Rabash 55. Delight Them with a Complete Structure – 1
Reading article first
1. Rav’s Introduction: (01:37) The Creator is the source of good, the source of bestowal, love, connection and He created the created being. He made the created being opposite to himself so that created being first of all can exist because otherwise he would be swallowed up in the Creator if he also had the good inclinations. When he stands opposite to the Creator with the evil inclination he is more conspicuous, more of a created being and so the Creator created the created being in the form that resembles Him, the Creator but it is opposite to Him. A person begins to feel during his development how much he is more and more evil. He doesn’t detect that he is the opposite to the Creator. People in this world they feel that the more they develop as it says adding reason, adding pain.
There are many concerns, how do we call it, adding possessions, adding concerns. Meaning the more the person develops or he develops his possession by that he has more concerns, more problems. By that he does not become complete and calm, attaining the essence of creation. Actually there he would discover himself as being in a state of absolute rest with all the understanding, feeling, connection and adhesion with the whole of nature. Therefore the Creator created us in such a form that we develop with the evil inclination and we begin to discover and increase our problems, our troubles and this in itself gradually brings us back to the corrections.
Either we start discovering it on our own through the blows or we receive truly from heaven, through special people this explanation towards the right approach to life. That it is worthwhile for us to balance the evil in us and through these two forces, as standing on two legs we can reach wholeness. There cannot be wholeness with only the good inclination because that’s the Creator and with only the evil inclination it is truly a disaster. By us balancing these two forces such that as much we have the evil inclination we correct it through the good inclination and we use both of them. This is called the middle line. This is why joy can be only with a complete structure that comprises two opposite forces that work together. This is why it is written delight them with a complete structure. We should understand the meaning of a complete structure or an incomplete structure. After all an incomplete structure is unfit for anything. What do you have from something that is ruined? We should interpret that the time of Kedusha, holiness is a complete structure, when a person builds in his heart a place for installing Kedusha.
A person wants to build inside of himself some place for understanding, for feeling. What does it means Kedusha? What does it means spirituality? What does it mean the upper one, eternity? Because this is actually the whole of man since there are two forces in man's heart, the good inclination and the evil inclination. An incomplete structure means that the Creator only with the good inclination, to bestow in order to bestow. Meaning he restricts his will to receive and he works above his will to receive only where he can give, bestow. Not to use it for himself from within but rather outside of himself. He does good things for people but not by giving himself to that. This is called being a servant of the Creator only with the good inclination which is with the vessels of bestowal.
To bestow in order to bestow as we call it. And a complete structure means that he can serve the Creator meaning in order to do the work of the Creator also with the evil inclination. His whole ego, all of his bad qualities he can invert them to use them for the good. This already is something great, it is a great person and he is capable of working with himself in that way. He has to go through the recognition of evil, that he knows the evil in each and every one of his qualities and gradually he can invert it in order to bestow. In such a way he reaches a state where he is serving the Creator with both of his inclinations, with the good inclination, to bestow in order to bestow and also with the evil inclination, receive in order to bestow.
2. S. (08:15) How can we implement, build a complete and correct structure in the ten?
R. By me starting to look at the friends, that they are examples both for the bad and also for the good that the Creator placed before me. I take the example from them of how I need to change in order to relate to them in the best possible way. It’s not that I do this in actuality, immediately, right now towards them, but rather in the meantime I have to learn that the friends are images that I see in my emotions, in my senses and I must accept them in this way. That this is how it comes to me from the Creator and if I establish myself correctly in my relation to them, behind them stands the Creator. We’ll be able to reach a state where I will also relate to Him correctly. Otherwise I cannot know, I can fantasize in all kinds of different imaginations of mine how to relate to the Creator, how to speak to Him what to do. And here with the friends it is something that is certain and simple. To see them before you and you see in which form, negative or positive or in-between you relate to them. So imagine to yourself this state where the Creator is standing behind them and He is establishing for you these images.
