Lesson 1: We Have Gathered Here

1. Rabash. Article 10 (1984) “What Is the Degree One Should Achieve in Order Not to Have to Reincarnate?”

All of the souls extend from the soul of Adam HaRishon, for after he sinned in the sin of the Tree of Knowledge, his soul divided into 600,000 souls. This means that the one light that Adam HaRishon had in the Garden of Eden at once, spreads into many parts.

2. Baal HaSulam, Letter 4

You lack nothing but to go out to a field that the Creator has blessed, and collect all those flaccid organs that have drooped from your soul, and join them into a single body.

4. Rabash. Article 1, part 1 (1984). “Purpose of Society - 1“

We have gathered here to establish a society whose goal is to bestow upon the Creator. And to bestow upon the Creator, we must begin with bestowal upon man, and this can happen only by annulling oneself. Thus, on one hand, each person should feel lowly. On the other hand, we should be proud that the Creator has given us the chance to be in a society whose goal is for the Creator to be among us.

5. Rabash. Article 6 (1984). “Love of Friends - 2”

When each one in the society annuls himself, they become one body, and each one has the power of everyone, if each one annuls before everyone and does not think about satisfying his own desires, but about love of friends. By this he can acquire a new quality called “desire to bestow.” Then, from love of friends, he can come to love the Creator, when he wants to bestow upon the Creator.

6. Rabash. Article 14 (1988) “The Need for Love of Friends”

There is a special power in adhesion of friends, that by thoughts passing from one to the other, each one is mingled with the power of everyone, and each person has the power of the entire society. For this reason, although each person is an individual, he has the power of the entire society.

7. Rabbi Kalonymus Kalman Epstein, Maor VaShemesh, VaYechi

The essence of the assembly is for everyone to be in one unity and for all to seek only to find the Creator. If there are more than ten, there is more revelation of the Creator. Thus, each one should assemble with his friend to hear from him how to find the Creator. He should annul before his friend, his friend should do the same toward him, and so should everyone do. By this, the Creator brings Himself to them and is with them.

8. Rabash. Article 8 (1985) “Make for Yourself a Rav and Buy Yourself a Friend - 2”

Those people who agreed to unite into a single group that engages in love of friends, it is because each of them feels that they have one desire that can unite all their views, so as to receive the force of love of others, since they understood that there isn’t such a great distance of views between them. Therefore, each of them will be able to make concessions in favor of the others, and they can unite around that.

9. Rabash. Article 17 (1986). “The Agenda of the Assembly - 2”

The greater the number of the collective, the more effective is the power of the collective, since they produce a stronger atmosphere of greatness and importance of the Creator. At that time, each one feels that he regards anything that his actions of bestowing upon the Creator are as a fortune for him, that he has been privileged with being among people who have been rewarded with serving the Creator. At that time, every little thing he does fills him with pleasure that he is serving the Creator.

10. Likutey Halachot [Assorted Rules], “Synagogue Rules,” Rule One

The ascent of the soul and its completeness is when the souls merge and become one, for then they rise to the Kedusha [holiness], since the Kedusha is one. For this reason, a prayer is mainly in public. We must only unite together, for there the souls gather, and this is the completeness of the prayer.
