Part 1:

Rabash. Article No. 9, 1990. What Is, “A Ladder Is Set on the Earth, and Its Top Reaches Heaven,” in the Work?

Reading Article. (00:32) “The Zohar says, “‘And behold, a ladder was set up on the Earth’..”

1. S. (35:15) By being present in the lesson every day, does that, we were given the secrets and advice that will allow us to raise the divinity from the dust?

R. Yes, each day we add and add and add to our requests, to our demands, to what we want. How we turn to the Creator, it’s all accumulated more and more until we come to..

S. In the lessons with you we receive like instructions of how to behave in the ten to reach the Creator?

R. Yes, what, didn't you hear this from me? We learned it and read it in the articles of Baal HaSulam and Rabash.

2. S. (36:53) What is a prayer of every mouth?

R. It is that every mouth that wants to adhere to the Creator can say that prayer, can say that prayer. It is the general deficiency that awakens and is revealed through the general Malchut.

3. S. (37:37) It says in the article that most important for the person is to reach faith in the greatness of the Creator. Why is it not written that it’s important for the whole group as an individual can't do it?

R. Because for a person each person has to see how he obtains faith in the Creator. Of course it’s also important to the group. The group has to yearn for such kind conditions where each one receives the necessary amount of faith in the Creator that he needs.

4. S. (38:30) Partial faith and complete faith, that’s a force that is shaped according to the connection between us or is it private providence of each friend?

R. It is the personal attainment of each friend but it grows and is built in the group.

S. Can we say that when we ask of the Creator for spiritual solutions to corporeal problems that is to be dependent on the Creator and this prayer is a correction?

R. You can say that partially, yes, partially, yes.

5. S. (39:22) How can we build a ladder in the ten toward Kedusha?

R. Through connection between us. Through connection between us and joint study of what we learn, by this we are incorporated in the lesson.

6. S. (39:55) In the beginning of the text it talks about the angels of God that ascend and descend up the ladder and then he says that one is given from above what is thought to be good for him. Who are these angels and how do they influence our lives in Malchut?

R. Angels are parts of Malchut this is why they are called by that name and according to our work they ascend or descend. Through their ascents and descents we are constantly in changing states and through that we begin to understand where we are and what can influence us and how we can influence the general Malchut.

7. S. (41:11) How does the fear of the Creator and the spiritual degrees connect, are they related?

R. They're connected. The fear of the Creator and the spiritual degrees are connected and the closer we are to the Creator the more fear there is in us. Accordingly, the connection, our prayer, our plea to the Creator, the sense of dependence on Him grows.

S. You can say that spiritual degrees are the extent to which we see the Creator in everything, that's how we rise up the degrees?

R. Yes.

8. S. (42:09) It says in the text that Zeir Anpin is the meaning of bestowal and reward and punishment. What does it mean?

R. We advance and in general feel that we are changing only through reward and punishment. This comes to us from the degree of Zeir Anpin and this is how we feel ourselves ascending or descending but both actually work toward our benefit; that we feel changes and through them we constantly, basically grow.

9. S. (43:06) How will we come to a state where the world is filled with the quality of the Creator and achieves complete redemption and attainment?

R. Well, this is through our work together when we connect together and then we become more and more incorporated in the general Malchut. We begin to feel the changes in it and this gives us this feeling, it gives us the knowledge about all of reality.

10. S. (44:22) You said a few times that we are included in the general Malchut or we influence it. What is the Malchut that we are working with?

R. How should we put it? This is the place from which we are born, emerge, the place from which we begin to develop.

S. But what is it? Is it a general desire or the connection of our group?

R. It is our common desire, it's the connection between us, it is our spiritual mother.

S. Is it our connection in the Ten or is it the whole world?

R. It is both. It depends on what degree we’re in.

S. What should we start from so that we come closer?

R. We have to start from the connection between us that’s obvious, the connection between us.

S. What's the difference between the general Malchut and our feeling in the Ten let's say?

R. When we feel the general Malchut we feel the common general creation, what state it is in and how it should be, how it should be in order to approach the Creator.

