Part 2: The Right Way To Study The Wisdom Of Kabbalah

Reader: (00:03) In the first half of the lesson, from 3:00 to 4:00, we watched a recorded lesson from 2003 – an old lesson. I understood that you also watched part of the lesson upstairs?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: Can you share your discernments when you watch a recorded lesson? How are you impressed by it?

M. Laitman: My impression is that the audience in general feels and understands these articles and that's it. We should continue to open them that way.

Student: How do we enter a recorded lesson as one heart?

M. Laitman: That depends on connecting the hearts if we can connect the hearts to make them one – that's not simple. But, each time, a bit more and a bit more as much as we can get closer in our hearts, then we'll feel new things in that.

Student: In a live lesson, when you’re here, there's a certain alertness, an inner awakening; something else is felt because it's alive. But in a recorded lesson, it's different. It depends on the person's yearning, preparation, the general spirit in the society?

M. Laitman: Correct.

Student: How do we bring the same feeling of a live lesson into a recorded lesson, as if there's no difference?

M. Laitman: Yes, certainly, when we try to open ourselves in such a way that the heart will be impressed. That the heart will be impressed.

Student: How to make the heart impressed? How do you impress the heart when I'm sitting in a recorded lesson and like in a live lesson when the awakening is natural?

M. Laitman: I don't think there's a difference, it depends on the person, to what extent he has an efficiency to be incorporated in the lesson. But other than that, I don't feel any problem.

Student: I have a variety of friends around the world, some friends are extremely impressed by these lessons whether or not they were there, they’re impressed whether they're new or veteran. They see it as a treasure, they get a lot of new things from it. Some friends think it's a bit of an old material and you can do things differently in the lesson. How do you relate to a recorded lesson?

M. Laitman: To me it's the same thing, I hear the voice of Rabash and I know his flow in the lesson. And then, I am together with the lesson, with his questions and his answers, and just adhered to him.

Student: Is there something missing from the recorded lesson?

M. Laitman: It all depends on the person.

Student: On the person.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (04:40) For the lessons in the past and the present, I wanted to ask, what is a lesson?

M. Laitman: A lesson is some portion that we want to swallow. Swallow that portion and, with it, incorporate, become included with the internality of the lesson. And as a result of that to gain an incorporation – incorporation between us and with the lesson and with the Rav. We want to incorporate with it.

Student: What is this portion, this measure? What's in it?

M. Laitman: This portion is a partial feeling that we can extract from the lesson.

Student: Does this feeling depend on time?

M. Laitman: It depends more on the person. But still, there's also a matter of times.

Student: There's a person and if I understand correctly, it's his attitude toward the lesson and there's what's happening in the lesson.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: These things depend on one another. A person is impressed by a lesson according to his attitude. What's the correct attitude with which a person has to come to a lesson?

M. Laitman: He comes to the lesson with such preparation that he wants to take in, to swallow, to absorb what was in the lesson in a way that it comes from his teacher, his Rav, to him.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (07:13) We see, we're watching lessons where we used to sit differently and every friend sat alone in front of the teacher. Today, we are arranged in Tens. We have a Ten, every friend is sitting inside the Ten.

M. Laitman: Yes?

Student: This structure that he's accustomed to sitting in the Ten and coming to the lesson and from within it. How important is it in the work of each friend, in watching the recorded lesson even, when he's to be inside the Ten and not to sit alone in the lesson?

M. Laitman: Everyone should examine himself, how much it affects him, for better or, God forbid, the opposite.

Student: This lesson, this measure or portion that's going to absorb from the lesson, is it also inner work he's going to do, he needs to do with his Ten? He needs to watch it passively or he needs to do certain work from within the Ten?

M. Laitman: He's in a Ten, he's in connection with his friends and that provides some feeling of closeness. And that's what gives him even more strength to become incorporated with the friends.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (09:03) Yesterday, when they asked this question, you said that we're lacking a feeling, to feel in one heart in the lesson. How do we come to such a feeling of one heart in the lesson?

M. Laitman: According to the desire, according to the effort. To be incorporated together, each one in everyone else, as if he's clothing them, as impressed by them. And this way, to be incorporated in the topic of the lesson.

Student: It requires a certain preparation.

M. Laitman: Yes, that is true, but that will come.

Student: You have the person who's impressed, you have the Creator, you have the teacher, the friends who are studying together from the teacher, and from the Creator. How do we unite everything so we'll have a lesson, a measure, that this measure will be accepted, taken in properly?

