Part 1: Baal HaSulam. Introduction to The Book of Zohar. #17

Reader: Shalom, we are reading from the writings of Baal HaSulam, we're reading from the introduction to the book of Zohar, item 17. You can find the study materials in the study material tab in the Arvut system. You can also ask questions live. If you have some questions from the study hall, make sure you have a microphone and stand up and ask loudly and clearly. Introduction to the book of Zohar, item 17.

Reading Item 17: (00:33) “From all the above, we thoroughly understand…”

M. Laitman: (04:41) Any questions? No. Okay. Let's continue.

Reading Item 18: (04:54): “This settles our fifth inquiry: How could…”

Student: (07:38) Baal HaSulam says here that we were born eternal, and this shell of the body is transitory and so forth. In another place, he gives the king's allegory that he prepares for his beloved son the best delicacies and music and everything, but the son is deaf and blind and so forth. So, what's the right way to look at it then?

M. Laitman: He gives such examples that we have to go from the incomplete state to the complete state. When we're on this path we learn something. In this way, we have a deeper understanding of who the Creator is, how good He is, and what exactly is our work and that’s it, all these changes are toward us.

Student: It's difficult for a person, at least for me, to relate in that way. I'm this wasteful, transitory creature living only for seventy years or so and I don't feel the goodness of the Creator in that.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: It's hard to relate to what he says that it's just all transitory and so forth.

M. Laitman: So, what's the question?

Student: What to learn from it, what can we take from it? I understand the system is different, that the Creator created us in an eternal form.

M. Laitman: You remind me of what he writes elsewhere that you don't show to a person a work that is half-done.

Student: Yes, but that's how He built us. He built us ignorant.

M. Laitman: Right, we would learn from all the stages we have to go through, who we are, probably to understand more correctly who the Creator is and what is our final stop, to which we have to reach, with all this learning that we acquire over time.

Student: Let's say I believe the end is good. Let's say, what does that give?

M. Laitman: It lets you understand, have a better understanding of what the end is, how you need to be completed with it, and what you have to reach. In the end, it's all directed toward the end of the work. We'll wait.

Student: (10:38) He says, we've already said that this form of our body, which is the will to receive for itself, doesn't even exist in the eternal thought of creation.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: That's where we are in the third state. What is He saying? That our life is a dream, an illusion, not real? That everything we think of is?

M. Laitman: I don't know. That depends on the definitions. What is a dream, what is not a real form, what is a real form? It's clear that we have to change our relation to ourselves to the Creator, to life, and advance, advance toward His form, which is only to bestow.

Student: He says this thing doesn't exist. What you see here doesn't even exist in the eternal thought of creation.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: All that we perceive ourselves as broken, all of that is?

M. Laitman: It doesn't exist.

Student: So, what do we do with that perception?

M. Laitman: Imagination.

Student: That's what we have in front of our eyes.

M. Laitman: Okay. So, you're living in a world that is imaginary or that doesn't exist forever. Of course, it doesn't exist forever, obviously because what exists forever is only the complete form and all the forms along the way are in order for us to improve in our thoughts, desires, and intentions.

Student: He says this world doesn't exist at all. That all that you see doesn't exist in the thought of creation at all.

M. Laitman: But in our thoughts, it exists.

Student: That's a problem.

M. Laitman:  It's not a problem. Just accept it this way with respect to the Creator. From the perspective of the Creator, there's the final form and that's where He leads us, through all those forms that we imagine along the way in our imaginary world.

Reading Item 19: (12:55) “With this we settle our fourth inquiry…”

M. Laitman: Any questions?

Student: (17:02) He writes in the previous item that there is nothing to ask about the other created beings but only man.

M. Laitman: Because everyone, all of them are incorporated in man.

Student: Then he says we will only get to the good state if all the people of the world agree to take on the different forms of bestowal. Do we depend on all the people of the world or not?

M. Laitman: There it says all the creations of the world. Here it says all the people in the world. The difference is if it's talking about people or everything that was created.

Student: Oh, so the other creations meaning still, vegetative, animate?

M. Laitman: Yes, yes, yes. More?

Student: (17:54) It's written in item 17, that we received the wasteful transitory body in order to correct it but then we get rid of it. What does it mean to correct this body if then it disappears?

M. Laitman: It disappears because it's in order to receive. When we correct it, it disappears gradually.

Student: What does it mean to correct? Because the whole goal is ultimately to get rid of this shell.

M. Laitman: No, but you shift it into in order to bestow.

Student: Here we're saying that this is called correcting it but afterwards we completely dispose of this form and take on a different body.

