Baal HaSulam. "Study of the Ten Sefirot" (TES). Vol. 1. Part 1. Chapter

Volume 1 Part 1 (01:07 - 03:08)

Inner Light (03:09 - 03:28)

48. R. This means we are not supposed to depict it in time and space if we want to study the wisdom of Kabbalah, only in our inner qualities, but bestowal and reception.

Reader continues: “There are not subject to....” (3:44 - 03:49)

49. R. A matter of time has nothing to do with our time.

Reader continues:

“all the changes that are spoken of in this wisdom do not apply....” (03:52 - 04:15)

50. R. Nothing disappears or is gone ever, if there are changes it these are the next states that develop and come upon the previous ones.

Reader continues: “As absence and change our corporeal conducts...” (04:26 - 05:18)

51. R. Maybe we should read it a few times, you should read this during the day and in the meantime we will continue. Item one indicates the item in above in the words of the Ari, know that before the emanated beings, what is the word before?

Reader: 1. "The issue of spiritual time is explained thoroughly....” (05:55 - 06:12)

2. Clarifies the upper simple light, it refers to the light that expand....” (06:13 - 06:51)

52. R. This means we do not attain the Creator, we only attain the bestowal that comes from him which is called the upper light which spreads from him and to the extent that we attain the upper lights according to the equivalence of form with him, with the upper light, to that extent we understand the Creator.

53. S. (07:15) ....

R. He's not speaking about it so I'm not speaking about it, let's not talk about what is not written about there's a thousand questions to ask but it's not time for it, we're only asking of cording to what is written not that we are going to learn everything, we will, but in its place.

54. S. (07:55) We just read and all of these spiritual categories do understand it properly, please explain the meaning of the texts as sometimes it confuses?

R. No, I can't stop now on this, about all of these as it will be clarified on the way, we will learn all of these things. This is not the place as it is not what he is talking about now.

55. S. (08:46) If you can please focus, our intention?

R. Yes, we did jump right in. Intention should be clarified all the time and get stronger all the time because we are learning something that we don't understand that we don't feel. Our whole study is to give us new vessels so that we will feel that we will understand we will discover that same state about which we are reading. That the book has explained to us something that doesn't exist in our world, doesn't exist, meaning in our present sense and we wish to reach a state that we correct ourselves, to such an extent that we discover what he is writing about. That is the purpose of the study, the right intention for the study is in order for the study itself to correct us and we will feel what this book is about, what the Ari is telling us. This is why it's not the wise who learns that I'm going to interpret all kinds of words as definitions, no. I will constantly try to direct you to the right approach for the study and you will start discovering rather than all of these words in all of the numbers, that you will start revealing this world that the Ari wishes to lead us to, that we will start to discover it. That out of the revelation that we will feel and understand and study it, this is because we want to come closer to it and discover it according to the equivalence of form.

56. S. (11:25) We can't feel the Creator, we can't say a word about it but at the same time ...?

R. The Creator created us in such a way with such qualities that we can develop until we attain him.

57. S. (11:59) We read that each one discovers according to his qualities, so the question is what does it mean that whatever we don't attain we can't name?

R. Each one attains differently, what does it matter, the main thing is that we need to reach attainment and attainment is according to the equivalence of form, meaning to the extent that we are as bestowing to the Creator, that is how we will attain him in portions, smaller or bigger.

58. S. (12:43) He says here that we have no word about it because that's the rule we can't add a single word because the rule is we can't attain we can't explain, is there some danger in this study?

R. There are many things here we do not know but the main thing for us is to remember very well that attainment and understanding in the study only depends upon the equivalence of our vessels with spirituality. Meaning to the extent we will be with intention in order to bestow, with the same intentions to bestow we will be able to attain spirituality and if we don't have such intentions, we won't attain spirituality. But rather we would begin to depict the spiritual world the way we feel like egoistic qualities.

