Reader: Hello friends, in the first part of the lesson, we will learn from a recorded lesson from October 27, 2021, Baal HaSulam, Shamati Articles, Article 36, Shamati 36, “What are Three Bodies in Man?”

_____________________________

Reader: Hello, we are reading from the Writings of Baal HaSulam, page 552 in Hebrew, Shamati Article 36, “What are the Three Bodies in Man.”  You can find study material on our website and on the study material button on the Arvut system. You can also send questions through the system, and selected questions on the material will be asked here.

M. Laitman: Yes, we realize already that our spiritual foundation, the foundation of our spiritual advancement, are the Shamati Articles; that, indeed, it was a wonder why Rabash didn't publicize it even among his students. He didn't publicize it, this great spiritual treasure, he didn't want to – we can see already what the Shamati Articles are and how much we should respect this treasure that we received from Rabash. Here, Baal HaSulam through Rabash concentrated all of the spiritual work, man's attitude, which we need to install such relations between us and to the Creator. That only that leads us directly to the purpose of creation.

And therefore, each and every article, we should try to work on it, surely, like with a book at the university, with a pencil even or a pen, to print it and to go over it word by word, and see how it is, how is it possible to understand the text better. Maybe arrange different words so it will be closer, more clear, for the time being, later on it will change many times. But nevertheless to make it closer to you, make it easier, more smooth, so that it will enter the heart. And later on it will enter into the heart. That is the work with these articles. Today, we have Shamati 36, “What are the Three Bodies in Man,” right? So, this article says that the most important thing in our efforts, as we want to discover the Creator, to get closer to Him, so we have to peel ourselves off, to tear ourselves off all of the thoughts, anything other than the group and the Creator. The group is that Kli where we discover the Creator, and therefore they cannot be separate, they have to be together, one inside the other. So that the group is the clothing, and the Creator is the filling that fills this vessel, this clothing. And this is what we have to think about all the time. And as much as each one of us clings to the group and through it to the Creator who dwells inside of the group a priori, in advance, on His side, this is how it is. So then we are on the right path and if we disconnect from that, then immediately we fall to evil, to disconnection, to the dirt – the evil inclination, the Klipa, the shell, it doesn't matter how you call it. And therefore, these two states we need to try to depict them to ourselves, it's either Kedusha, sanctity, through the group, to the Creator, or the Klipa, the shell, which is any other state. Well, let's read.

Reader: So, Shamati 36, “What are the Three Bodies in Man?”

Reading: (05:35) 36. What Are the Three Bodies in Man?

I heard on Adar 24, March 19, 1944, Jerusalem

Man is made of three bodies:

  1. the inner body, which is a clothing for the soul of Kedusha [holiness];

  2. the Klipa [shell] of Noga;

  3. the serpent’s skin.

In order to save one from the two bodies, so they do not interfere with the Kedusha, and in order for one to be able to use only the inner body, the advice for this is that there is a remedy—to think only about things that concern the inner body.

This means that one’s thought should always remain in the singular authority, meaning that “There is none else besides Him.”

M. Laitman: This exists inside of the group and this is what we should think about all the time. About the vessel, the Kli, which is the group, and the Creator, which is, who is the fulfillment, who is there. However, He is concealed from us, to the extent that we discover the group in its complete form as a vessel, then we get closer to the revelation of the Creator that exists in it.

meaning that “There is none else besides Him.” Rather, He does and will do all the deeds, and there is no creation in the world that can detach him from the Kedusha.

M. Laitman: That is, these three components, these three elements, we should pay attention to them. What does he say here: That you should always remain in the singular authority. One, that There is None else besides Him, that He does and will do all the deeds, and three, that there is no creation or created being in the world that can separate one from the Kedusha. Everything depends on us, there are no obstructions, all the obstructions are in us, and we need to see Him in a way that there is None Else besides Him inside of our vessel only, and he does all the deeds. The disturbances also, and that he pulls us, it's all him.

And because he does not think of those two bodies, they die, since they have no nourishment and nothing to sustain them,

M. Laitman: Meaning, the less we think about the shell of Noga and the serpent's skin, meaning that there is something other than There Is None else besides Him who resides in the group. As much as we ascribe to all kinds of other sources some power that determines and manages life and the world. By that, we disconnect these shells from the source because everything passes through us, we are connected to the Creator. So, then everything depends on how much I think less about the external things, that seemingly they have in them some ability to manage the world, to manage my life. But rather I ascribe everything through the group to the Creator, that's it. And if I want to be in such a form of bestowal, then I disconnect all of the shells from their nourishment. And by that, I put them to death; my whole ego starts to be truly, it starts to come down and down in its importance and its ability to manage me, to influence me.

since the thoughts we think of them are their provision.