M. Laitman: I think that each one should understand that this is a special opportunity he has in the lesson to be incorporated with the society, and that is a very special vessel. Then and only then, is he capable of clinging to the topic of the lessons–it's an opportunity—each and every lesson is an opportunity for adhesion.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (11:38) To help the general flow, soon we will read Shamati. What do I need to think about—about love of friends, about the reforming light? I'm telling you, thank you for the tools, the vessels you gave us: How to use the shame, meaning what to awaken the shame, to awaken the light so that it will benefit the general flow. Because soon we're going to be hearing Shamati and there's a feeling that each will run to his—maybe to the right direction but not to the one heart, to the one thought.

M. Laitman: The fact that each one is in some kind of state of his own, it doesn't ruin the lesson. The main thing is that a person he understands that all in all, from this lesson he needs to come out of it with a portion of the Torah that Baal HaSulam is presenting before us, that's what's important. When I'm sitting in the lesson and I'm listening to what he's saying, how he's saying it, why he's saying it. Maybe also, myself, I've already read this and asked a few questions according to what I understood from the writings, that's it. The main thing is to come closer between us in the hearts, connect between us; and inside us, to feel that place of the Creator that we want to attain, to feel. That's it.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (14:22) In the live lesson, you draw us from the point that we're in one step forward, in the live lesson. In the recorded lesson – the old lesson, there are barely any guidance of the work in the heart. We can compel ourselves into it even though it has nothing to do with the lesson; maybe, here, it's my problem. But during the lesson, there aren't advices or guidances from you, even though the material is spiritual, of course, but there's no guidance to the work in the heart towards the connection between us. It's material that was long ago, it gave us knowledge, more knowledge—although, of course, spiritual. Here, something's missing, some kind of direction of how we work between us. That's how I feel, it's a little missing, a little taste is missing in this for me.

M. Laitman: So, ask about it during the lesson.

Student: To stop and ask questions? I didn't understand.

M. Laitman: Yes, you can stop and ask questions.

Student: Then we can incorporate with one another?

M. Laitman: Yes, more, of course.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (16:04) I don't see a difference in the recorded and live as far as the incorporation between us. Because we're engaging in one wisdom whether we're in a live lesson or recorded, spirituality comes and a person can do the inner scrutinies that he needs. What we have in the lesson when you're here is the ability to express the deficiency that's built in each and every one in the form of a question that will enter positively to the collective. Meaning from the individual deficiency that comes in during the lesson, we don't have the possibility during a recorded lesson to bring back that deficiency and raise it up so it enters the whole society. You recommended to ask a question and, even if there's no one to answer that question, at least someone else can maybe hear each other's questions, at least. But if that's not enough in order to scrutinize for each person to truly be able to receive an answer to one's question and scrutinize it and give it meaning because when we work, we have this conflict: we want to raise it up and solve it as a deficiency and that's missing. How to nevertheless do that when the teacher is not there?

M. Laitman: That depends on as much as you are relating with an open heart to one another. And according to that you can open the hearts in connection; and also, to open the hearts in the connection in relation to the lesson.

Student: There are individuals in the society.

M. Laitman: Yes?

Student: And the scrutiny one needs to do in order to receive a certain answer—what to do if there are no answers? Can you advance without answers, without the deficiency rising through the teacher to the Creator? Only between us can that also happen, somehow?

M. Laitman: Obviously, it can take place between you and also sometimes it goes through me to the Creator. But we need to stand on this in such a way that we don't let go until we get an answer.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (19:50) Who carries out the connection, in the end, between us?

M. Laitman: The Creator.

Student: What are the conditions that are needed so that the Creator will connect us?

M. Laitman: That we will ask with each and everyone's deficiency that there will be a place for the others. And then, all in all, the general deficiency will be felt on the Creator and He will give us the answer.

Student: I wanted to scrutinize this concept of connection because, really, all the time, that's usually your answer to all things: connection. When we come to the lesson and—before, I heard you, you said, we have to come to the lesson burning with the deficiency, to see a great opportunity, a great status to be in. When we come to the lesson in such a state of a great deficiency, all of us, where we really want and yearn—I don't want to use the word, connecting – but yearning to receive something in the ego. That joining of all the yearnings of ours together here, let's say, here, let’s say, each is yearning. The connection of all these yearnings, the answer of the Creator to that is the fact that He connects us, actually?

M. Laitman: No, the Creator's answer is in the essence of the connection.

Student: What does it mean, the essence of the connection?