M. Laitman: The eternal one.

Student: Yes, we all continue with the same body we received in the second state. We correct it, get rid of it, and then receive the third form.

M. Laitman: Because probably that will to receive that we will have after the correction during the 6,000 years of our desire is a new desire.

Student: (19:21) He writes that basically the suffering has a purpose, that it's revelations. It's not for no reason.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: When suffering comes what do we ask? What's the prayer?

M. Laitman: We, on top of the suffering, can turn to the Creator and ask Him for corrections, to correct our will to receive what we feel and reveal now in a way that causes us bad feelings.

Student: What do we want to see in the suffering?

M. Laitman: In the suffering, we want to see the revelation of inequality between us and the Creator.

Student: (30:36) Rav he writes that all of these sufferings only dwell on the shell of this body, which was only born for death. So, this teaches us that the will to receive for itself was only built in order to be eradicated, abolished from the world, and be turned into a desire to bestow. Is it two different things? The shell of our body which was only born for death and burial and the will to receive in Him that needs to be eradicated and abolished from the world?

M. Laitman: No.

Student: Is it the same then?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: Okay, I thought that, yes. Okay, yes.

Question (Belarus): (21:18) How does the path of suffering lead a person to the purpose of creation?

M. Laitman: Well, by the suffering he wrote here, the suffering only shows us how incompatible we are with our role, and in order to push us forward.

Question (Women Moscow 8): (21:44) What is the shell of the evil body?

M. Laitman: It's the intention to receive. The desire itself is not bad but the intention to receive is bad.

Question (Women PT 10): (22:09) How do you cancel the shell of the evil body?

M. Laitman: Through prayer, first of all, because only the Creator knows how to do it.

Question (PT 31): (22:23) What are we lacking in order to justify the second state and work on it consciously as a means for progress?

M. Laitman: We need to know the evil in us, that it is in inequivalence of form, and ask for correction.

Student: What could help us in order to hold on to the third state when we're in the second state that seems like chaos?

M. Laitman: When all of us together begin to work on the gap, on the difference between us and the Creator, which is our will to receive, and each of us and all of us together will try to pray to cancel it. We have nothing else to do besides that.

Question (Women MAK 21): (23:26) What's the meaning of the end of suffering for man?

M. Laitman: That through his prayer, he corrects the gap between him and the Creator.

Question (Africa): (23:48) Why shouldn't we ponder the state of the other created beings but man?

M. Laitman: Because they have no free choice in them and there's no recognition of evil in them.

Question (Women Turkiye 8): (24:07) What's the difference between bestowing to a friend and bestowing to the Creator?

M. Laitman: No difference.

Question (Women Turkiye 7): (24:26) We read in the first paragraph of item 18, that our eternalness necessitates that the shell of the body which is only given for us to work, will be wasteful and transitory because if it would stay eternal, we would stay separated from the Life of Lives forever. What does it mean to be separated from the Life of Lives forever?

M. Laitman: I don't know. Disconnected from the Creator without any chance of returning to Him with some connection. Basically, this way.

Question (KABU 4): (25:06) What to do with desires if we're not sure whether they're in order to bestow or not?

M. Laitman: We scrutinize along the way.

Reading Item 20: (25:21) “After all that we have said, we come…” Twice.

Student: (33:10) We're talking about some eternal part and some transient part? So, it's all about what a person identifies with,

M. Laitman: Yes, Let’s say.

Student: If in the path of Torah, a person initiates moving towards the Creator, but he sees the will to receive prevents him. From that he comes to a state where he asks not to identify with the will to receive, yes?

M. Laitman: In order to receive, the will to receive itself is not a problem, only the intention.

Student: How can the path of suffering also lead you to that state if there is no recognition of evil?

M. Laitman: Without recognition of evil, you cannot correct anything.

Student: If a person doesn't go towards correction proactively, intentionally, then there's no such, there's no will to receive that prevents me from reaching the Creator.

M. Laitman: I didn't understand, speak a little slower. The will to receive in order to receive begins to feel that it cannot remain in the desire in order to receive, but rather it has to get rid of its intention to receive and shift to in order to bestow. Yes.

Student: This is the path of Torah, yes?

M. Laitman: That's the path of Torah, and then in this, he has according to how much he wants, how much he realizes that in order to receive is bad. By this, he receives a force that corrects him.

Student: So, what's not clear is in the path of suffering, which is where we are not actually correcting the vessels, right?

M. Laitman: Yes and no.

Student: How does this path also work to reach the goal?