You need to learn upon them how to relate to Him. About that we have lots of materials what to do. Rabash writes about it, Baal HaSulam writes about it. That I need to connect to them, to be as one man with one heart, that’s at the end, but gradually to reach a state where we build a society, a group, we build mutual support, and we use the emotion and the intellect of each one such that each one helps his friend. And to be in that, each one helps the other, in order to direct them to the right direction, to the right approach, and with support from each one to each and everyone. This is how we learn. When each and everyone relates in this way to the group by that we build the system of Arvut which actually is a system of complete mutual help of people who want to establish between them the Creator.
To the extent that they are able to establish such as state such relations between them of bestowal, of connections, support, up to love, according to that they start to feel how much the Creator is revealed in these relations. In the Nefesh of Nefesh, Ruach of Nefesh, Neshama of Nefesh, Haya of Nefesh, Yechida of Nefesh, this is how they complete the first degree of coming closer to the Creator, discovering the Creator between them. And after that more. Nefesh of Ruach, Ruach of Ruach, Neshama of Ruach, Haya of Ruach, Yechida of Ruach, they complete the second degree and so on, all the 125 at degrees. It is all in that they connect between them and they search for how to reach the revelation of such relations which are mutual bestowal, mutual support up to mutual love. And then on all of these degrees in which they climb the internal emotional connection between them, this is how they discover the Creator between them. The relations between, those are called the revelation of the Creator between them.
3. S. (13:47) You try to feel the ten connected and the friends in it but what’s added to this sense of connection with their friends to discover as you said the different levels of the Soul?
R. Only the connection between us in order to cause contentment to the Creator through that. To make the Creator happy by us connecting like good children who play between them nicely in order to make the mother happy.
4. S. (14:50) I would like to clarify. If I help the friends to do this connection in this place in my actions does that bring the light?
R. Of course there are many actions that the person can perform. From actions that are more connected to corporeality to connections to actions that only support, but nevertheless it is worthwhile to do whatever we can. Anything that is in your power and ability to do, do it.
5. S. (15:31) The form of the work of correcting the evil inclination through the good inclination is this also in the first stage meaning the incomplete structure?
R. We work on the structure on connecting ourselves with which forces of bestowal and mutual support when we put together this system of Arvut, mutual responsibility. This is the structure where each one supports the other and everyone builds this system, this network which is complete, that is supported by each and everyone. To the extent that each is incorporated in the others as much as possible, he wants to support the others and care for the others, to that extent he is in bestowal. So to that extend the Creator is with him, helping him, supporting him and filling his efforts and this is how we build the structure.
S. What is the difference then between the correction of the evil inclination by the good inclination in each of the stages of correction?
R. It’s the fact that we use both the evil inclination and the good inclination in order to correct everything. The good inclination is that we establish the system of Bina, the system of bestowal above the will to receive. This is called working with coarseness Shoresh, root, and Aleph, one, and a little bit of Bet, two. And when we start working with the evil inclination also in order to bestow this is already the degree of ZAT, the bottom seven of Bina which is Hochma and Keter, or ZA and Malchut according to the coursenes. So there we also work with the evil inclination in order to bestow. And we discover the lights of ZAT of Bina, ZA and Malchut meaning the lights of the GAR, the first three, of the Neshama, Haya and Yechida.
S. And for us now the closed degree of correcting the evil inclination by the good inclination, what would that mean?
R. For us it means to reach Nefesh of Nefesh which means we want to be connected between us in such a way that we will feel that we exist in a single system, that we have a heartfelt connection between us and that we depend on each other, we support each other. And in this way we advance from one day to the next, more and more.
6. S. (18:46) Why is the joy only in a complete structure?
R. We feel joy by us connecting above the evil inclination.Wwe are building from the evil inclination, from the stones, from the stony heart we build a structure where the Creator can be and this is called a structure of sanctity.
S. Can we be joyful or shouldn’t we be joyful in each and every state we have?
R. We have to do this with joy if it is spiritual work in order to bestow contentment to the Creator, in order for us to build a structure and we are actually the rocks, the stones in the walls of the building and the Creator can dwell in us.
S. What is a structure?
R. The structure is a system of 10 Sefirot.
S. What makes the structure a complete structure?
R. That all of it is in order to bestow.
S. So before it’s complete there’s no place for joy? We are not happy about that?
R. There is a joy from the moment we started building. We should nevertheless be happy that we reach a state where we can build, we can do something, we can be built, this is already great joy.