M. Laitman: Yes

Reading: This is the meaning of the verse, “In the sweat of your face shall you eat bread.” Prior to the sin of the tree of knowledge, vitality was not dependent on the bread. That is, there was no need to extend light and vitality, but it illuminated.

M. Laitman: Right, there was no disconnection between the will to receive and the light. The Creator existed inside of creation, which He created.

Reading: However, after the sin, when Adam HaRishon clung to the serpent’s body,

M. Laitman: You can say, the serpent's skin, so they'll get used to it, both this and that.

Reading: (10:49) 36. What Are the Three Bodies in Man cont.

However, after the sin, when Adam HaRishon clung to the serpent’s body, life became tied to the bread, meaning to nourishment that must always draw anew. And if they are not given nourishment, they die. This became a big correction in order to be saved from those two bodies.

M. Laitman: Yes, this is something that is not so simple. Why, on the way to sanctity, to the revelation of the Creator, to adhesion, to the correction of the whole of creation, we have to nourish the Klipot, the shells, what's in them? But on the other hand, we need to understand that the Creator made it so deliberately. He made the shattering, and in that shattering, in the broken vessels, there is a mixture between the will to receive and the will to bestow. And as much as we work in order to sort what is the Klipa and what is the Kedusha, sanctity. And how can we extract the Kedusha from the Klipa? By that actually we grow, and we become more and more understanding what the Creator did. Why He made creation be composed of light and darkness, the will to receive and the will to bestow. Why do we have to sort these two things, scrutinize them in our whole life? We are in searches, and disappointments, and you paid with this because, specifically, through all of these frictions that we have between bestowal and reception, between light and darkness. We can extract from there sparks, that is, specifically, the results of that, that it doesn't exist in the light or in the darkness, there is nothing for us. But only out of us, it's like we strike one stone on another, and sparks emerge from that. Specifically, they fill us, and they give us, they let us understand; they give us these such upper sparklings from the matter by which we can get to know the Creator.

That in the created being, there is nothing by which he can get to know the Creator. By simply approaching Him, and getting to know Him, understanding Him, feeling Him, there is nothing. But rather, specifically through these frictions whereby the sparks emerge. By them, like a spark in darkness, we can start to understand the way that the Creator had prepared for us. And that specifically by that, through this way, through these sparks, when we exist in all kinds of states where we don't understand anything, it's truly darkness. And then suddenly there is a spark, and then another spark, and in that way we begin to get to know the Creator. When we perform a few, when we create a few such sparks, when we make it so, when we go over that. Then we begin to get a feeling of how to get to know the Creator and His actions. Well, we'll find additional words for it, but specifically it's through these scrutinies that we get to form our vessel for spirituality. Because to begin with, we have nothing behind the beastly will to receive, and the point is that we want something but what is it that we want?

Reading: (15:50) 36. What Are the Three Bodies in Man

Thus, one must try with all one’s might not to think thoughts that concern them, and perhaps this is what our sages said, “thoughts of transgression are harder than a transgression,” since thoughts are their nourishment. In other words, they receive vitality from the thoughts one thinks for them.

M. Laitman: Yes, we need to realize that the shell is creation on its own, which the Creator has created, as it says, He created the evil inclination. And we cannot exist without it; and if so, then it also needs power in order to exist, and the power to exist can only come from the Creator. And how will it get it if it is the opposite of the Creator, and it is in infinite distance from Him, without any connection? So that connection is us, that connection is us. So then it turns out that the shell has a hold on us in order for us to give it a connection with the Creator. And we need, with our intellect, with our emotion, through scrutinies, we need to give it a little bit, as it is called, my last words, and all kinds of other signs, symbols that we have. That we should always leave something for it also, for it to exist, because without it, we will not be able to reach the end of correction also. Because it, the shell, awakens in us, from the other side, all kinds of disturbance of where is the good and where is the bad. And then if we relate to it in a manner of fact kind of approach, in a way that we want to build a structure out of it. Then we should understand that in everything there are sides that are for and against, and so we have to use this structure, correctly. Like we talked yesterday in the article that he swallowed up the riches and then threw them up. That, in all of our actions, as much as we seemingly fail in them, however, they also enter the ocean, the sea of the Sitra Achra – the other side – and it guards them. And later on we get them back, just like that vessel, that cup with which the person enters the treasury, and he takes out of there, and every time they pour out everything that we bring out. But later on we get all of it back, later on, it gives us back everything that we have collected, and it's the same here.