M. Laitman: There's a part from the corrupted will to receive which a person asks for correction, receives from the Creator, and corrects, and there's a part of the will to receive which he cannot ask for it and reveal it and correct it, and this remains for the suffering. Let's put it this way, there’s a will to receive that is entirely in order to receive. A certain portion that is revealed, which is in order to receive, you discover that it's bad for you. This means you already recognize the evil, which is in order to receive, and the in order to receive you want it to be corrected. Let's say that with your prayer it will be corrected and what you don't reveal is corrected is about to be corrected. So, you remain with it for the time being and you correct it after at higher degrees.

Student: Then what is the path of suffering?

M. Laitman: The path of suffering is when you cannot ask for corrections while the intention to receive is revealed. And you are with them, and then they accumulate and through them you come to the recognition of evil through the suffering.

Student: (37:14) If you can explain the paragraph. He writes, “Although we have not come to the third state in practice, and we are still lacking time, it still does not blemish us in any way, the essence of our being, because our third state is necessitated, is mandatory, because of the first state and all that is deemed to be collected is deemed collected and because of the lack of time which is regarded as a deficiency is only in a place where there is a doubt if you will complete what needs to be completed at that time. And because we have no doubt about it, it is for us as if we have already come to the third state, and that body in its evil form that is given to us now does not blemish our essence, since it and all its possessions are about to be completely revoked along with all the system of impurity. And all that is deemed to be burned is deemed burned and is regarded as if it never existed.”

M. Laitman: What are you asking?

Student: I'm asking what kind of existence do we have in the second stage.

M. Laitman: When we discover the gap between us and the Creator, and on that gap, we pray that the Creator will cancel it.

Student: We just constantly have to be recognizing, and just continue recognizing? Is that our work?

M. Laitman: No, you're moving to actions in order to bestow.

Student: It happens on me, but I'm like a spectator.

M. Laitman: Well, I don't know. Let's say so. Then what? Yes, yes, yes, yes. You observe and you discover that you're different from the Creator, and you're asking for correction over that difference.

Student: (39:45) According to what we read in the last few items, I see corruption in the friend or in the Ten. How do I correct them?

M. Laitman: That's already another topic.

Student: It seems to me like everything he's writing here, we are in the Tens, we see corruptions.

M. Laitman: So, the corruption is in you.

Student: Fine but beyond it, now I want to correct it.

M. Laitman: So?

Student: He says there are states of wholeness, the third state. What should I do? Draw corrections from there and try to depict a complete state?

M. Laitman: You want to cancel the reason why you are opposite to the Creator.

Student: I'm different from the Creator.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: And I see a friend as corrupted.

M. Laitman: That's why you see the friend as corrupted.

Student: Why can't I see him as corrupted?

M. Laitman: You don't see corruptions outside of you.

Student: If I don't look at the friend as being corrupted, and I'll really work on him being corrected so I'll kind of ignore it.

M. Laitman: No. In order to advance towards corrections in the corrected third state you have to correct yourself. And in seeing flaws in others it indicates that you are corrupted.

Student: Intellectually, I understand what you're saying, but in practice, I do all kinds of things in a corrected way and the friend isn't doing them. He does them in a corrupted way. So, the friend is corrupted?

M. Laitman: That's how it appears to you, yes.

Student: But that's in practice. What my eyes see, that's the way it is. That's what I see.

M. Laitman: So, you still can't discover the evil.

Student: Why do we sometimes say that we have to pray that the friend will be corrected?

M. Laitman: To the extent that you feel that he is flawed.

Student: I'm saying that he's corrupted.

M. Laitman: That he's corrupted in your eyes. So, you're asking for correction. But the correction is in you.

Student: Everything is in me. The whole world is in me, but I want to correct it. I don't want to see the corruptions anymore.

M. Laitman: Then pray.

Student: Fine. So now I need to pray.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: What do you ask?

M. Laitman: That the Creator will correct you.

Student: Not the friend. But I'm doing everything correctly. What's to correct in me? I'm doing everything correctly.

M. Laitman: Except for one thing. That all the corruptions we see outside of you indicate that these corruptions are all inside of you.

Student: Okay, fine. How do I describe the connection with the friends? So, I'll stop seeing these corrections. What do I need to do?

M. Laitman: You have to ask the Creator to correct you. To the point that you see no flaw outside of you.

Student: Fine. So, I need to draw from the third state. I have to connect to the friend in the corrected state.

M. Laitman: I don't know. You'll ask from the Creator, and he'll set it up.

Student: What's the difference between ignoring the corruption I see in the friend and really correcting it?