S. What is the joy of the complete structure, what is that?
R. This is already a place where is there is the bringing in the guest, the Creator inside.
S. And this is the final correction, the joy of the complete structure?
R. I do not know but let's say that yes, this is the end of correction. There are many stages before the end of correction.
7. S. (21:06) Is it possible to maintain the Kedusha as a constant within the structure?
R. It comes in parts, I cannot say. It comes gradually and gradually, you will see how it happens. The most important is that we are coming closer to it, that we are actually beginning to build this structure in practise. Let's start, let's start it.
8. S. (21:48) The state that we are building and reaching, is it the same state?
R. Of course not. R. I cannot be truly against a friend, rather if we disagree on something, if it’s corporeal then we can scrutinize it in the group but if it is spiritual then I need to work on myself.
S. What are the vessels of reception? We feel there’s a connection between vessels of reception and the evil inclination. What’s the connection?
R. The uncorrected vessels of reception, that’s the evil inclination. It is evil itself.
11. S. (23:40) You said the build the structure from the Stony heart. How can we do that, how we overcoming and rise above that?
R. Do not take this example in a corporeal way that we are building some building or structure. Don’t do it this way. I realize that you are an architect and you are beginning to think already according to your profession. But we try to connect our hearts and although they are all different, they are all contradictory, they are all repelled from each other we nevertheless want to bring them closer. If they will work together in one structure, they’ll hold the building in a complete manner even though they are all contradictory.
This is how we build the walls and everything that is inside of this building such that each and every part is contradictory to what is next to it; however we hold them together more and more so they would work in harmony between them. And this is how we build the structure and maintain it. In its form the reach up to the completion of the entire structure, up to the end of correction. Along the way of course we always have problems how to hold ourselves more and more, like the students of Rabbi Shimon who wanted to kill each other and they had great fights, that is all along the way to the correct building.
We also have it in our history such records of how much they would discover the hatred, such that they could not even understand from where does such an eruption of hatred come among the friends. That earlier they were together for years and nothing happened. Well there were little arguments just like among all people but here suddenly such a great hatred appears and it was truly like between evil animals that cannot stand each other, that are wanting to kill each other. This is truly the revelation of evil that happens along the way between people, it is very high, very great, and one who is greater than his friend his inclination is greater. Therefore among people who are destined for great spiritual work they have very big evil inclination, and it is revealed in such a way that they cannot do anything with it. That only the Creator is capable of this and we need to understand how much here what we need to do is only to bow down and ask, and most important is patience. More and more to give the Creator an opportunity to work on us, to change the evil inclination from one day to the next, to correct to some extent between us. We from one day to the next begin more and more to get to know who we are and how to ask and how to use the Creators help, etc. This is not simple but we will go through this, don’t you worry. The Creator makes sure that you will be under the right treatment.
12. S. (28:23) In building the structure first we work with the good inclination and then the evil inclination or we alternate frequently?
R. Let's put it this way, I’m not going to tell you that first. We do not have in us the good inclination. We begin with the evil inclination, a very small one but when something shines to us saying that it is worthwhile for us to give up on the evil inclination in order for us to advance, this is how we advance. And later on along with that the evil incrimination grows. And it requires forces from the connection between us, from the Arvut and we advance that way. In short each time along the way we have different kinds, and we will also find that in the writings of Rabash, Baal HaSulam how much those articles will help us. That actually it’s what a kind of connection between us can help us in each and every case, how much must not forget that the friend next to me is actually the only support that I have in life and in this way we will advance.
S. I would like to clarify. I heard that the evil inclination is to receive in order to bestow?
R. The will to receive. But we can work with the will to receive above the will to receive which is called to bestow in order to bestow. It’s possible to receive in the will to receive itself, to fill it even with the upper light which is called receiving in order to bestow, that’s it. If I work with the will to receive only with the coarseness of root and 1 and half of 2, then I work with it in bestowing in order to bestow. I still do not feel that I can enjoy true reception and therefore in that I can be connected with others, to receive from one side and pass it onto the other side and so on. But if I already work with my coarseness, with my greater ego, with the coarseness of 3 and 4 then I can no longer pass it to the other. So there is here a more advanced method where I have to receive in order to bestow, and this is the true, complete bestowal where my will to receive also becomes the bestower. We need to read more of these articles, the short ones, the long ones, it doesn’t matter. And more and more over a few years you will attain this whole wisdom in actuality.
