Connecting Days and Nights - Selected Excerpts from the Sources. #5
1. Rav’s Introduction: Yes, only in this way we shift into spirituality, when we have the day and we have the night and we have to connect them together. Because the night specifically as we have learned is the time for the building of the vessel, towards the morning we go through states such as these are already corrections and receiving the light in order to bestow. So everything starts from the evening when the darkness starts. With states of darkness come distancing, lack of desire everything seems to fall, there is no attraction forward, a new will to receive appears which simply brings us to a new state and in that new state we see no importance in spirituality and this for us is called darkness, that we do not yearn for anything, a person is apathetic, indifferent and this is how we feel at this time, this state.
Later we nevertheless overcome this state and we realize that this state comes in order to connect us, in order to strengthen us, in order to position us above the greater corporeal will to receive in order to receive. Upon it we have to build our attitude toward spirituality, to in order to bestow, come closer to the Creator, connecting between us more than before. Therefore all of these nights are in order to give us an opportunity to rise to a higher degree and to position ourselves there. Therefore it is impossible without the nights and the nights actually come first. What does it mean that they come first? That first there has to be an epiphany of the desire. As the Creator says I created the evil inclination and later comes the correction that we have to perform over this time when forces of separation are upon us, when we do not want to advance, we don’t value spirituality and the connection between us and so on. These are all forces of the darkness, qualities of the darkness and we must have them because upon them we rise to a higher degree than before.
This is how we advance and therefore there cannot be a day without the preceding night and the nights have to go over us, over each and everyone according to the root of his soul, according to his place in the purpose of Creation. At the end of correction there is a place for each and every one of us, that's it. Therefore, ascent from darkness to light, from the night to the day is very important for us. It is a primary but we have to connect all of the ingredients of the night and all of the ingredients of the day together. Then as it is written darkness shall shine as light and it will be a state which is all day because the night will also shine in it and that state will appear to us as day. This is the day of the Lord as it is called, when the nights we will appreciate them also as days because without them it will be impossible to attain the Creator and all of the infinite light, the light of Ein Sof that will be revealed specifically thanks to the nights.
Reading (05:31) “Those who want to achieve the work of bestowal undergo ascents and descents”
1.R. (07:03) Yes, because increasing the light of day which is a state of adhesion, connection, coming closer to the Creator comes specifically upon the night. So it is impossible to reach adhesion, the day, connection, coming closer to the Creator, understanding the path, if a person doesn’t go through the opposite state, the night. Specifically because he receives seemingly a descent, it’s not a descent, it’s actually an ascent but on the left, and then he adds to this an ascent on the right line.Then he truly attains how much the created being has no other way but only through descents and ascents, descents and ascents and every descent is a descent to a new place, a new area, and therefore he has greater and more significant ascents.
2. S. (08:20) The Creator blessed Abraham with all, also at night. What does it mean that He’s blessed us at night?
R. That Abraham was also given great nights so that then he would be able to attain the days. The Creator brings us darkness, this is why it is written I have created the evil inclination. And opposite it it is written I have created the spice of Torah. Which means He doesn’t bring us something directly but this is an addition to the evil inclination which is called a spice, and then the evil inclination we turn it into the good inclination. Meaning the same desire remains however now it works in order to bestow, only the intention changes but not the desire. The desire as the Creator says, I have created the evil inclination. Each time he creates and creates the evil inclination anew meaning a desire, a new desire, and everytime and this desire is egoistic and we through the work, specifically in the nights, this is why it is customary by the Kabbalists also to study during the night as we also do, and in this we advance. Meaning we turn the darkness into light through connection between us, through the study and by turning to the Creator.
S. So how each time to see in the night a blessing and add to the right intention?
R. If you forgot, forgot meaning that you now received such a desire in which there are no records from earlier descents and ascents then for you the desire that you now receive is a new desire, and you don't know what to do with it. Seemingly you feel that you are in some new state, spirituality is not important for you, nothing is important for you in life, well maybe you want something corporeal, maybe you don't even want that and this is what the Creator gives us and we need just like when we start a new stage, a new degree, once again we have to search for how do we give this desire a direction and importance? How do we arrange it, establish it in such a way that it will be for us as a degree by which to advance to the purpose of creation.
S. Which degree is included in two parts day and night?
R. It allows us to advance to a more....is there any other way to advance to a corrected state? Go ahead, offer some advice.
S. You only want to advance only during the day.