M. Laitman: When you ignore the correction of the friend, meaning you shift the correction to yourself, and you say, I'm to blame. Not him. It's a corruption in me and not in him. And I need to make corrections. And I have to pray for myself. I have to see outside of me a perfect world.

Student: Fine. So the correction is me. What do I need to correct? I'm working correctly. What do I need to correct? I can't ask from the bottom of my heart if I don't see corruptions in me, I see the corruptions in the friend.

M. Laitman: This is the problem. The problem is you see the corruption in the friend. And you need to be asking for correction on yourself.

Student: I'm willing to ask. But what should I ask?

M. Laitman: To not see the friend as corrupted.

Student: Just like that? I want to see the friend as corrected?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: I should cry until I see the friend is corrected. Is that my problem, that I don't see the friend is corrected?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: Okay.

Student: (44:43) In this whole article he talks about the system of the world that goes away, they have to be in bestowal. Suddenly he tells us that bestowal upon one's friend brings him to bestow upon the Creator, that's the first time the matter of the friend comes in. Moreover, he says how we come out from the second to the third state when all the people in the world agree unanimously to cancel the will to receive for themselves, and if they have no other desire but to bestow upon their friends, they complete all the suffering, torments, slaughtering and they're rewarded with the perfect life. Who are all the people in the world? They have to agree unanimously, and how come all of a sudden you have friends here until now he talked about the system of souls and then correction. Why did the Creator do this and do that? What ways there are to correct and what states? Suddenly a friend comes in, who is this friend who is now taking me from the second to this third state? It even says more, about the commandments between a person and his friend. Previously, we said that a person has to bestow upon the Creator. The soul has to change its nature to bestow like the Creator and suddenly there's something more important. There are commandments between man and man that are more important than the commandments between man and the Creator.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: What is he trying to tell us here?

M. Laitman: He wants to tell you; he wants to tell you where truly you have a problem. And the problem is how you see the friends. That's it. How do you see them?

Student: Disconnected from me. I don't want more suffering or problems.

M. Laitman: I watch that you don't want, the fact you don't want it, that's clear to us.

Student: What does it mean to bestow upon a friend?

M. Laitman: What appears to you is the extent to which you only care for yourself.

Student: That's clear.

M. Laitman: So, you need to equalize your relation to yourself to your relation to the friend. What, what are you posing like that? What do you want me to do?

Student: It's like I'm given a condition now that is impossible. He tells me you want to get rid of wars, troubles, and suffering.

M. Laitman: Well, the fact that's impossible. That's that. I understand we can see it on you. What's next?

Student: I'm saying think about them, worry about them?

M. Laitman: Yes, if you can't, you can't. All right, so you pray. If you don't feel that you need it, then pray to feel that you need it.

Reading Item 21: (48:03) “Do not be led astray by the philosophers…”

Student: (53:00) What is he saying in the first two paragraphs when he comes to determine that the mind is a possession and not the possessor?

M. Laitman: That it can be acquired, bought, like we learn something in school or university.

Student: What does it mean that it's not the actual possessor? It's what is the influence of the environment, what is it?

M. Laitman: That I can communicate fulfillments from my intellect to another intellect, and it doesn't hurt my intellect at all.

Student: He means, does he mean logic, reason?

M. Laitman: Reason, desire, it's not exactly; it's fulfillment that we have from the mind or the intellect is what a person acquires from learning through the environment. Okay.

Okay, this will be clear to us more, soon. But no more questions on item 21, no? Okay, so item 22.

Reading Item 22: (54:54) “These three desires are present in most…”

M. Laitman: Understood?

Student: (55:32) What does it mean, that last sentence?

M. Laitman: These three desires are mostly in every person however; they merge in each one in different values. That makes for the changes, the variations, between each and every person.

Student: In the last sentence, “From the corporeal attributes, we can deduce about the spiritual objects.”

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: What does that mean?

M. Laitman: That like we have differences in our view of the world, likewise, there are differences between us in the perception of the spiritual reality.

Student: But what does it mean “that from the corporeal attributes,” like there's a person, everyone is like an equalizer of desires?

M. Laitman: Yes, yes?

Student: Some desire for honor, for control. He says, “Accordingly you can deduce to the spiritual objects.” What does that mean?

M. Laitman: Well, we do not really understand that yet, but more or less that is how it is so. That, like a person is built in an external corporeal form, he is probably also structured in his inner structure.

Student: In other words, a person's physical expression in this world testifies to his spiritual internality? A person with more tendency for honor or power, or for this or for that; in spirituality, does he also have that root?