13. S. (32:18) It says delight them with a complete structure but there also delight of bestowal from an incomplete structure. So do I have to allow the Creator to lead me where He wants between these two states?
R. These are the two halves along the way. Delight them with an incomplete structure, that nevertheless you are in the vessels of bestowal in order to bestow and you enjoy the light of Hassadim that fills you. The second half of the way is when you are already work with the vessels of reception in order to bestow and then you are in a complete structure, working with a complete structure. As it says here delight them with a complete structure. This is the end of the work and the purpose of the work in all of the 10 Sefirot. All of man’s vessels are in order to bestow and then the Creator fills him meaning with his ten, the Kli that he has built, and then he is delighted with a complete structure and this is called working with all of your heart with both your inclinations.
14. S. (33:53) How to build a solid foundation for the structure?
R. This is what you build in the relations between you in the group. Right now you are actually building the foundations of your spiritual structure as much as you understand it. Only in the connection between you can you build this building, this structure. Therefore strengthening the connection between the friends according to what we read in the articles, this is actually the construction of the building of Adam HaRishon, you’re beginning that now on your side. And this is how it is with each and every ten of ours, it builds it’s heart. And later on we will work on connecting between the tens. With this is we will receive the plan of work from the Creator.
15. S. (35:09) What does it mean to be against the friend? Your answer was that you have to check if it is a corporeal or a spiritual matter. If it is corporeal we can clarify it in the group and if it is spiritual I have to work on myself. Can we expand what it means a corporeal or spiritual issue with the friend?
R. It is a method of feeling in the heart. I can’t say if you do this it will be more spiritual if you do that it will be more corporeal. These are things that a person has to scrutinize on his own and there are no precise discernments here or some measuring device so we can measure where it is, but we must not stop at that. Meaning that we should not put it on the side but we should continue searching for a tighter and stronger connection between us. This is what we need, there is nothing we can do about it.
Reading article 24 To Serve Me (36:57 - 37:37)
16. R. (37:40) And when he corrects in this way, his sight, his perception of the world, when he no longer sees any flaws then he discovers that the whole world is only full of the upper force.
Rav reads (38:08)
“It is written that the whole world was created only to serve Me,” meaning in order to help me, in what? “According to the interpretation of the Baal HaSulam, it means that all the flaws that the person sees in others, he believes that they are his, therefore he has what to correct. It follows that the whole world serves him by providing him , showing him all kinds of falls that he sees in them but he accepts them as his flaws by providing him with his own flaws and he does not need to look by himself instead they are doing him a great favor.” By, in what, by providing him with his flaw meaning I look at the world at the still, vegetative, animate and speaking level, everywhere and especially between people, where I see flaws and these are my flaws. If I would be, if I were complete I would not see anything in the world except for the Creator's bestowal to the world; meaning the Shechina, the revelation of the Shechina. And as it is, I see all kinds of flaws and the transgressions and I see a broken Shechina and this is all only because I am in an ugly state, a corrupted state myself.
17. S. (40:04) What does it mean “faults”?
R. Anything I see and I do not like, anything that I see and I dislike. Not according to my view or not compatible with my desire, that means that my desire is wrong, that my view is wrong, in short that I am wrong. If I would be whole I would not see anything in the world besides the appearance of the upper force through every one, upon all of us, fulfilling every one, orchestrating every one and there is None else besides Him.
S. So it turns out that the correction of the flaws that I see, it’s not that I will love it, not that I didn’t love it and it’s been corrected but it is the Shechina?
R. It is the same thing, you have to correct yourself in such a way that you see that you are inside Divinity and it fulfills you and governs you. We have to become corrected in order to see the Creator, the upper force, everywhere.
