Daily Morning Lesson: July 9, 2025

Hello friends, in the first part of the lesson, we’ll learn from the recorded lesson from the 25th of June, 2006, Shamati, Article 20, “The Matter of the Lishma.”

Part 1: Recorded lesson - Oct 16, 2021. Baal HaSulam, Shamati #20. Lishma [for Her sake]

Question (French 2): (00:36) In the beginning, he says that we need to feel the burden of the kingdom heaven as something that is heavy. Why?

M. Laitman: Not in the beginning; until we receive the force to be above our ego then we are under it and we do whatever it requires of us either without recognition or the understanding who is controlling us, just like we are each of us now. We are under the complete control of the will to receive, complete control. When we begin, by the light that reforms that shines on us more and more, through dissemination, through the connection between us, through the study—when we get some illumination, that we start to acknowledge more and more that we are in order to receive, only under the force of reception, not in the force of bestowal at all. We get to know this more and more. We start hating this control of the force of reception and we want to come out of it, maybe and we see we can’t. The greater or the higher the soul of a person should be in the times of corrections, the lower, the heavier it is in the uncorrected state. According to this rule, that “if one is greater than his friend, his inclination is greater.” That’s why we’re not to be despaired here. We are very, very bad or the worst souls that went through the greatest shattering. That’s why it is hard for us to awaken and to start the work in order to bestow in Lishma (for Her sake). We can’t. We don’t even understand what is going on. That’s how we advance but from Lo Lishma (not for Her sake) they will come to Lishma. The main thing is mutual help and dedication.

Question (French): (03:47) Sometimes, for short moments, we feel joy in the work. Is this considered Lishma (for Her sake) or is it our ego that is using spirituality to receive for itself, to enjoy?

M. Laitman: We should scrutinize this on the path. There is such a question.

Question (Kyiv 3): (04:26) Can it be that the person truly is in Lishma (for Her sake) however it is hidden from him that he is in Lishma (for Her sake) so because of that he falls to Lo Lishma (not for Her sake)?

M. Laitman: No, no. Specifically, when a person is in Lishma (for Her sake), he comes closer to measure his degrees in Lishma (for Her sake), Rosh, Toch, Sof of his soul in his Partzuf, how he is connected to others, how he strengthens his connections with the friends, how he is building his society, his environment when all of us are more as one man in one heart, how they accept the Creator meaning, adapt themselves more and more to the upper light so the upper light will be revealed in them from Nefesh, Ruach, Neshama, Haya, Yechida, etc., in all the different degrees, in the ascents, descents, various internal states between them both in fights and in connections. It’s life. It's sizzling life in Lishma (for Her sake) much more than we have here. Here, we’re like in a kindergarten. Let's hope we’ll work in that, we’ll come to it and we'll have what to talk about.

Question (Petah Tikva Center 31): (06:06) Is it possible to reach the state of working in upliftment and pleasure before we reach?

M. Laitman: Why not? If we bestow the greatness of the goal, the greatness of the group for each other on the background of what’s happening. In the world today, we see how exhausted humanity is. They do not know what to do. If, previously, there were times where people lived in a more calm way, relatively, taking trips, doing something—today, everyone is afraid and they are getting used to live under nature’s threat. Look what they are telling us: the volcanoes—help me, I do not even remember the troubles on the verge of coming—heatwaves, cold waves, floods, earthquakes; I am not even talking about wars. Then, there are other things; plagues of course, I don’t know. I live in this world for 75 years and besides maybe the last 15 years, besides these last, final 15 years, I did not really hear that humanity is concerned about its existence. There were talks about the world wars but about nature’s disasters?—it’s much worse than the world war. These are things that we are incapable of stopping in our ordinary vessels. It’s only through the relations between us and humanity does not yet understand that. All these troubles that are about to come to us today, again, hurricanes, these heat waves, cold waves, floods, earthquakes, what else? I do not know—many other things; they all come by nature. Today, we have come to a state where humanity is round, all-over Earth and we have to connect between us and we are not connecting. In this lack of connection that should occur between us, we affect this round Earth and it responds to us accordingly until we finally understand that only by our ever-growing connection between us that is becoming more and more whole, we can calm our Earth down and make our life very good here. If we don’t do that, nature will teach us in the opposite way as it has begun.

Student: Exactly here, what is the pleasure we have—exactly in that state that you described—what is our pleasure at this time?

M. Laitman: Our pleasure is when we want to help humanity, disseminate the method of correction, what’s the rule remedy including for the pandemics and the other blows of nature. Everything comes from nature, the Creator. The numerical value of the Creator in Hebrew is nature. Everything comes from Him and explaining it to other people, that’s our work.