M. Laitman: Probably so.

Student: Because we learn, in the essence of the wisdom of Kabbalah, we learn the upper one, the lower one from the upper one, and we can never deduce from below upward. Here it says we can. “In the corporeal attributes, we can deduce about the spiritual objects.” From looking at this world, at corporeal attributes, I can somehow deduce about spiritual attributes.

M. Laitman: Yes, that is what he writes.

Student: (58:13) They have no correction; they die as they were born. And man has intellect, which seems like an addition to the regular beast.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: What is this instrument that he received, how does it serve him in order to have an advantage over the beast? What is the use he can do with it?

M. Laitman: It is a special device that, first of all, is their recognition of evil that he can achieve and from here he can improve. The one who does not get to it, then “they are all seen as beasts,” it is written about them. That one is really only in corporeal development.

Student: In other words, man's intellect is only to make comparisons between existing and desirable in order to come to the corrected state, is that it?

M. Laitman: That is it? Yes.

Student: (59:24) How are these forms of lust and for honor and for knowledge, how are they connected to the separation between us in the second state? Why does it and why is it expressed in such desires, the corruption?

M. Laitman: I do not understand.

Student: I'll rephrase: How are these desires, he writes about, tendencies in every person, like passion for money, for honor, for power? How are these desires connected to the second state, how do they separate us from the third state?

M. Laitman: In each and every desire there is what it perceives, what it is impressed by, and what it is drawn to.

Student: And does that separate us from the corrective, from a desirable state?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: In what, why?

M. Laitman: Depending on what you want, what kind of fulfillment you want to have in that desire.

Student: What is the need for the separation in the second state to clothe specifically these desires, passions for honor, for knowledge?

M. Laitman: These are degrees, degrees of man's attraction.

Student: And why does it separate us from the corrected state?

M. Laitman: Because you begin to engage in that, and that is where you stop.

Student: In other words, in the corrective state, these desires don't exist?

M. Laitman: In the correct state, no. Everything becomes as a single desire aimed at the Creator.

Student: What is one desire that's directed for the Creator, what is it?

M. Laitman: All the desires unify in a single desire, which is all aimed towards the Creator to bring Him contentment.

Student: These desires for honor, for power, for knowledge, for money, unite in a desire?

M. Laitman: Everything.

Student: What does it mean that they unite in that desire, these desires? What does it mean that they unite in the desire to bring contentment?

M. Laitman: That, their whole purpose is to bring contentment to the Creator.

Student: In other words, desires for honor, for power, for money, suddenly become desires to bestow contentment upon the Creator.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: What happens to them, how does that shift happen?

M. Laitman: That, if you have an opportunity, a possibility, to use them in order to bestow contentment to the Creator, then you use them.

Student: What is the right use of one of these desires in order to bring contentment to the Creator?

M. Laitman: The right use is that you see where you can use it to bestow.

Student: How can we bestow the desire for money, for honor, for knowledge? How can we give contentment to the Creator?

M. Laitman: Try and see.

Student: Should a person relinquish these desires in order to be able to give contentment to the Creator?

M. Laitman: To give it up in order to receive, and open them up, in order to bestow.

Student: What does that mean to open them in order to bestow?

M. Laitman: To use them in order to bestow contentment to the Creator.

Student: And what does it mean that they all unite in order to bring contentment to the Creator?

M. Laitman: That you can use them all.

Student: Thank you.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: (01:03:52) It's an interesting phrase. For me, for example, honor is more important than women, than money. But I have no spirituality in me so what can I learn from this about spirituality?

M. Laitman: In the meantime, perhaps nothing, only degrees, but not more. What exactly is spirituality still cannot be understood just from this excerpt.

Student: Can it be used in order to bestow, as you said, is there such a thing?

M. Laitman: Yes, but on the degree at which you might be bestowing to friends, to people, yes.

Student: Honor is this something I should relinquish or forget about, or that doesn't contribute to spirituality?

M. Laitman: We will learn about it but certainly money, honor, knowledge, we have to make concessions of them.

Student: In general, or in some way?

M. Laitman: In general, but it's a gradual process, there, it is degrees. We are not talking about this world, it is not that, like say, you work now, so you give up your salary or some other things like that, that is not it. We have to understand this, we will advance, and we will better understand. What is written here in one line cannot tell you much.

Student: Why relinquish it, honor is a basis for connection. If I don't respect you or him, how do I connect with you?

M. Laitman: Correct, I'm telling you, it is correct, but we will learn, we will learn. If he writes it, then we probably can understand something. So, we will wait, we will be patient.

Reading Item 23: (01:06:19) “Thus, spiritual human souls - through...”