S. We don't have the quality of bestowal right now, how should we learn and read together with you in this study?

R. We should try to aim ourselves to a state where we also acquire the correct intention, meaning the intention to bestow and then within the intention to bestow as big as it is, as much as it raises us above our ego, to the extent of this intention and within this intention we will discover the upper world. Because this is entirely within the force of bestowal and if we don't yet have the force of bestowal, we should ask for it, ask for the force of bestowal and then we should direct ourselves during the study to bring us the force of bestowal.

S. What should be the intention?

R. I just told you.

S. How do we do this in the 10?

R. I told you right now and if you hear yourself sometimes you should be quiet so you don't disturb others.

S. Maybe, annulment or something?

R. I told you what to do and I'm telling you to be quiet because you don't hear anything besides yourself.

59. S. (15:29) Baal HaSulam writes changes in spirituality doesn't mean one disappears and another takes its place but that is a change of form and each remains?

R. Nothing disappears what we went through, everything is written down and we attain and acquire new states every time and so even if it seems to you that today is like yesterday, nothing changes, that is wrong. The desires and conditions change and man changes, maybe it's done in a way that it is not yet discovering the changes within him but still it is happening.

60. S. (16:32) This condition that we can't cross, is this a limitation of our nature?

R. The limitation in us comes from our oppositeness to spirituality, without this opposite we would not be able to perceive spirituality because we should perceive upon the contrast of black and white, good and bad, light and darkness, only in this way can we understand and feel things. We are the created beings and we should feel ourselves opposite to the Creator on the one hand and on the other hand to resemble the Creator. Then we will have the opposite shape, the similar shape and in the gap between these two states we will feel our reality, where we are and who we are, Who the Creator is and what is the connection. That is everything in the wisdom of Kabbalah, that it teaches us.

61. S. (18:00) We say it is not the wise who learns, and our study is entirely a remedy and not to philosophize and look at the words through your intellect and on the other hand it says a student should memorize this direction?

R. Interpretation of the words as in order to describe all of the definitions in the right way, that it is only by the equivalence between our qualities and the upper qualities.

S. What do we do about memorize it?

R. Memory is not a problem, when we learn this after we have come to some right kind of discernment, this discernment should stay with us and will continue to study. First of all, right now the thing for us should be clear in one thing, that we are concerned about the right attitude to the study, the correct intention and everything is in the intention as it is scrutinized by though, it is not in the superficial study when we start writing down like students these things to remember them. We want to change by every word, by every sentence as correctly as possible with respect to the actions that we read about, we want to change and this determines our whole attitude to the study.

62. S. (20:02) How to detect a concept that is above time?

R. We will learn this as we can't go into it right now, it is at the end of the inner observation where he explains this.

63. S. (20:23) You said that our study should be aimed in order to feel what he writes, but when I read this first excerpt that we started from oh, how can we feel such a height?

R. That's something I'm not explaining as each one should feel this according to his own vessels, how according to equivalents of the vessels, when you want to try to understand Ari, come closer to him and then you will understand him. It is just like in our world if you want to understand a poet or someone, you have to feel him or to understand him more and it is the same here.

S. How can I, so small and distant, feel the Ari?

R. This is through the equivalence of form and the yearning for equivalence of form, the prayer to the Creator to carry out all of the actions that we should in order to get a force from above that will make us more like the vessels that should be corrected and feeling the spiritual world. This is what is going on here as we are in the spiritual world, it is only that we are blocked and we can't feel it, we have to open our vessel of reception, perception and then we will start feeling and then the yearning, the tendency for it, the quest for it will be constantly from all of us together to the extent that we want to bestow to each other we can bestow to the Creator and accordingly we will start discovering the Creator. The revelation of the Creator is gradual in us as it is called the spiritual world.

64. S. (22:51) In the first part before the creatures were created in the light of Ein Sof filled the entire reality, this means that the world of Ein Sof was all created with the four phases of direct light?

R. Everything was created immediately and we have to discover it specifically from the lowest point to the uppermost points, the entire creation spread from above downward, from the Creator to this world and we have to discover our states from this world until the Creator.