R. How? How can you establish the created being, the created being who has nothing within him of himself so that he will advance from absolute zero to the degree of the Creator, the absolute degree of the Creator? Go ahead, how? You have to build him in a way that he will be a greater and greater created being from the state that he is in. That he will become so great, with his substance more and more greater and also in the form which resembles the Creator, more and more congruent with the Creator. How would you do it? Maybe you have some other advice? Go ahead. Bit by bit as we work, we attain that seemingly the Creator has no choice. Seemingly because out of the fact that He is almighty, nevertheless this is what He chose. And therefore we need to see in what He did that, this is the only thing that was possible to do from creation. To create someone who is not from the Creator he's outside of the degree, Bar, in Hebrew. This is why he’s called Adam, similar, created being, but yet we see that this created being becomes something similar to the Creator called Adam, similar.
3. S. (13:51) In the dark phase how do we add the right intention to our actions? How do I know if it’s right?
R. This is why we have each and every day the study in the morning and once or twice we have a meeting with the friends and all kinds of preparations and all kinds of things so that we try each time to aim ourselves again and again to the purpose of life, to the purpose of creation. Each and every moment even if we do not feel it we have a new desire, and therefore each and every moment to some extent we go through the corrections.
We are in groups and all together in the big group of Bnei Baruch which is thousands and thousands of people, men and women and also around us there are many more people who are supporters, who understand and feel and support us, they ascribe themselves to us and this is how we advance through this whole construction, in this whole great structure. This is why even though the advancement is relatively slow, it is not like an individual person as there were such people before, unique individuals, but nevertheless, this is the advancement, just like the whole of humanity is advancing.
You can see that, nevertheless there are special people within humanity and there are those who are not special, they advance along with everyone and actually as it is written, ‘I dwell within my own people’. The Creator is in the collective, not in unique individuals. Those unique individuals He promotes them individually in order for them to be as certain points that pull humanity, like scientists in our world let's say. Such special people, but this is not about them, it is about the correction of all of us, and especially since we are in a time of the end of correction as Baal HaSulam says and therefore we have to flow together as much as possible, the most important is together.
4. S. (17:17) If a friend is in an ascent and he gives advice to a friend that … in me and the next moment I don’t add and I fall into the Klipa. What is that force that I can take because from all the actions I … the externality in the friends?
R. Annul before the friends and don't cry. You have a society, you have the group, you have a strong ten so connect more. Connect more and remind each other every time to give an example to each other of how in the connection between you each one of you extract the force from it. If you want to advance, don't wait for you to get from the Creator personally, individually that you will get help but rather connect with the friends and from that try to extract the help. This is why it says I dwell among my own people. If you want to reach the Creator go ahead, the vessel is the group. The light in it, the inner force within it, is the Creator.
S. Exactly something personal but what is the connection with the friends on my side, on the side of the friends?
R. You are not listening to what I said. What did I say; I dwell among my own people, meaning that you have to connect to the others and there you find the Creator and the force to advance.
5. S. (19:05) The revelation of darkness is an accumulated thing or is it the revelation of the light an accumulation?
R. The revelation of the darkness we don’t know quite how it comes, the Creator … the darkness and what is upon us is through the connection between us we draw the light. Not to wait for the light to come on its own. Listen, don't wait but rather we have to draw the light by connecting more and more. The connection between us into connecting or how should I put it? Uniting ourselves together, this is upon us and then the light shines more strongly so that the darkness comes from the Creator directly, he awakes it. The light has to come following our effort.
S. I mean the darkness comes from the Creator and the effort from us?
R. I said it is written: I created the evil inclination, all the darkness that comes and is revealed, all the states of distancing, darkness, all kinds of conflict and problems. It is all the Creator who is awakening them until they want to kill one another and there are all kinds of problems, he has no choice. In this way he awakens the will to receive in order to receive of ours so that we will have a substance to correct.
S. And he awakens it in our efforts to connect?
R. He awakens it according to our ability to overcome the separation.
S. When we … this additional.
R. When we overcome correctly, when we connect between us, we feel we are coming closer to the Creator, we take a step forward then once again we get the night, again darkness, again distancing, again our lack of strength, our hands fall down, our spirit falls down, I don't want anything, I just want to go to sleep.
S. My question is why when the darkness comes it is not something general, why is it coming in chunks?
R. The darkness comes precisely according to the form that we are able to overcome it and to advance in the best way towards the purpose of creation, towards the end of correction.
6. WS Question. (22:32) How do I approach the darkness in order to change it into advancement towards the light?
7. R. (28:52) From our experience how can we turn to the group in order to quickly shift from the darkness to the light? How do we turn to our ten so we can quickly move, shift from the darkness to the light? How do we work, and that's the second question: how do we work with the darkness in order to build from it like from Play-Doh or clay to build from it the form of the light because there is no light, there is no light. We have to build it out of the darkness as we learn that we have coarseness and screen and if we make reflected light over it then we begin to see something, how we can establish from the darkness from or coarseness through restriction, through a screen we feel that we have something before us and from that we build a certain form, a certain world, a complete spiritual world. How do I do that? By, from the darkness, from my desire I create, I build the light and then I resemble the Creator. So how do we do that? Go ahead please.