Student: (01:07:20) Rav, it's not very clear. He's talking about the soul as a result of revealing the will to receive in order to receive, making a correction. Then it discovers the soul, the desire to bestow?

M. Laitman: In a way that also the spiritual, human souls through the clothing of reflected light, meaning somewhat corrected, that they receive from the upper worlds from which they come. Have only a desire to bestow contentment upon their Maker, that is what that spiritual soul wants. That desire is their essence and the core of the soul. So far, is it clear?

Student: No, that's exactly the question. What does it mean that “by the clothing of reflected light that they receive from the upper worlds”?

M. Laitman: Well, let us say from Ein Sof, through all the upper worlds, a light descends to her, to that soul, and gives her power, reflected light.

Student: But reflected light is what the lower one raises?

M. Laitman: No, he receives it from above and then he can use it.

Student: It receives strength from above.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: The strength to use reflected light is the Nefesh, is the soul, he's talking about?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: I get it.

M. Laitman: Good.

Reading Item 24: (01:09:14) “The essence of the body is but a desire…”

M. Laitman: Questions?

Student: (01:12:04) What remains of a person when the body dies?

M. Laitman: The body means the flesh.

Student: Yes, that's what I perceive, that's how I understand it.

M. Laitman: What it managed to acquire before.

Student: If it's concepts and intellectual things, nothing remains. What remains from a person after he dies?

M. Laitman: What are you reading that you are completely not understanding what is going on?

Student: I'm asking, he writes that “He and all his possessions are eternal and exist forever, and absence does not affect them whatsoever at the departure of the body. On the contrary, the corrupted form of the body strengthens them.” I didn't read the whole thing. So, regardless, what remains of a person?

M. Laitman: How much he can move towards the desire to bestow.

Student: That's the inclination he has toward bestowal. If he hasn't entered bestowal, he has nothing left.

M. Laitman: Nothing.

Student: What does it mean that something remains and what's before and after? What does that mean?

M. Laitman: Let’s read.

Student: (01:13:36) How can there be a reality of time in the eternal reality, in our time? There's a process here?

M. Laitman: States, there are states that don't belong to, not bound by the time that passes according to your second states. We have to go through.

Student: How can there be an end to these states and there are no such states like that? How can such a reality exist, I don't even know how to ask it. It's so not clear how it could be that at some point, this reality will be canceled or something, a certain number of states will pass that exist. And all of a sudden, personally, just like Baal HaSulam writes there, “eventually, he needs to recognize that at some point, there is good, that there will be a third state.” The question is whether, at some point, really the second state ends and the third state begins in a true way, or I'm just identifying myself in a certain state. What will be with me when we come to the end of the states or am I supposed to come from the state in the second state and recognize it and also recognize the third phase? And the second state, does it disappear?

M. Laitman: The second state disappears; it becomes the third state.

Student: For everyone.

M. Laitman: For everyone, if we are talking about the final correction, that is certainly everyone.

Student: It sounds like there were states that ended at some point, like this countdown, at some point from the beginning of creation that's advancing. At some point, it will end.

M. Laitman: Yes, past and present.

Student: If we were to understand this as far as internality, it's not clear. How there could be a process that has a beginning and an end, and after it's ended, then where did all that exist and does it still exist?

M. Laitman: It exists relative to those who are in development. Everything is relative to the person who attains it, that is what we learn.

Student: There's another thing that he writes here, that somehow, we lack time, and that that's a deficiency. And we can understand, what does that mean, that we’re of no time?

M. Laitman: That we cannot see from one end of the world to the other, we cannot, we lack the mind for it.

Student: (01:16:52) He says that “The essence of the soul is the desire to bestow, and that knowledge is only in the reward.” What is that reward, what does it give?

M. Laitman: What it receives in exchange for trying to get along in that world in which it exists.

Student: And there's an essence, there's the reward?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: What's the benefit of the reward?

M. Laitman: The benefit of the reward is that it can receive the reward, as we call it, and advance using it.

Student: The reward eventually becomes the essence to the desire to bestow?

M. Laitman: The reward becomes a fulfillment and according to the fulfillment, to the filling, it climbs up the degrees.

Student: Just to understand, what is this knowledge that he's talking about?

M. Laitman: According to the extent it is in that system, it understands and feels and works according to the powers that she has.

Student: It's not some intellectual thing that a person acquires knowledge of, it's an experience?

M. Laitman: No, no, no.

Student: This knowledge he's talking about is like experience in life and all that a person goes through?

M. Laitman: Yes, but experience in spiritual life, by correcting himself, and climbing, also falling. But all those outcomes from the path, they bring him these concepts.