M. Laitman: When we do connect and we can be adhered between us in that with a tendency to the Creator, in such a motion we can feel what we want to attain.

Student: I'll try to say this in simpler words: During the day, all kinds of states go through me. I connect with the friends and we come here – I don't have words to explain it – but you come to the lesson with a great longing. I don't know if it's for connection or I don't know how to explain it with words. But I come with a yearning, a friend sits next to me and I see him also. He's coming, he's trembling, he comes, he has a great desire. What? Where does the matter of connection enter here? You said that the Creator is the one that performs the connection. You said earlier, He connects us. Yes?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: Where does the matter of connection enter here? Several friends sit here with a very big deficiency.

M. Laitman: They need to think about it, they need to work on it, they need to demand it.

Student: That connection, for the Creator to connect us to one Kli?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: I understood. And then what creates the intensity of that connection?

M. Laitman: That will determine.

Student: Their desire?

M. Laitman: Their desire will determine the general intensity of the lesson.

Student: I understood. That's why you said it doesn't matter if the lesson was before or how long. It depends on how you come to the lesson and what matters is our desire to connect. That's what will define things in the end.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (23:59) Every friend has a very personal relationship to you and this makes, of course, a great difference if you are here or not. How do we use our personal relationship to you to enhance the Torah portion we want to take from the lesson?

M. Laitman: I don't have an answer, I do not have an answer. I think that the yearning, the inner yearning a person has, eventually, is what opens his connection with the Creator, and then he can receive from Him, from the Creator, the answer.

Student: It is written, “make yourself a Rav, buy yourself a friend.” How do we make our Rav during the lesson?

M. Laitman: Through him, all of us connect to the Creator. Then, we can receive from the Creator a fulfillment that will satisfy us.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (26:35) When you come to the lesson, you feel the whole world Kli and you give your daily portion in your answers; you put that message, the next degree that the group needs to reach, that spiritual message. My question is towards the recorded lessons, how do you choose which recorded lesson to hear? How can you know what is the inner message that the group needs. Not how to hear, how to choose.

M. Laitman: Which lesson to listen to? I don't know, I subdue to the choice that the friends made. If they want to hear this article or that article, that's enough for me to know that they chose it. Then I can incorporate with them; and then I get my part in this.

Student: I still want to ask about that point.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: There's friends who choose it according to the article that we're studying, more or less, according to the spirit that they heard in that lesson – according to what we need, now, to study. They would probably choose the same article whether you were there or not; it's their choice and I trust them 100%. But there's an article that we learned 15 times and each time the group that was before you was in a different place. Each time the group that was in front of you, you gave the spirit in your answers according to the state of the group. How can you know, it's clear that There's None Else Besides Him, and this and that. But when you really want to do what will advance the group correctly? That's my question.

M. Laitman: We will advance and it will become clear. There's a difference whether I answer or if you, from the flow of the lesson get an answer. It's better that you will get the answer because it already will come in your vessels and not otherwise.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (29:51) You said that it's important how we come to the lesson and my question: There's a difference between a preparation for a recorded lesson and a preparation where, in advance, you know you're going to be in a live broadcast with the teacher.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: What's the difference in the preparation?

M. Laitman: The difference is in whoever is preparing himself to listen to the lesson.

Student: I'm asking because, for a time we know that the beginning of the lesson will be a recorded lesson and then there will be a live lesson with you. We read the articles that we're going to be doing live with you. We read them together, we try to scrutinize and the recorded lesson, we don't even go through it. I also don't know, to tell you whether every friend hears that lesson. The question, here, is whether there's a scrutiny that we need to do in relation to the recorded lesson? Because the attitude is completely different to a recorded lesson than to one with you live, that's clear. The question is do we need to change our attitude, also, to a recorded lesson?

M. Laitman: Either way, you will relate to it according to—in a way where you used to relate to lessons.

Student: You're saying that the attitude should be the same attitude towards a recorded lesson and towards one that's live with you?

M. Laitman: More or less, yes.

Student: If we're not even going over it, we're not scrutinizing it, how can it be the same attitude?

M. Laitman: First, you read it.

Student: No, I'm saying, recorded lesson, we don't even go over it, only the lesson that we know in advance that we're going to be seeing live with you. Let's say it's one article, two articles, short, then we go over those articles. But the recorded article, we kind of trust that each one heard it, personally, there's no hearing it together; and they feel it differently.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: How do we give the same—how do we relate to both of them the same way?

