Part 2: TES Lesson With RABASH

Baal HaSulam. "Study of the Ten Sefirot" (TES). Vol. 2. Part 5. #4

Reader: We will learn from a lesson on The study of the Ten Sefirot with Rabash, part 5, item 4.

RABASH (Source Text/Commentary): (00:05) So, four. While the branches also wanted illumination and to suckle from the roots, then the male and female from the vessel Keter of the upper ones, that learn from the record of clothing and record of coarseness, they both rise above. Where do they stand? Below the Keter that ascended below the Malchut of Rosh. Meaning the Malchut of Rosh and then the Keter, the records extended from the light of Keter, and from there they receive. Those records are called male and female of the vessel of Keter, their illumination from it, after they received all their needs, then the Keter of the branches that always stands there in Malchut of Rosh, below Malchut of Rosh, now becomes their face towards them, towards the roots in the posterior of the Keter against the male and female, as the mentioned records. This reason is that they must rise up, that these vessels of Akudim are the first vessels that were emanated. No vessels were emanated above them, since the light there is enormous, and the vessels cannot exist there. Hence, if the upper light had been extended down to their place when they are in their vessels, the vessels would have been annulled. That's why it was necessary that the only lights of ZON in the vessel of Keter would rise up. What's written here? He explains why ZON, the records rise up. He explains, those vessels, they are the first vessels that were emanated. No vessels were emanated above them, since the light there is enormous, and the vessels could not exist there. Hence, if the upper light had been extended down, what upper light are we talking about now? To their place, when they are in their vessels, the vessels would have been annulled. Thus, it was necessary that only the lights of ZON in the vessel of Keter would rise up. What's he saying here?

RABASH (Source Text/Commentary): (04:27) So, number four. The male and the female in the vessel of Keter of the upper branches ascend there. Who is the male and female? They are the record of Keter, called male. With the record of phase three called female, contained in the screen that rose and departed from the first expansion, from the Guf of Galgalta called Rosh of Galgalta, although phase four did not leave a record, we learned that the last phase was lost. Where then did the record of the level of Keter come from? Indeed, each phase consists of two kinds of records. There is a record of extension which belongs to the bottom phase of the degree. We say it's until here. The light illuminates from there and below. There's a screen. It doesn't want to receive anymore. That's called a record of extension. And there is a phase of the record of clothing of the light which belongs to the upper phase in the level of the degree. Meaning the light of Yechida or Keter would illuminate in the vessel of Keter. And the light of Nefesh in the degree would illuminate in the vessel of Malchut. Then she extends a degree that is the most coarse. But where does that degree illuminate? Specifically in the vessel of Keter. That's where the more refined light can illuminate. Maybe it's a more refined light in a more refined vessel. That's why it wants to illuminate. What is Malchut? She extends the light. Where does the light of Yechida illuminate? In the vessel of Keter, which is refined from coarseness. How could it extend anything? That's why he says that we relate to this most refined light, that it extended the light to the most coarse. That's what he says here. If there is a phase of a record of clothing of the light which belongs to the upper phase in the level of the degree. As we learned, they all came to the vessel of Keter. These two records are as male and female. The record of clothing is in the phase of male in the record, and the record of the extension is the phase of the female in the record. Know that only the phase of the female in the record of phase four, which belongs to Malchut disappeared. She is the one extending the light that makes the screen. That, she does not have anymore. But the phase of the male of the record that belongs to Keter remained, and it is contained in the screen that rose to Malchut of the Rosh. Is that clear till now? So, they both ascend, those two records.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (09:11) Which records?

RABASH (Source Text/Commentary): (09:21) Both records, both male and female in the vessel of Keter, and the upper branches rise upward under the Keter, which rose under Malchut of the roots, and there receive their illumination from him. There they receive the illumination from him. Inner light. Both rise upward, etc., and there receive their illumination from him. The ascent is done, we learned, through the refinement of the screen in the Tabur of the first expansion, Partzuf Galgalta, that was refined from phase four until it becomes as refined as the Emanator. Meaning, the Malchut of the Rosh is considered the coarseness from below upward that she won't receive since equivalence of form unites the spirituals into one. Because the equivalence of form unites the spirituals into one, and since the screen of the Guf becomes as refined as the screen of the Rosh, it is considered that it rises and unites with it into one place. And since the screen of the Guf becomes as refined because the equivalence of form unites the spirituals into one, and since the screen of the Guf becomes as refined as the screen of the Rosh, it is considered that it rose and united with it into one. And since the screen of the Guf has become as refined as the screen of the Rosh, it is considered that it rose and united with it in its place into one. It is known that there is no departure in the Rosh whatsoever. Rather, the screen that is there in the Rosh is always in a never-ending coupling with the upper light. And therefore, the screen of Tabur too, which rose there, is incorporated with it in its coupling, and receives together with it from the upper light. And it is said that they both rise under Malchut of the Rosh. And there they receive their illumination from him. Meaning, by being incorporated with the upper coupling that is there. So, what does it mean here, both rise? It means the world, equivalence of form receiving their illumination from Him by being incorporated in the screen of coarseness of the Rosh. Screen of coarseness of the Rosh, meaning a never-ending coupling, and it never departs. You're asking what is Keter of the Rosh.

Student: No, not Keter of the Rosh.

RABASH: Okay, Keter of the Guf. He explains to us that there are no places there. There are no places there. Only above and below is called above in importance, below in importance. So, we learned previously that Malchut of the Rosh expanded from her and within her into Ten Sefirot, and the level of Keter emerged. Then Malchut of the Rosh is above, and Keter of the Guf is below her. It is a branch of Malchut of the Rosh. Clear?