Student: So what's the connection between knowledge and the essence that he writes, that is the desire to bestow? Is there a connection between them?

M. Laitman: As much as he continues on the path, he identifies himself with the will to bestow.

Student: Does he simply want to understand whether this experience helps a person move towards the desire to bestow, those attempts?

M. Laitman: Also true, that is also true.

Student: (01:19:34) Is the spiritual soul always beside the physical body of a person or does it clothe it at some point?

M. Laitman: Everything clothes inside one another, like a skin and clothing.

Student: (01:19:55) He says that the soul is the desire to bestow and it's one that went through the correction, yes? Instead of receiving, it's taking out. This is moving us on from these worlds to those worlds. When it exists, it's clear that the mechanism works in that way and now a person is looking for ways to be filled with that desire, yes? What is the filling of the desire to bestow?

M. Laitman: According to the equivalence of form with the Creator.

Student: A person feels the equivalence of form with the Creator as filling, or do I feel it like the filling is for hunger, or all the other things?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: How does it even happen? He doesn't even talk about how this inversion of this engine happens.

M. Laitman: No, in general, he is being very short about everything.

Student: Yes, also from the thing he says, “To know that the commandments between man and his friend are advancing us and from a person wanting to bestow to a friend, he all of a sudden wants to bestow to the Creator.” How is that, what's the connection here?

M. Laitman: By bestowing to his friend, he requires a feeling. What does it mean to bestow to someone outside of you? That is how he comes to bestow to the Creator.

Student: What is to bestow to a friend?

M. Laitman:  Bestow to the friend means that I detect in him certain desires, and feelings that I can help him acquire.

Student: Yesterday, you said a sentence that you have a lot of work, and you haven’t started yet. And when you asked what that means, you said that each has to make room in his heart for the friends.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: How does that happen, that thing? How does making room in your heart for your friends?

M. Laitman: It is not for now.

Student: What is that advice to bestow to a friend if I need to feel the friend in order to bestow to him, right?

M. Laitman: We have to feel the vessels that exist outside of a person in order to bestow to them, yes, pray for them.

Student: But today I don't feel those vessels, maybe in a very limited way. I see that a friend has a certain need but I'm not certain what. So, what do we do?

M. Laitman: We do, we advance, we advance. That is why we have the Ten, and you must incorporate in the desire of the other and so on and so forth.

Student: As far as I'm concerned, it's all games.

M. Laitman: What do you mean, games, there is nothing more important than that.

Student: The game is very important, but I don't really feel the friends, as if I'm trying.

M. Laitman: Even more, the fact that you don't feel it means that you have to invest more in that.

Student: I'm investing more in the game; I'm still trying to feel the friends but I don't really feel them inside of me. Certainly not the way I feel myself.

M. Laitman: That is clear.

Student: When does the game become reality?

M. Laitman: That depends on you, as much as you bestow to the friends, so you advance toward bestowing to the Creator. There is nothing more to say. You have heard it a thousand times, so if you remain wise, you will remain with your wisdom.

Student: (01:24:10) I'll go back to the paragraph. It was read, “And while all the people in the world will agree unanimously to eradicate from the world the will to receive for themselves, and they'll have nothing for themselves, only to bestow to their friends, Then all the concerns and all the harmful ones will be removed from the earth and everyone will live in a healthy life.” In short, it will be very good. Now, the whole thing is that all the people in the world will agree unanimously. We, in the Ten, agree unanimously that really the desire to receive is a horrible thing, and we want to cancel it and to bestow to one another. We agreed, we said, we had a gathering of friends and we all agreed. It's not happening, this agreement, the agreement is just unanimous and although we agreed all to it, and then what? What's next, I don't see it's happening. That if they cancel out this all the harm things will go away.

M. Laitman: These are actions from above.

Student: Meaning, after there's this agreement?

M. Laitman: After we have adhesion in the Ten between us and an agreement where we have to reach, which is also expressed in our prayers. Then accordingly, we activate using our prayer from the upper system and it begins to care for us already on a new level.

Student: (01:26:00) When we discuss matters like sufferings and wars, I identify that sometimes you answer, like yourself now. That in our eternal essence, everything is whole and perfect, and these are corrections that we're going through along the way. But in truth, for our essence, the Creator is caring for us in wholeness. Sometimes there are lessons where people ask you about the Holocaust and tragedies and you don't answer a question within reason. We say there are things that we can't yet understand and you kind of like leave it open. I wanted to ask mostly when we answer students, is there a reason why sometimes you give an explanation, and sometimes you don't give an explanation or an answer to it?