S. For instance, to direct myself to the general Malchut, how should I work in the Ten?

R. You need to come closer to the friends, there’s nothing else. To the extent of your closeness to the friends you will feel, you will receive from them more and more awakenings of different kinds.

11. S. (46:56) In the article it says that after the soul equalizes its form with the Creator, it knows the thoughts that it separated from once again?

R. The thoughts of the Creator are nature's laws.

12. S. (47:22) What is called a sin of the people of Israel and what's a sin from the Nations of the world?

R. Both egoism, except the egoism of the people of Israel is the central, basic one, fundamental one and the egoism of the Nations of the world is much smaller. It's not that mutually dependent.

13. S. (48:09) According to what we've learned from the article so far, how to learn the language of the Creator?

R. The closer you come to the friends, through it you will begin to feel what the Creator is telling you.

14. S. (49:11) About the answer to the friends, we are influenced by the angels in order to change our states?

R. Yes.

15. S. (49:40) How can a person be certain that he’s working not to receive but only to be under the rule of the Creator?

R. Only if he is at the center of a Ten. He has no possibility to direct himself, to aim himself otherwise, only adhesion with the Ten.

16. S. (50:37) It is said that the Creator created the will to receive that is the basis, the foundation of creation. On it we have to build this ladder, the power of faith and importance of the Creator. I have this inner fear that the foundation that exists within the created beings, how do you defeat it? How do you build the power of faith as strong as the will to receive that is strong in us?

R. Pray, to pray.

S. Will that be enough to build..?

R. This is enough for any incident because this is an interest to the Creator.

S. He creates the other nature as we know.

R. Yes.

17. S. (51:57) What does it mean that actions that were done above are seen below and how does that influence our general fate?

R. That's how it works. I don't have anything to say, it just works this way. We have to discover it and see and then we’ll learn how to use it.

18. S. (52:48) Now we have difficult states between us. We have a little bit of a descent in the Ten and we don't know what to do. I told the friends we can achieve a connection like the Ten of Rashbi. Rav, give us a direction, what demand do we need to raise in order to strengthen ourselves. What should the friends do?

R. Ask the Creator to connect them, to connect between you. That you will hug and embrace each other like that and ask the Creator to make the connection happen, that's what we need to do.

19. S. (53:53) Here it says that when the answer comes from above it tells us what we are really asking and then the body resists with all its might. I am asking you, is this the moment when we have to decide if we choose the Creator with all our might and leave this body which resists us?

R. If we can do so, the better. Of course that's best.

20. S. (54:38) He writes here that when we have partial faith, that there is partial faith and complete faith. What is partial faith?

R. Well, if it's not complete it is called partial. Meaning it doesn't cover all the discernments that arise.

S. How can we call it faith if it’s incomplete?

R. I don't see, what’s your question?

S. Either there is faith or there isn't. I don't understand.

R. There is complete faith and incomplete faith.

S. How do we shift from partial or incomplete faith to complete faith?

R. By overcoming.

S. It says that in the work of faith there are many measures but it gives only two examples not many. Are there many more?

R. This I don't know why it doesn't give more. Probably we don't need that for now.

21. S. (55:52) We all remember the story you told in the book 'Always with Me', when you were searching for the ladder and your joy when you found it. How do we acquire it?

R. We’ll talk about that separately many more times. We acquire this ladder by wanting to find this connection between us and then we look for how to realize the connection and then we find the ladder.

22. S. (56:49) I have this inner outcry. How do we overcome these partitions, is it possible to make an effort? What should we do, how should we pray because I heard we can do it in a minute but the feeling is that it should take years to get closer. What should we do, how should we pray, what are we missing?

R. Your words which you think that you lack in order to really be glued to your friend like this solid Ten and with the Creator, what you lack for that. On the other hand, what you have in your ego which in principle you’d like to get rid of in order to hug all the friends.

S. But there is really hatred for this ego, you see how incapable you are. Is this the right approach?

R. Excellent, this means you've got what to ask for.

23. S. (58:24) Malchut, is it a connection of the deficiencies of the individual or a connection of deficiencies in the Ten?