S. For this purpose I was given these faults?
R. All of the flaws you see in everybody else in the world, in all levels of still, vegetative, animate, human, you feel it only in order to correct your attitude towards everybody. So in that sense everything was created for you and you were created to correct yourself and thus see the whole world as the appearance of the upper force, the Creator.
18. S. (42:20) It says that the flaw I see in others, in order for me to be able to correct this flaw I see in others I somehow have to attribute this to myself, how to do this correctly?
R. Work in a simple way: what you do not think of as good or nice that means you are seeing flaws in the world instead of seeing the Shechina. So you do not need to turn anything around, just in a direct way, wherever I see bad things that implies that I am broken.
S. But all the troubles in the world occur because people are trying to correct what they see?
R. Soif those people would not see the evil and would not try to correct the evil then the world would be as it was, and when they come to correct the evil, so to speak, they bring about great suffering, on one hand and on the other hand, the suffering that they bring about to each other advance them towards corrections and ultimately they will come to a point where they do not have to do anything in the world besides that good connection between people will reorganize everything.
S. This means that if we say that the person only sees projections so that the flaws are the results of these projections so these forms of the flaws, they have a certain root and we need to correct the projections or the root?
R. We only have to correct ourselves and nothing outside of ourselves. We need to work with people outside of ourselves because we live in a physical world but spiritual speaking, we have to correct only our perception, that we see the world in a form that appears to us as broken. But in fact, we are broken, none of us would see any flaw in the world if we has no flaw within us: “one judges through his own flaws.”
S. But to correct the perception, it is not to correct the problem or the root of the problem?
R. If I correct myself to the point that I do not see a flaw that means I am corrected, and if we do so, then we correct ourselves and then we see that the whole flaws in our own perception of reality and not reality itself because reality is the Creator, Himself.
19. S. (45:47) If y in the ten some flaws appears, so what should we say: that we are not corrected this is why we see the flaw but the flaw exists. Let's say that the friend says we need to pray and the other one says we do not have to do anything, and the third one talks in terms of all kinds of objects but the flaw remains?
R. I do not understand you guys, you have been studying many years and you do not understand that reality is what you project to yourself inside of you and you think that reality is the way it is, just reality outside? There is no such thing, what is real outside of man is only the Creator, the upper force. So we only have to engage with Him, that is if you want to embrace the Kabbalists' perception and not some philosophers or politicians or whoever, think about it.
20. S. (47:19) If the person instead of seeing Shechina, he sees faults, flaws?
R. He has to understand that all that he sees is his own flaw, not in anybody else, so if he corrects himself he does not see these faults on the outside, he doesn’t. Of course we are talking about the state of the final correction here but ultimately this is the truth.
S. So I need to ask that the Creator would correct me?
R. You have to ask the Creator to correct you in the way that you will see the truth and the truth is that the upper force dwells in the world and there is None else besides Him?
S. But this is the most difficult because usually I see that it is not me but something outside of me.
R. Certainly not simple, it’s not simple but you have to ask the Creator to correct the vessels of perception and then you’ll see that the whole world is the Shechina that is present and is fulfils you.
S. But this is not always clear enough.
R. I agree, it is difficult, I agree that is nearly impossible but the more we portray these things to ourselves, the closer we get to the truth.
S. This means that it’s mine and I have to feel it isn't mine and I have to constantly think about it and imagine it?
R. Preferably, yes.
21. S. (49:29) When we talk about connection, does it mean we accept ‘love your friend as yourself' as the choice, the principle, is that we are talking about when we are correcting our connections?
R. Yes, ultimately because we see that the main flaws are in the relations between us and other people, that is the major part of all the flaws and this is why the general correction is ‘love thy friends as thyself’. That if you correct your attitude to people, because it is the top layer of our ego, by this you correct your entire relationship to the whole of nature: still, vegetative, animate and speaking.
22. S. (50:41) The question is about the verse where it says, “he believes that they are his, therefore he has what to correct”, so if he believes that the faults are his own, what does he do in order to correct?