M. Laitman: I do not give an answer which, in our mind, our intellect, we cannot digest.

Student: I'm mostly asking: We had like new campuses opening, and we have students that are coming now, and they just experienced loss in the most horrible states possible. This explanation that we are points in the heart, and they're already in Ein Sof, and everything is a very logical, beautiful explanation. But the pain is so present in them that I'm concerned about how to answer correctly during this period of time to such questions. If there is a formula or do we just need to feel the moment?

M. Laitman: I did not understand the question, I am sorry.

Student: We have campus students that have experienced traumas and tragedies, right now. The explanation, everything is whole, just the bodies are being changed, it's a very simple and logical explanation. On the other hand, when the pain is burning within, I'm trying to understand what's the best and most correct, purposeful way, to answer if there is a formula or an approach to how to explain this thing and clarify it.

M. Laitman: We cannot do it, it is like you cannot explain to a child things that, for you, seem simple and clear, it is the same for us. There are many things that even to one another, between us, we get stuck on, there is nothing you can do. What are you doing next? It is interesting, most of these questions here are from men.

Question (Beer Sheva): (01:29:04) Good morning, Rav, thank you for giving us the possibility to ask two questions, with your permission, I'll ask the first: He talks about the topic of the stages of our work between the second and the third state, the transitions. According to what's written here, I'll read with your permission. This is from 17: “Although our state in number one gives us the second stage, the shell to that body in its despicable state, which is the desire to receive for himself, which is this force of separation from Ein Sof, in order to correct it. And enabled us to receive our eternal body in its complete state of the third state. And we should not be worried about that, because our state is only in this body that comes and goes, and a person cannot correct anything that he does not have in him.” It's our main work in the second stage?

M. Laitman: It does not matter if the primary work is in the second stage, or third, or what is next.

Student: Next it jumps to item 20, where it says, “There's a reality where the soul is actually suckling from Ein Sof, with the intention to bestow, and the body seemingly remains in its current state of the desire to receive.” How can such a reality be, where the soul and the body are not in the same stage?

M. Laitman: That is what he writes, and for the time being, I need to accept it. Next.

Student: I accept it, Rav, what I just wanted to add, and for the correction, a Kabbalist that is in the third stage, that's the reality of the personal, private correction, and not the general correction?

M. Laitman: That is what he feels, he has not gone up from that stage and that is why he can only speak about the general stage.

Student: If I may ask another thing, Rav, I've seen an opposite world. When we read all these paragraphs, it's like a sand clock that is being flipped over. Whatever the Creator gives us, the moment we turn around, and we start bestowing, we start to see the whole reality. Is that the state that he wants to see us in this project of educating us, of guiding us?

M. Laitman: Okay, thank you.

Question (Turkiye 2): (01:32:15) How can we draw the reflected light that comes to us from the Upper worlds into our vessels so that the whole soul will have a desire to bestow? How can the body that wants to receive attain that?

M. Laitman: According to the reflected light, according to the reflected light that he is generating, everything he can receive.

Question (Kyiv 1): (01:33:09) To receive reflected light, shouldn't the souls of people, which they receive through the reflected light, they just need to return to bestow contentment to their Maker? How can we come to such an exalted state?

M. Laitman: These are exercises that we have to do on ourselves. We try constantly to be in bestowal as much as possible in various forms. Then we receive this opportunity.

Student: How can we do this exercise that will bring us to bringing bestowal to the Creator?

M. Laitman: Through the friends.

Question (New York 2): (01:34:12) I heard that I have to see that the friends are in a corrected state, can I bestow to the Ten by praying for myself to be corrected in order to advance the Ten?

M. Laitman: Yes, if you take the corrupt form of the friend, you must ensure that you correct it.

Question (Africa): (01:34:46) Hello Rav, is it possible during my spiritual journey in state 2 to feel the perfect vision that I had in state 1 on my way to Ein Sof

Reader: Repeat, please.

Student: Is it possible that during the work, one can feel, can I feel in the second state, the final third state of eternality of Ein Sof?

M. Laitman: How? No, of course not, of course you cannot.

Question (Women Moscow 18): (01:36:11) At the beginning of the article, it says that we look at the Creator who created us. It's like the Creator is working, who is He working for? Maybe there's a problem with the translation?

M. Laitman: When we look at the Creator who created us we need to imagine that we, in essence, resemble Him. We must grow up to His level, to His size.

Student: At some point, you translated this article, and you said that the Creator is like a master?

M. Laitman: It does not matter.

Reader: (01:37:25) Before we move to the next part of the lesson, we have an announcement.

Song: (01:37:53)