And so we also must realize that this whole form of the Sitra Achra, there is a need for it to exist, and we cannot do without it. However, it also requires some nourishment. It's not that we demand it for her – for the Klipa. But rather by that we gradually limit this desire, limit its nourishment so much so that eventually it disappears, it dies. However, this is a great work, that with every step along the way, as we rise in spirituality until the end of correction. We need to understand also that we cannot get rid of this serpent, and it will become more and more ruthless. Because one who is greater than his friend, his inclination is greater, and in this way we will advance, stage after stage. We just need to relate to these things, all of these things, with understanding in a form that is like the stories of Egypt, that we're told that you have to catch the serpent by its tail, and not by its head. Just like people who catch serpents, that's what they do, they catch the serpent by its, you need to catch the serpent by its tail. And then to see how you can work with it, how you can get along with it – we'll talk more about it. In short, all of our work is that we gradually take command over the nourishment of the serpent, we diminish, and diminish, and diminish what we give it until we put it to death by that. Next.

Reading: (21:44) 36. What Are the Three Bodies in Man cont.

Hence, one must think only of the inner body, for it is a clothing for the soul of Kedusha. That is, one should think thoughts that are after one’s skin. This means that after the body’s skin is called “outside one’s body,” meaning outside one’s own benefit, but only thoughts of benefiting others.

M. Laitman: Yes, that is, we should try, the thoughts, you see that everything is clarified by the thought. This sentence, we already talked a lot about it, many times about it, that: Everything is clarified by the thought. That our problem is our thoughts, our reflections, that we have doubts to do it this way, that way, maybe not to do it. I want, I don't want, maybe it's worthwhile, maybe it's not worthwhile – go to a meeting with the friends, turn on the computer, read something, do something that pertains to the correction of the soul. And in between all of these things, we constantly exist, it seems to us that this is because of our weakness. It seems to us that this is our character, and that others don't have these doubts, that they are stronger, that they do not get confused, but this is incorrect. It is all the time, all the time, it exists in each and every one, and we are not able to get rid of it until the end of correction.

And always, over all of the smallest and seemingly simplest things, we will nevertheless have doubts. Should we do it or not do it, keep it or not keep it? And this is along the entire way, and we have to realize that if we have more of these doubts, by this we are feeding the shell, and it loves it. And it brings us into all of these doubts. And what we do have to do is, as it says, strike its teeth – blunt its teeth. That we need to do as quickly as possible to do what's required, without thinking, because if we think, from that specifically the shell grows stronger. And this is how we nourish it, and this is why the most important thing is without thinking. Without getting into arguments, because that always makes us weaker, but rather to just go with breaking its teeth, as we call it, less mind, less emotion, just deeds. This is what we have, “Therefore”, as he says here, that “we have here those three things”, right? That There Is None Else Besides Him, He does and will do all of the deeds, and there is no created beings in the world or creation that can separate Him from sanctity.” This is from the very first, the beginning of the article, that's where I'm reading. So, we want to disconnect from the other two bodies – the shell, the Klipa of Noga and the serpent's skin – and just to be connected to the inner body, which is a clothing for the soul of Kedusha. So, then I discover this soul.

Question (MAK 6): (26:08) How can we minimize the nourishment of the other side? The Sitra Achra, the serpent only grows stronger, demanding more and more.

M. Laitman: So, of course, all of the doubts will become greater. The thoughts, we will have more of them, our strength will be lesser, this is how it will seem to us. And we have no choice but only to connect more with one another. From within ourselves we will never be able to get the force to overcome, never. Because we don't have it, simply, but rather only one shall help his friend, this is what we can do. If we connect between us, then each one can pass on to the other whatever he has. And it is arranged in this way from the system, itself – the system of Adam HaRishon – so that it will always be enough for us. If we connect, we are able to rise above all the doubts and troubles.

Question (French): (27:28)  Is Klipa shell like the middle third of the Tifferet, and this is why?

M. Laitman: No, no, no, let's get into that, let's not get into that, I don't want to hear such things. It's as if you know what is the middle third of Tifferet – we don't want to get confused with anything, but to learn what it says here, the way it is written here. I recommend to you, do not get into all kinds of other scrutinies, don't get in there.

Student: I will rephrase my question: The fact that it's worse to think about the crime than to be in the crime or in the snake. Is it because when I'm in between, it's because I'm also connected to Kedusha, and this is what nourishes the snake?