Question (PT 19): (10:16) He writes at the beginning of the article that it’s impossible for there to be a true prayer if he doesn’t first know that without prayer you cannot achieve it. Therefore, through the actions and remedies that he does in order to be rewarded with Lishma (for Her sake), corrected vessels are formed in him that will want to receive Lishma (for Her sake). What does it mean, the remedies, the Segulot, the virtues that one does?

M. Laitman: Whatever can help me to relate to my group better, to see how much I am not doing it correctly—I am asking the Creator to help me to be connected to them, to relate to actions of bestowal as much as I can, to see that I am not in them, to ask the Creator to help me, etc., etc. All the actions I can perform in order to awaken myself to turn to the Creator and to ask for help from Him so that in all these addresses, what I want to attain is such help from the Creator that I’ll really cry out, I’ll pray, have such a deficiency; this the meaning that the Creator will open up my connection with Him and that’s how I’ll see my friends and the Creator and myself and the entire humanity, how everyone has to connect together. That’s how we’ll continue.

Student: Just to clarify it, he writes, “acts and remedies he does.” What does it mean?

M. Laitman: Bestowal to the group, dissemination to the wide world, a study alone and in the group, participation as much as it can be wider, as wide as it can be, with all the students. Now, we are heading towards the next congress. We want to have a meal, virtual, in the meantime, etc. Meaning, we have to increase the connection between all of us because, this way, in this physical connection, even, we cause a connection between us in a spiritual manner. This is a direct link, direct bestowal on the connection between us and the Creator.

Question (Moscow 1): (13:12) When we study, it creates a new relation in me towards the evil inclination, so…?

M. Laitman: I do not know. It all depends on the connection between us and our relation and also the amount of people there. It is possible that on Saturday we have more people participating. I don’t know, is this correct? Friday, Tuesday, more? More people on Tuesday than Saturday? I don’t know what to tell you. There is a difference but this difference, it all depends on us. It’s not because today is Saturday and a different day is a different day. It all depends on us. It’s not about a certain day or month or year. It is written, “Israel” meaning the ones who want to reach straight to the Creator, Yashar El. Israel are above the different stars or signs meaning they don't depend on any force of nature besides the Creator. They don’t depend on times or days or nights, months, or anything. They only depend on the relations between them and the Creator.

Question (Unity 3): (15:08) The habit becomes second nature, it is when the Creator is revealed as the good who does good?

M. Laitman: No, it's the result of dedication. That’s how we reach, bit by bit.

Question (PT 25): (15:29) Who am I so that I can give answers and explain something to people?

M. Laitman: Don’t explain anything. You are not allowed to go out and to explain to them. It is forbidden for you, that's it. You'll only confuse them and you distance them away from the path. First of all, organize yourself patiently. Take your time, as much as needed, that’s all.

Question (Woman Moscow 8): (16:10) What corrected vessels does it refer to, here, when he says “the corrected vessels that will want to receive Lishma?”

M. Laitman: The corrected vessels are our desires that are aimed to connection between us and from us to the Creator, that will be, all of us, connected in a way that we’ll disclose, that we’ll have an ability to connect to the Creator.

Question (Woman Almaty): (16:40) Does the intention to bestow change our desire?

M. Laitman: The intention in order to bestow changes everything. It is simply turning your world upside down. You start seeing the world in different connections between each and every detail of the world. It depends on what level you are in, in order to bestow. It is like this verse, “I have seen the world and it’s the opposite.”

Question (Woman MAC 21): (17:27) What degrees are there in Lishma (for Her sake)?

M. Laitman: In Lishma (for Her sake)?—all 125 degrees until the final correction meaning—until the final correction means—that all the desires to receive should be revealed in me and in others and we, from one degree to another, from one state to another, we connect them together in the correct system of communication, of connections, between all these desires, in the mind and the heart, the right connection system. This way, we advance until the final correction. The final correction was when we come back to Malchut de Ein Sof.

Question (Woman Toronto 3): (18:27) With what means does a person shift from working against this desire to work that brings pleasure to the Creator?

M. Laitman: Again?

Student:  How does a person shift, transition, from working against his own desire to working in order to give the Creator pleasure?

M. Laitman: How does a person shift? It’s only through the upper light, that the Creator shines upon him to the extent that a person gives an exertion. As he completes the measure of his exertion then the Creator shines on him. The person starts feeling that a new desire awakens in him that wasn’t there before. Even before that, he starts feeling that, bit by bit, an awakening and a new desire is coming to him for a new kind of connection but now, the moment he really gets a new desire, he sees a new world opens for him.

Question (Woman Turkiye 6): (19:42) If the ego enjoys only bestowal, it cannot do it otherwise?