8. R. (33:20) How do we build the state of me, the group and the Creator in this process from the darkness until I draw the light? Until it shines so, how do I build this process when I reach the group, when I become Incorporated with them we all become incorporated together and we try to pull ourselves into a single structure, a single desire and we turn to the Creator and he answers, he fills us, he arranges us and then we rise to the state of day. Talk about that. How do we go through this process through this degree, how do we rise to the next degree?

9. R. (38:10) How do we establish ourselves? The most important thing for us is to be in the ten, in the group which is close and it's very important for each one of us and only for the purpose of the group we turn to the Creator, I have nothing else. This is what should be the correct, the right thing, the first stage when we build a vessel, the most important thing is to build the vessel and the Creator is the means for the construction of the vessel. This is how we need to establish ourselves. How do we arrange our work or connection between us that only it is important for us and all the rest of the other states that comes to us from the Creator of course and the power from we which we correct ourselves to bring us to in one man in one heart, it all comes from the Creator and we turn to him. We turn to him as to a source of a force which we use to arrange their group. So how do we obligate everyone one to look of the correction of the vessel in that way? Please.

10. R. This is called day. This is not high spirit so there was a connection that we can live ourselves in rather the day of the Creator means that the guidance by which the Creator leads the world will be clearly in the form of good and doing good, in our feeling and in our understanding. When does it happen? When I'm ready to understand what is the true good that does good. When I prepare the vessel, this is in the light of Hassadim and in that light of Hassadim I discover already the revelation, the illumination of Hochma. It is clear to me that the Creator is working towards the force of bestowal and in the force of bestowal I beginning to attain his attitude.

11. R. When does it happen? When a person comes to a state when his desire, his intention, his views are all, as much as it appear to a person, he arranges himself in the same direction as the Creator. When he prays he's immediately answered and he receives but he's asking for anybody else. Everything he does he succeeds this is called the day of the Creator when he reaches the correction of the desire to the same degree as a Creator is before him.