RABASH: (14:12) Now, now he's telling us that after the refinement of the screen, the light departs and goes up. At what place does it stand if we are above, the records are below, the records? It rises up, comes out from the vessel of Keter and rises to the Emanator. So, he's telling you he stands below the Emanator. What does it mean below the Emanator, under the Emanator? Since it is a branch of Malchut, what does that Keter awaken? Below Malchut, not above Malchut. What is the reason? There are no places. There's only a relation. Who is more important? You find that first there is Malchut of the Rosh there. Sometimes underneath it the light of Keter that rose and now the records that remained from that Keter rise. So, where should the records stand? Below Keter. What does it mean below? Below its degree. As he says, that's what he says here. Each one stands under that degree. But that vessel, you therefore find that the lower one, everything it receives must go through that light of Keter. And by that, they become two. We will learn it later. Again, you find that the records that rose, the screen and the records that rose up to the Rosh. Previously we learned in particular. Now we're speaking in general, without the details. When it rises to the Rosh, since there is a coupling in the Rosh there on the screen in the Rosh, it does not take any change. Therefore, in Malchut of the Rosh, they receive there, they receive there what he explains. What did they receive? We'll see later.

Student: Previously he said…

Rabash: Look, accordingly, look at the line where it says, therefore, the screen that rose there too to the Rosh is incorporated with it, with the screen of the Rosh, also in the coupling of the Rosh and together with it receives of the upper light. As it is said, that both rise under Malchut and receive there their illumination from him. Meaning by being incorporated with the upper coupling that is in Malchut. We must always remember that there is general and there is particular. Sometimes we speak of the particulars, the details, and we get confused. That's why he speaks generally, so we don't get confused. The minute he begins to speak about details, we get confused. That's why he speaks of the Rosh. Rosh means the Keter rises to the Rosh, the screen with the records rose to the Rosh, everything went up to the Rosh. Once he gives details in the Rosh, how it's, what it's like there, above and below in importance, we get confused. This is why now you understand why he always speaks in general and not in particular, so we don't get confused.

RABASH (Source Text/Commentary): (18:10) What's written above? Item four. After they received sufficiently, meaning until they become worthy of expansion with their illumination that they received to their place in the Guf from the records with the screen, then look what's written above. Then the Keter of the branches, which always stands there, that Keter now turns its face from them upwards towards the roots and his back towards the male, the above mentioned male and female. What is written here? What is he saying? Let's look below in opening, Inner Light. Now turns his face upwards, meaning because the coupling that pertains to the light of Keter stops, and then its illumination stops from expanding to the ZON that is under it. This is considered that his back is opposite ZON, because prevention of the light is called posterior. What is written here? The coupling that pertains to the light of Keter has stopped, and then its illumination stops expanding to the ZON which is below it. This is called his back, his posterior facing ZON, because prevention of illumination is called posterior. And the reason for the cessation of his illumination will be explained below. It is because the coupling reached the Nukva that is incorporated in the record. She is coarseness of phase three, which extends only the level of Hochma of the upper roots, and not from Keter of the roots. Therefore, the light of Keter below Malchut no longer receives light for ZON, for the screen from the record that is below it. After the coupling of phase four is done, then the male and female promptly expand to the Guf, to the vessel of Keter that is there, as written below. And the second expansion of Akudim takes place, the second expansion of Akudim, Partzuf AB.

Student: There's a place where it's written…

RABASH (Source Text/Commentary): (21:45) Later, later, later. He explains, after they received sufficiently, look above. Then Keter of the branches, which always stands there, now turns his face from them upwards to the roots, and his back facing the above-mentioned male and female. So, we need to know what it means, received sufficiently, all that they need. Two, what does it mean, the light of Keter turns its face downwards and from his posterior upwards? We need to know that there is a difference between a record of clothing, which is called a male, and a record of coarseness, which is called a female. That there cannot be expansion in the Guf on the record of clothing, only on a record of coarseness. You find that sufficiently, all that they need means, he says here in Inner Light, until they become suitable for expansion with that illumination which they received to their place to the Guf. That was precisely after the coupling on phase three of coarseness was done, not on phase four of the level of Keter. So he explains, The ARI says, after they received all they need, he now turns his face from them upwards, and he's back facing the male and the female. So he explains that the coupling that belongs to the light of Keter stopped, which was on four of clothing, and then his illumination stops expanding to ZON, which is below him. And this is called his posterior facing ZON. So he explains that prevention of illumination is called posterior. Now, why does he deny his illumination? The reason for the cessation of his illumination we explained below. It is because the coupling reached the Nukva that is incorporated in the record on coarseness of phase three. And again, he has no connection, no relation to phase four. She is phase, coarseness of phase three, which draws only from the level of Hochma of the upper roots, and not from Keter of the roots. Therefore, the light of Keter below Malchut no longer receives light for the ZON that is below. Which light? The light of Keter he no longer receives. For this reason, after the coupling of phase three is done, then the male and the female immediately expand to the Guf, to the vessel of Keter which is there, and the second expansion of Akudim occurs. So, what does he say here? His posterior is downwards, downwards on phase three, not more. What is that? What is the benefit in there? We'll see later. Item five. The reason that they need to rise up is because these… since these vessels of Akudim are the first vessels that did not come out, as mentioned above. And above them, vessels were not made because there's a lot of light there. And the vessels cannot exist there. Item five below. Those vessels of Akudim are the first vessels, meaning the vessels of the first expansion where the male and the female of Keter, those records rose from there. And there, he says, that a great light, and the vessels cannot exist.