M. Laitman: The ego enjoys bestowal? How can that be? That’s something I don’t know; I don’t know this thing. When I bestow and I enjoy it and that’s the ego? If I bestow and enjoy, it’s a correction already I am in, enjoying. Maybe it’s possible that this is considered to bestow in order to receive, maybe that’s what they mean. Let’s scrutinize this.

Question (Woman Piter): (20:26) How does it come that a person works—he doesn't really ask for it—but still gets an illumination that corrects him?

M. Laitman: This is the Creator making the calculations and giving a person even such awakenings that a person doesn’t deserve it according to our calculation but he gets it. Why? This is called giving in advance, seemingly. Later, He’ll demand a refund for it, an exertion; there are such calculations.

Question (Woman Moscow 8): (21:15) It says in the text it is impossible for a true prayer to emerge if he does not first know that without a prayer it is impossible to achieve it. How does a person reach that state?

M. Laitman: By investing strength, seeing he is not coming to what is required so he outbursts with a prayer—it comes on its own. If a person wants to reach something and he really really yearns, then he comes to a state where he does not receive and that’s intentionally that doesn’t receive. We have many such examples for each and every one, doing and doing things without feeling that I have some result of it—whether good or bad, doesn’t matter but something—no,nothing. This all comes for us to outburst with a prayer because we’re gonna look for the Source; where, at all, am I expecting, waiting to have something? This is where we come to a connection between us and the Creator and with a true prayer, when we turn to Him, we reach an answer of this prayer.

Question (Woman Latin 11): (22:45) Through the prayer should we demand an awakening from below in order to reach bestowal?

M. Laitman: Everything, as we have learned yesterday and the day before, everything is attained by the force of a prayer but the prayer should be a prayer when we connect between us, agree between us what we are asking for and the prayer should be collective—this is considered to be a prayer in the public, a prayer from the group. Each and every group should develop an address to the Creator of itself and to make sure that, even to write a text—what we are asking for—not long, up to five sentences and with this, we turn to the Creator. It may be that tomorrow we’ll have a different prayer, the next day, a different prayer but we need to stand for it during the day. For instance, that we, today, demand this and that from the Creator and if we change it, it’s not that bad. We are on the way, yes, we’re scrutinizing these things, we’re scrutinizing, in us, all kinds of foundations or reasons. That’s why we’re changing the prayer; we’re asking for something else. That’s correct.

Question (W PT 14): (24:37) What actions should a person do when he recognizes that he is in a state of Lo Lishma?

M. Laitman: First of all, integration in the group—his group, personal group—meaning in the ten—what we say—and also an integration with the general world Kli and this may be by all kinds of ways, have many different kinds of work we need to sustain in order to keep our system. If I get up and I turn on my computer and I sit by it for 2 to 3 hours a day, it is not considered that I am taking part, I’m participating. What am I giving? Each one should ask himself, what am I giving? I'm not turning to the ones who are working for payment, for salary; it's not considered giving. What am I giving the organization, the dissemination of the wisdom of the correction of the world for the advancement for the final correction? By this, only by this, I give contentment to the Creator, I am helping humanity to advance to discover the upper force. What should we do? What am I doing? That is a problem and I am really asking about it. Even when we had women who used to come voluntarily to clean our center—lately, I have been hearing that, not so gladly and with great desire do they come to clean the building. These are such signs that it is not about being tired or not worthwhile for them; I’m looking at the other side. It is the Creator giving a person an opportunity to exert. It's not that a person doesn't have the desire. The desire is in the hand of the Creator. The Creator is taking the desire from him and the person doesn't want, and he doesn’t understand that wanting or not wanting depends only on the Creator. Responding correctly for this—that depends on a person. We have many such states where we can practically elevate ourselves to a higher degree, but we are disregarding it.

Question (Woman Moscow 20): (28:03) If a person checks and sees that he  is very far from Lishma, it seems to him that he will never reach Lishma, what should he do, how not to despair?

M. Laitman: Even if a person does not reach Lishma, even if he doesn’t, about this it is written, I can't find it now… “And your reward is very big, the ones who cannot are the ones who toiled and did not reach.” Their reward is very big because the person doesn't have the ability to appreciate even one moment of working for the revelation of the Creator to the world. That’s a problem, if we don't appreciate sufficiently, this is why we are not concerned more and more about bringing people, especially women to this work.

Question (Woman USA 12): (29:15) How can we check if we're asking for vessels of bestowal or vessels of reception, because the request is for the friends, for the Ten?

M. Laitman: Yes, but all in all, where are we? We are between the will to receive and the will to bestow so you have to increase the will to bestow and decrease the will to receive. That is our work. First of all, I would like to say that I'm very happy that we are getting questions from the United States. It was a very good Congress over there, and they had it in a very good way. I’ve seen it, I got a very good report. Well done.  America awakening in this way adds much strength to all of us.