R. In the Ten.

S. When Malchut is created in the Ten, how is the connection between it and the upper one expressed? How is this structure of connection between deficiencies in the Ten and the force that raises it, how is it created?

R. You begin connecting precisely through the common deficiencies and then they become rather than deficiencies, they become connection.

24. S. (59:22) My question is about the angels with regards to the ladder. They are our contact with the Creator?

R. Yes.

S. Do the angels guard us from the evil inclination?

R. That too. There are good angels and there are angels that are not so good, each one according to its role.

25. S. (01:00:24) If someone sees that he's praying in order to bestow upon the Creator but he sees that the body resists it, in what state is that person in?

R. He’s in a bad state in that the body resists advancing to the Creator. On the other hand he sees this state, which is already good because now he needs to pray to the Creator to raise him from that state.

26. S. (01:01:30) The article said Malchut is faith and faith is fear. How do we consistently pray from the state of faith and fear for the Creator to hear our prayer?

R. Only by a correct, good connection with the group, the person can receive each time more and more additions of the correct deficiency with which he can pray.

27. S. (01:02:31) When we are about to pray, can we ask the Creator to give us faith and fear which is the greatness of the Creator, to cancel all our thoughts about ourselves so that we can bring unification between all the parts of creation so that the Creator could end the war between us? Should this be our attitude when we go to the altar for prayer?

R. Yes, yes. We want the Creator to be that force, that glue that glues us together. Then we'll be able to pray in His name.

28. S. (01:03:32) There is no organ or desire that wants to ask to work entirely for the Creator, so with what desire does the Creator give a person the strength to pray with all his heart?

R. What He gives, that's what you use.

29. S. (01:04:03) How can we annul before the Creator without losing the powers in our identity, in the world that is entirely the evil inclination?

R. If I'm connected to my friends and I turn to the Creator, everything settles into the most correct place.

30. S. (01:04:48) What does it mean that I have to discover that I'm not deceiving the Creator? Here concerning the prayer he says that only after the prayer which is ostensively a real prayer I have to discover that I’m not deceiving the Creator. What does it mean?

R. That you discover yourself, you see into the depth of your heart and then you’ll see whether you’re deceiving or not.

S. In other words I have to come to complete faith and know in advance that the Creator gives the prayer, raises the prayer?

R. Basically yes, yeah.

31. S. (01:05:43) Here it says that their God is asleep and it says that if they increase the left side they see the eyes and then it says that the righteous, to them he's not asleep, to the wicked he is asleep. Then it says that the situation is influenced by the actions of the lower ones. My question is different: we learn that the system is in constant movement and here it says that it’s at rest. Instead of the rest of the upper one do we feel suffering?

R. It's all discussed with respect to us. If you feel that nothing’s changing then you have nothing to pray for, that's it. Then you have a very hard time finding the deficiency.

S. In what state is the suffering felt?

R. What state? Whatever state you’re in.

32. S. (01:06:52) You said before that we change the reward and punishment through ZA and this is how we grow. The question is: what does a friend do if he doesn't feel reward and punishment? Another day goes by, another day goes by, what should he do?

R. To pray that he's not feeling and that the Creator will give him a feeling.

33. S. (01:07:30) What I don't understand exactly is when we improve our actions towards the Creator as more righteous actions in the ten, the ladder moves up. What does it mean moving up the ladder? Is there a difference between moving the ladder, that the ladder moves up and down and moving up the ladder itself in the actions in the ten?

R. Yes of course, it's all in respect to us. It's not that the ladder itself has any freedom of movement or decision, it's all us, it's all us.

34. S. (01:08:24) How can we improve the power of the prayer so that it is accepted?

R. By connection between the friends.

35. S. (01:08:48) I heard you just say that a person who is connected to the group well can pray all the time because he gets new deficiencies from the group all the time but we know that there are ascents and descents in the work. How should a descent look in such a situation?

R. That a person goes into a bit of denseness and some bluntness of the senses, distancing from the friends. These are symptoms of a descent, there's more of course.

S. When that happens how do you fight it?

R. Also by connection. The safest and most useful is the connection.