R. We see reality through four phases of our will to receive so we are not seeing the truth reality, which is the upper light, but we are seeing how our broken will to receive clothes that upper light and as the upper light passing through the will to receive we somewhat feel it this way and that way through the flaws, the brokenness that it passed through. So the general correction is ‘love thy friend as thyself’, that if you relate to others as yourself then you neutralize your ego and that your will to receive becomes neutralized, transparent, corrected, this is what it is about.
23. S. (52:21) I see that you with your words, you change me and you shift me from evil to good, so don't you also operate to change the external and the world from evil to good?
R. I cannot do that and no Kabbalists is capable of doing this; and even if he was, there is a little bit written about it, a Kabbalist would not do that because by that he would rob us of our ability to correct ourselves which means robbing us of our work and therefore our reward, the final correction. So how do we approach the world with our broken vessels, we cannot see a corrected world, so if my ability is to correct my vessels is taken from me then I will remain the way I am forever. So stop dreaming and start working, connection, start somewhat to work on truth connection and then you will see how it changes all of your reality.
24. S. (53:50) Being aware of the lack of connection between us and being happy in this lack, how can we succeed at this, where is the pill?
R. Start connecting between you in tens or groups of five, it doesn't matter, but make connections between you and start seeing how by this change for the better towards connection you will start to feel getting closer to the Creator, better understanding, better feeling Him, you’ll see, just make efforts and exercises in that.
25. S. (54:59) Sometimes you see that it makes you so angry that you forget about the Creator, you forget about the friends, and you seemingly fall. Can we avoid this or shorten these periods of time?
R. I understand you do not want to suffer, on one hand but on the other hand, you have to see what is more important: to attain something or to remain calm and not attain anything. Any achievement, any endeavor, any work, any benefit that requires investment, so do the calculation. If you and your friends gradually build the system of connection between you will then you begin to feel how the system eases everybody’s work and you do not need to put in a lot of power but just together somewhat come closer to each other, and you will already feel how much you understand better, feel better, get closer from that point where you were distant and you made a little bit of a step closer, you see how you start to understand and feel more and this is how you start to attain spirituality. Only there, “from the depths I have called upon You”, meaning specifically from those places of disconnect and separation you ask for connection and thus you attain.
26. S. (56:58) Does it mean that first of all I have to work with those flaws the Creator is presenting to me in the ten?
R. Certainly, where else would you want to work? Only where you have problems that you haven't sealed 100%, your connection with the friends where your hearts are still not connected as one.
27. S. (57:44) I look at a friend and I see that he's suffering, he has some problem, it doesn't matter what it is, when I correct the state, what would I see? Will I see that the state of the friend remains the same and it’s just that I will think he is no longer suffering or will he truly stop suffering?
R. You start working and then bring us all kinds of incidents like that and then we’ll talk about it, we will discuss this. There’s some things here that could lead you to make mistakes.
28. S. (58:25) Why even work with the flaws, simply say that it cleans us, purifies us and reforms us above these flaws. Why work with them or even respond to them?
R. It is your vessels, what do you mean? How can you advance if you have no vessels, no deficiencies? It is like hunger, like appetites, like all kinds of negative discernments without which you would not know which to correct, how to accept the correction. Did you study in school?
S. Yes, I did, I forgot.
R. Well, It doesn't look like that, tell me, why were you given lessons all the time or homework to do, exercises at home or in the class, all these exercises, why? Think about: how can we advance if we do not identify the flaws? We have to understand the flaw and where it stems from, and how we can recorrect it and then we correct it. And in correcting it, I connect to the Creator and the friends and then together by strengthening the connection between us, I correct the flaw. You are not thinking sufficiently about what we are studying, what is a broken vessel?
S. There are simply problems with the translation, I was asking about something else. If we already have a place where I, let's say, I want to drink and I'm thirsty so I drink water and a minute later I feel a lot better. So if we are saying that there is a place already, a place which is good for us and we just need to move there, so we do not touch the correction of the deficiencies, flaws, itself, the thirst, we just need to be in that place.
R. You cannot be together if you do not feel how disconnected you are, you are talking very much incorrectly, I do not know where you get it from. Instead of asking me all the time, just read again and again what is written. It’s not correct, it’s just incorrect. Do not think that what you understand is right, start reading from knowing nothing.