M. Laitman: You need to be prepared for it.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (32:40) First of all, I want to be thankful for these recorded lessons. It's simply – I don't know how to describe it – it's an abundance that you give and the friends who chose these lessons. Really, I am extremely impressed by those lessons and I think it's complementing that if there's a recorded lesson, then a live lesson, maybe it would be worthwhile to do it on the same material? But it's not so important, what I wanted to ask is about incorporation in the recorded lesson. You said that we can also stop the lesson and ask questions. Now, about that, I wanted to ask, if, for example, friends really have questions that are kind of, they have a longing to understand it more. Can they ask and maybe do a workshop about it, maybe, as the incorporation of the friends? Because, in a live lesson with you, the friends ask and we can incorporate in their questions. But, in a recorded lesson, can we do such a thing: To ask a question and do a workshop in the Ten, let's say, about such a thing?

M. Laitman: Okay, sounds good.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (34:04) I wanted to ask you, in a live lesson with you, usually, we always receive the next degree. Every lesson we sit with you, we ask questions, you answer us, and it helps us advance to the next step, to the next stage, every day, it's like new every day. In a recorded lesson, there's always a feeling that, how do you scrutinize what's the next step for us? Let's say, now, I sat in a recorded lesson and I'm sitting, connecting, and hearing. But, I don't know, even now, you can see that you're here, that we're more, we entered more into it, we feel more, we're advancing, we can feel that there's a feeling of advancement. The question is how can a person scrutinize his next step, his next stage, his next state, in a recorded lesson?

M. Laitman: What we need to receive from the recorded lesson is – it goes in there through the lesson, through the texts, in us. And it doesn't matter to us so much how it gets incorporated in us. We want to incorporate in it, to absorb it, and eventually, it is what helps us advance, that's it.

Student: Everyone is getting used to the fact that you're here. The question is, well, this is still new. I, personally, still feel like it's new to hear a recorded lesson. I don't feel what you said, that I need to change my attitude in the recorded lesson. But, in the real state, I don't yet feel it. What do I need to do? Do I need to wait or try to always change my attitude until I reach that state?

M. Laitman: You need to try to incorporate with the general attitude that's here. That's it. No more questions? Yes.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (37:13) I don't know if it's a question, but I would like, it sounds to me like, I don't quite understand what the scrutiny is, really? Because for Rabash articles, no one complains that they're not a month ago, from a month ago. There's Rabash articles that are 30, 40 years ago and we learned them and they're considered eternity for us and we get to study the same article every day and we'll still come out with it with something new. And I think that also with Rav's lessons doesn't matter if they're 20 years ago or three years ago we can take out of them eternity, Ein Sof. And so, we just need to yearn to be in that state all the time I don't really understand where we're missing the matter, here?

M. Laitman: I don't think you're missing out on it if you try to incorporate between you; and in such a way, approach the lesson and absorb it.

Student: Is this observation, correctly, that in every lesson there's endless things towards our Ten?

M. Laitman: I don't know why to get into that philosophy?

Student: Because otherwise there's a question mark. Why the study only from the last year we're talking about Ten so we're talking about the work in the Ten in our current state.

M. Laitman: In order to go in depth, it's better to do that, yes.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (39:06) I wanted to ask in relation to the answers to the questions that come in the lesson. I heard that it's best to receive the answers from the flow of the lesson. And now there was a suggestion to maybe do workshops; but if we stop and do a workshop then the flow of the lesson stops. And there's a feeling that receiving an answer from the flow of the lesson requires more connection, more of a demand for the Creator. So, what's more recommended?

M. Laitman: Recommended? To know exactly what we're going to learn in the lesson, and at home, to prepare yourself for the lesson.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (40:11) First of all the lessons are excellent! I'm envious of the friends that had the opportunity 20 years 30 years to be here! The question is there's a difference between a question where you hear a question from a friend from 20 years ago and me hearing a question now that someone who's sitting here and a question awakens in him from a deficiency that he's in right now in the present?

M. Laitman: There's a difference.

Student: What?

M. Laitman: There's a difference between each and every moment between each and every lesson. All in all, it's a result of the relations between the friends.

Student: Now, you have amazing students that you raised here. And we see their lessons also on Saturday, the friends gave a lesson it was a real lesson – it was a real lesson, it was awesome! Can those friends give the lessons, can we sit with them and ask them and they will give us answers?

M. Laitman: Of course, each and every one, if you want from him, so we should try and give a lesson.

Student: And they're ready for this!

M. Laitman: Yes. Let's keep going.
