Part 2:
Baal HaSulam. Introduction to the Book Panim Meirot uMasbirot. #22
1. R. (01:43) Meaning that the main thing is the connection between us and through that we come closer to the Creator and become a vessel for his light, and it all depends only on the connection between us.
2. S. (02:08) What is this love?
R. Love is when I care about you, and you care about me and you have no concern about yourself because I care about you, and I don't care about myself because you care about me. It’s that connection in the vessel of Adam HaRishon that has to be corrected.
S. With all of that, it sounds simple and clear, but we can’t do it.
R. It doesn't exist anywhere, in anything in this world. Give me an example.
S. I agree so what are you to do about it? We say we have to be with great love.
R. We pray, we ask the Creator to give us this force, this force is the force of the Creator. I can’t care about you. I can under some small conditions, short as long as I have some vested interest in it and you for me as well. But for us to be above our ego, truly connected to one another where you are more important to me than my own self, this is impossible. Here the Creator has to supply this power.
3. S. (03:29) We always learn about him saying that if we are willing to come to Jerusalem, but it was spoiled because of what happened between the wives there. So what can you say about that in the ten, we have doubts or not?
R. That's what they had; I'm not so concerned about that. I'm concerned about the connection between us. This excerpt says that we have to hear and accept above our intellect everything that we are told.
S. It reminds me of if you say something and we have doubts about it.
R. Especially one friend…
S. On the contrary, I have no doubts about what you are saying. But there are a lot of things that you say, and people have doubts about what you are teaching. So how do we relate to those friends?
R. To love them.
S. To love them?
R. Yes.
S. Even though they say things that are…?
R. Yes, yes, yes. There's nothing you can do about it, specifically because of that.
Reading 62 (04:54)
Reading 63 (06:46)
4. R. (07:14) Meaning there has to be a great darkness specifically to make room for the light to shine in all of its might.
Continues 63 (07:24) “The Lord will turn…”
5. R. (07:40) This because it all depends only on awareness or recognition of the person, then it's inverted.
Reading 64 (07:53)
6. R. (09:05) Meaning that we have to come to the true recognition of evil, the true degrees of darkness from which we’ll begin to see justice, the upper light, the state of in order to bestow, how special they are.
7. S. (09:29) Rabbi Akiva was laughing because he understood that the Gmar Tikkun was about to happen. So I wanted to ask about our attitude towards all problems that are being revealed before the Gmar Tikkun. We also know it will come, that should be the approach? Do we somehow disregard or don't look at all the problems?
R. We don’t ignore them, we don’t take them lightly, we don’t ignore what is happening to us. We simply add to it the power of faith, which means it’s all in order to reveal to us our lowliness and from that to come to our correction.
8. S. (10:39) According to excerpt 61, what is love of mercy and how is it different from just love?
R. Love of mercy is a very special correction than just love that could be unconditional so it includes everything, and it can be in all kinds of different levels.
9. S. (11:08) What is unfounded hatred and how is it related to the desire to receive a reward for the work?
R. Again?
S. What is unfounded hatred and how is it related to the will to receive a reward for the work?
R. Unfounded hatred is exactly that main inner point that is in the will to receive in order to receive, that it hates everything except for itself and from that point it relates to everyone.
10. S. (11:53) We learn that everything has a root and a reason. There is None Else Besides Him who is the source of everything. So how can something be free?
R. I'm not demanding anything for hatred like I'm not demanding anything for love. If I am fulfilled in those two points that is good for me.
11. S. (12:28) In the article we read there is a clear separation between before and after the age 13. What is the meaning of that age?
R. It is not a matter of years, it’s about a person's inner maturity. It doesn't matter what age you are; it can happen at any age.
12. S. (13:00) Should a person experience unfounded hatred in order to reach true repentance and does this process repeat itself in every degree?
R. It repeats itself in each and every degree otherwise the degree won’t exist if it won’t have any hatred in it.
13. S. (13:26) The egoistic nature enjoys hate. What is so addictive about hate?
R. The will to receive enjoys.
14. S. (13:40) The first temple and the second temple were ruined because of unfounded hatred. So until we discover our will to receive in us and hate it we won’t be able to build the third temple?
R. Of course, of course, no doubt.
15. S. (14:04) What does it mean to repent?
R. That we want to adhere to the Creator just the way it was before the shattering of the vessel of Adam HaRishon.
16. S. (14:20) Is there any connection between the unfounded hatred and this feeling I have, this envy I feel, for the Creator who is loving my friend and bringing her closer?
R. Yes. These are things that you have to scrutinize. It’s things that I do not want to scrutinize so much, I'm not a psychologist.
17. S. (14:49) How do we mitigate or sweeten the bad, the evil in the ten and how do we acquire love your friend as yourself in the ten?
R. You attain love of your friend as yourself in the ten by connection and prayer and that is what we need. The rest is not important.
18. S. (15:15) What are the signs that the heart is starting to open?
R. That I am starting to come closer with my heart to the friends.
Reading 65 (15:43)
19. S. (17:12) What does it mean that we need to criticize our actions on the path of holiness?
R. As much as I am really doing it with the intention to bestow and not for myself.
S. Then it’s revealed that I am separating from it?
R. Yes.
S. But it is I who is distant. What to take for the work between us?
R. You calculate, what can I tell you? You see today that I do not really want to give any answers because it’s part of the lesson. Everything should be like half and half.