65. S. (23:51) To ask about the readers who should memorize the meaning of the words, Kabbalists ask to forget what they attain so what should we remember and what should we forget?

R. We will talk about this along the way, in the meantime we have nothing to remember or forget, we just started. If you stand on your question, you will stand alone and we will go forward.

Inner Light #3 “It is seemingly perplexing for it speaks of a time....” (24:32 - 26:44)

66. R. Meaning there was seemingly the root for the worlds to begin with even before the restriction. That is called what we call the four phases of direct light and later the restriction was made and after the restriction the worlds started spreading because world Olam, is a limited thing and before these worlds there was the world of Ein Sof, meaning that the upper light filled the entire reality without any limitation and after the restriction was made, we will learn about this, after the restriction, the worlds started spreading. The word, Olam, is from the word HaElemah, of concealment, meaning a limited appearance of the vessel and then it turns out that put in a partial proportionate way, the lights, the upper light works on the will to receive that it created correcting it and feeling it, organizing it according to itself and this is how it creates the worlds, Partzufim, Sefirot, and we will learn about all of this next time. In the meantime, we are only trying to see how we can approach the study of TES to see it, to understand it and to feel it and this is how we will try to ultimately go into the feeling of the upper world, this is the goal and to know this in our minds, and in our intellect. But to transform the heart and to start feeling it just as with our desires today we feel this world then we can research that this world once we feel it, as it is written about the upper world as well, what we do not feel we cannot name. So, about the spiritual world first we have to feel it and then we can study it properly.

67. S. (29:38) If the study TES is all about feeling is there any room for questions in the study except for the questions about intention?

R. You can ask about anything, yes but you should know that understanding the wisdom of Kabbalah, understanding the upper world, the success of the study depends entirely on a person's intention and to the extent that he yearns to be in order to bestow.

68. S. (30:27) The study that we started, should we try and connect the study to the work in the 10 or there's no connection.

R. No, you shouldn't connect it anymore, the study itself depends upon how much we are connected. It is not that you and the 10 have to go through this state where you study here in TES. Rather we are learning TES as a remedy and to the extent that we intend to reach the intentions in order to bestow in our study of TES will help us realize these intentions within us and we don't need be on that beat to these corrupt intentions as they feel us, we will start discovering the upper world. Except for the intention in order to bestow when he's nothing as upon all of our desires this is what we need to rule.

69. S. (32:13) The question is also about the 10, what is new about the study of TES, how to feel this now in the 10?

R. This is one more means to reach the intention in order to bestow, besides the intention in order to bestow upon the will to receive on us we need nothing, according to our intention, upon the desire so we can only use the desires that are restricted on the one hand and on the other hand they are under the intention in order to bestow so our desire we can use them and in them to discover the upper world, the Creator. So, we will understand what TES says.

S. We come to TES many times, now we feel the importance that you're giving it and we want to take it as a 10 to the next state we are being led to.

R. All I want is one thing in this study not to forget about the intention and the intention should be the big thing. Without the intention there's no need to study as we have no benefit here. The only thing is in order to reach the intention in order to bestow, to rise above my ego, that's a light during the study will bestow upon me and it will give me what we just spoke about in all of these lessons about the intention of the study.

S. The greatness of the Creator is what I should get from the study?

R. Yes, but I should yearn for that.

70. S. (34:28) How without attaining the Creator himself can we scrutinize the true intention in his creation of all of creation?

R. We attain the actions of the Creator, the actions of the Creator and from your deeds we shall know you see, this is what it is called, the Creator himself we do not attain, all we attain is the action of the light upon us and that is enough for us to ultimately know the Creator. This is called the Creator, come and see, BoReh, and only in this way do I turn all kinds of phenomena in our world as well, the essence of the things, the actions. This gives you sufficient knowledge about what you live and what is around you. With this we will conclude the lesson and tomorrow we will start from item four.