Question (Wwoman USA West 4): (30:11) On one hand, we should invest exertion all the time to overcome the evil inclination; on the other hand, the article says: “You have not called me Jacob because you have not labored in me Israel.” So, this is that one who works for the Creator should not feel he's investing effort but elation and upliftment. How do we know if upliftment is for the Creator and when it is just egoistic fulfillment?

M. Laitman: It is through the group, the truth is we have no serious way, we can't examine it in our emotion; our emotion confuses us and deceives us very much. Only through the Ten. If I shift it through the Ten, it doesn't matter what Ten I have. It may even be that all of us are like stones, when I turn to them, it's like turning to a wall, as it's the Creator arranging it, and what can I do. I don't know if it's good or bad. That is why if I want to turn to the Creator correctly, I have to awaken the friends, to awaken their heart, and by that for sure I will send, rather than my words, my emotions.

Reader: This is from Baal HaSulam, “One Commandment” under the subtitle of “Giving Contentment to One's Maker not from One's Reason.”

Reading: (31:48) Baal HaSulam, "One Commandment"

It is hopeless to wait for  a time when a solution is found that enables one to begin the work of the Creator in Lishma. As in the past, so is now, and so will it be: Every servant of the Creator must begin the work in Lo Lishma, and from that achieve Lishma.

The way to achieve this degree is not limited by time, but by his qualifiers, and by the measure of one’s control over one’s heart. Hence, many have fallen and will fall in the field of working Lo Lishma, and will die without wisdom. Yet, their reward is nevertheless great,

M. Laitman: Even if they fall off the path and do not reach Lishma.

Reading: (32:48) Baal HaSulam, "One Commandment"

since one’s mind cannot appreciate the true merit and value of bringing contentment to one’s Maker. Even if one works not under this condition, since one is not worthy of another way, one still brings contentment to one’s Maker. This is called “unintentionally.”

M. Laitman: Whatever we do, even if it is a tiny actions and maybe they're wrong, but still we want somehow to belong to this upper system and to determine something in it, to bring back each and every one's personal soul to the general soul of Adam HaRishon as much as we can, even if it is just words, even if we don't have the strength, it is still works, and acts, and it is listed. This is our work, this is our path, and there is no more left behind a person in this whole vessel that goes and corrects itself until the final correction. We should be proud of it.

Question (Woman USA West 2): (34:17) How does the body accustom itself to work against the will to receive? Yesterday, we talked about it, that we cannot really ask for bestowal.

M. Laitman: I’ll tell you even more than that: when a person falls from in order to bestow, it is as if he gets a punishment. He wants to stay in order to bestow. This is called to receive a second nature. We don't understand this now because we are enjoying the reception, but then, in the future we will enjoy bestowal. Let's say that you are looking at a certain woman, and she is investing herself in with a certain baby, and by her side, there is a different woman, she doesn't want it, it is nothing for her. You don't understand. Let’s say you're not for this world, I don’t know where from , you're looking at one woman and the other, and you don't understand the difference between them. Why is woman so dedicated to the baby and caring for it all the time, all the time, and the other one doesn't even care if he disappears, now. We don’t understand these things. This is the difference between Lo Lishma and Lishma, and if it comes, we will behave properly. But I say again, if you have the opportunity to bestow even in practice, this is what I said about the women who used to join the cleaning of the center. I think that it is worthwhile, it’s really worthwhile. It is bestowal, and it is also felt as a result of bestowal. Especially, I would like to thank all of the people in charge of organizing things here, and everything as volunteers.

Question (Womam Latin 20): (36:36) Which action should we do in the Ten when we discover a friend is causing a problem and other friend in the Ten don't see that problem?

M. Laitman: Well, we need to gradually scrutinize it; perhaps we need to scrutinize it, and also, she should try to correct herself, and to see if in this she sees that the problem changes and disappears, or at least moves away. This we need to see.

Question (Woman UK): (37:26) How does a person know if he is in Lishma if it says in the article, it's an illumination from above and our mind doesn't understand?

M. Laitman: We need to advance toward Lishma, ‘for her sake.’ What is Lishma: we don't understand what this is, what do we feel in this state of Lishma, for her sake, we don't know. But getting closer and approaching the state of Lishma that Kabbalists talk about, we need to, meaning trying to connect among us as much as possible, learning,  speaking about Lishma, but mainly it is praying together. Now that it is the women in front of me, to the women I am saying it is the hardest, harder than it is for men. The men can hug as they're like kids. Everything is simpler for them. But when a woman does it, she performs a much greater correction. The egoistic nature in her is inherent because the woman is the world, it is nature, it is home. It is the basis of the soul, and that is why I am very concerned about whether our women are really trying to feel close to one another.