M. Laitman: The fact that you think, so then in your thoughts you have all kinds of fantasies and by that you are feeding the Klipa. Whereas, if you do something which is not good, it's egoistic, it's harming others, harming the group. Then by that, well, you did it, you're done with it, and later on, you realize that you didn't act correctly, and you regret it. That is, the thoughts against, bestowal, against the group, the Creator, they can be a lot worse and more desirable for our ego, for the shell, the Klipa, than the deeds. The thoughts are the greatest problem and therefore, if there are certain thoughts, immediately start doing the opposite deeds.

Student: So, once I fell in the Klipa, on the other side, it has nothing to nourish itself anymore?

M. Laitman: I didn't understand.

Student: When I fell into the Klipa, it has nothing to nourish itself anymore, because it has played a role. It wanted me to fall from my degree, and now it doesn't have any Kedusha to suck from?

M. Laitman: If I think about the Klipa, about all these thoughts, about myself, eventually then, by that, I nourish it, and it starts to grow. And then, from time and again, it grows more and more until it grips hold of me and I feel that I do not belong at all to the method of correction. This is what I understand from your question.

Question (Moscow 6): (32:26) You said that we should always leave a little something for the shell.

M. Laitman: That's not for us yet, this is already when we're going for receiving in order to bestow in such degrees above Bina – from Bina to Keter. Above the second restriction, then our work should be also in that we will be concerned about nourishing the shell, this is called, the last waters, or the hair of the Tefillin, or such things. These are great things, it's not for us, yet, but there are these things as well. That is, when we start to be partners of the Creator in creation, so much so that seemingly we understand. We start to understand and to feel what the shell exists for. And how we need not only to distance ourselves from this fed animal but also to give it some food. Because we can see how beneficial it is and how much we ourselves need it in order for it to hold us in fear, and in all kinds of correct relations towards the quality of reception.

Question (Bulgaria 1): (34:23) You said we should not think about it because it's a shell. It weakens us. On the other hand, everything gets clarified in the thought. When should we think, and when should we act without thinking?

M. Laitman: This depends on the degree that a person is on, the state that a person is on. That gradually we begin to learn how the Klipa is built opposite the Kedusha so that the two of them are one opposite the other. As it says that God made one opposite the other so that we can use both this and that in order to advance correctly forward. So that we cannot advance without the Klipa, and each time as we advance, our usage of the Kedusha and our usage of the Klipa become more complex. We will learn that, but this is how it works. The Klipa, it's not just that we take it, cut it off, throw it away, and we don't want to remember about it, no. It's a part of creation that always exists with us, and we constantly learn better and better how we can advance specifically also through it.

Question (ITA 4): (35:54) You just said that we need to feed the Klipa, what does it mean that we have to go down towards the world to receive for ourselves?

M. Laitman: As of now, we don't need to give any food to the Klipa, yet, I said this is not on our degree. To give food to the Klipa means that we are already in a connection with the Creator and we understand the role of the Klipa and the role of the Kedusha, and we're able to be in between the two of them. And therefore we also have to maintain the two of them and how we advance in between the two of them on the middle line, this is still not for us. And I talked about it, and you only hear half of the sentence.

Question (Turkiye 2): (36:52) For example: I will distribute, and while thinking about it, I find many things that sow my right. How can I manage to talk to you?

M. Laitman: I think that it's not worthwhile for you to think about your thoughts, but rather to incorporate with the people that you want to disseminate. To pass on to them everything that you want to pass on in a way that is as pretty as possible; as good as possible, as accessible as possible, so that they will accept it. And they will be impressed by it. And following all of these things, it will be possible to also talk about your internal scrutinies.

Question (Salt Lake City): (38:08) It is written here that Sitra Achra is necessary in order to reach the Creator. How should we connect to Sitra Achra? Do we need to respect
and love it because it is needed for our development or we need to hate it because it distances us from the Creator?

M. Laitman: We need to learn how to work with the Sitra Achra – the other side – since in the beginning we have to push it away from us as much as possible because we don't know how to work with it. It's like we teach little children, don't touch this, stay away from that, this is not allowed,. We remove them from all the things that may harm them; and then later, gradually, we teach them how to work with fire, with electricity, all kinds of heavy things that can fall on them. To the extent that we develop, we take all the seemingly harmful forces, seemingly bad, and we use them when we need them, correctly. That's what we slowly do, so the main idea here is, he swallowed everything and then he will vomit it out. We push all those things that belong to the Sitra Achra, to the Klipa, to our egoistic desire, push it off to the side.

We don't want to be connected to it, we want to be connected only to the force of connection and love and bestowal, only to the good things, just like we educate a baby. And we only give it good things, we don't want to introduce anything else. Later, when he grows up, as a result he can now comprehend that there are bad things, harmful things. We gradually begin to teach him from the other side as well, and so on and so forth.
