough. A few days ago we were facing a few days where we have the opportunity. How do we demand enough?

R. Make a questionnaire of the group and see how can we demand of the Creator to give us finally what we are lacking in order to reach the purpose of creation. To allow us to understand to feel what is lacking, how to turn to, to whom to turn. Everything we can receive from Him. There is no problem just so you know.

12. S. (31:49) In the lesson you said that you we are obligated in the mutual guarantee according to our degree. So based on this article, how can we reconcile all the parts that are being talked about here. If everyone can only act according to how the light is influencing them towards our development?

R. This is enough. This is enough. Rather what do you ask? For me to be like the Creator from the beginning? Everyone who is acting is acting out of how much they feel and how much the influence of the Creator is awakened in him and this is enough for us to receive together and accordingly to draw from the Creator the general Iight that reforms.

S. Yes, that we understand but the article seems to have parts for both sides of the vessel, both the Rosh and the Guf. Who has what responsibility over who or how do you bring these two parts together so that it becomes one vessel?

R. They connect if we aim them at a single goal. If we aim them towards a single goal then they connect.

S. Today we enter a very special holiday and it is a global holiday both for world vessel and the friends in Israel. And we want to find out what you feel about our development and our advancement so far, because this is the most important Shavuot we have ever had since Bnei Baruch came together. So we want to ask you what you feel about how prepared we are for this method and how prepared we are for this reception and what would you recommend in terms of how we should come into this special holiday moving forward.

R. That is a good question. We will come tomorrow morning and we will discuss it. Also, throughout these days we are entering the study, the reading, the prayer. I think we have in front of us all the opportunities and all the friends that I see in front of me are also in the same questions, in the same state both men and women. We need to demand of ourselves connection and addressing the Creator. There is no bigger pleasure for the Creator other than us demanding from him. This is our problem, this is our work to connect between us and to address to turn to the Creator.

S. So what do we take out of this lesson?

R. That we need to be closer, more aimed towards the goal and to feel one another close.