12. R. (46:16) They take their part to do it to see, to feel, to think that is good and doing good although they can feel it, although they can see it. We need to turn to it, we need to pray, we need to receive this power called, ‘the power of faith’, ‘the light of faith’, and then they will discover that the Creator is indeed ‘good and doing good’; and what appears to them as darkness, torments and problems, they feel it this way because the Creator is revealing it to them inside the will to receive so they will disconnect from it and it will want to be in the intention to bestow above the will to receive called ‘above reason’.

13. R. (48:06) Meaning the difference between the night and day is that he cannot justify the Creator, the Creator’s attitude towards him, if he justifies it, is called ‘day’, if he doesn't it's called ‘night’.

(48:41) Meaning it is up to us to turn our attitude to the states the Creator brings down on us as darkness and turn it into light so the relationships between darkness and light, the feeling of darkness and light will depend only on us, only on us. If I accept the darkness also as the attitude of the good Creator towards me in order to bring me to the purpose of creation, then for me it is not darkness, it is called ‘the darkness will shine as day’, as light and that's how indeed the light is revealed only from within the darkness.

16. S. (50:33) If, let's say, we reach a state where the doubt is in us not about the Creator who's good and doing good but this is also a doubt concerning the Creator if we have a doubt about ourselves, I mean can’t He change us?
R. The Creator doesn't do anything unless we demand it, He's got the plan of creation and He follows it and He reveals more and more darkness. And we need upon this darkness to rise in our feeling and discover the light since darkness and light exists only relative to us. If we look at it in vessels, in our desires to receive then we see darkness, and if we look at it through our desire to bestow we’lll see the light.
S. And then what actions do we do?
R. We connect and demand that our vessels will be corrected and for us to want the light to appear out of the darkness.
S. Between us, of course?
R. Between us, of course.
S. Soon in our day and in our time, thank you.
17. S. (52:17) While I am in the opposite qualities, how can you be grateful and thankful all the time so I can perceive the Creator and be in His quality?
R. First of all, we have to see that there is None Else besides Him, that whatever I’m getting, I’m getting from the Creator, it certainly aims me towards the purpose of creation, the correction of my soul and that's why I'm happy that I'm already on this path and there's a group around me supporting me and I can even fall into their hands, and that’s the preparation. The Creator is good who does good, and He always gives me forms, different forms of my advancement and that's how I need to see the current state, as well.
Now in addition to that, what else should I do? I now need to arrange the state as I did already a thousand times, perhaps, it doesn't matter because each state is a new state. So I have to come to a state where I connect myself with the ten, I'm incorporated in them, I surrender before them, I want to dissolve in them, just as Rabash writes in The Articles of Society, so I constantly want to enter them and only, how should I put it? Only when I annul in them, let's say, when I annul in them, only then can I receive the forces from them and when I annul before them and receive the forces from them, with the forces of society this is called Arvut, mutual guarantee, I can begin my work in a new state. Everything we have done is preparation and now I've received forces from the ten and I begin to work with them.
18. S. (54:45) Can the ten become organized in such a way that we’ll be certain that there is always at least one of the friends who is able to observe the greatness of the Creator?
R. It says “I dwell among my people”, the Creator is always inside the society. So a person can’t see exactly if there's one there or another; is the society ready or not; how much its advancing or not. But if he accepts them openly with an open heart, he wants to be incorporated in them since the Creator gave it to him and now he accepts it no matter his impression from them, he accepts it with an open heart and he begins to feel that through this society the Creator begins to work on him.
19. S. (56:04) A practical question: in the ten, you might think that you can awaken this ‘day’ each and every time but there are friends who are simply not capable, let’s say, of being in the lesson in any way. Seemingly the friend has a desire but he's not capable of coming and we as a ten do not manage to influence it. Does it mean that only the Creator can awaken this ‘day’ in a person or maybe we nevertheless from our side, from below, we can somehow do it?
R. No, you cannot and the more you advance you will see just how helpless you are and only through the Creator you can do these things. You don't have any power, rather first the Creator works through you on this friend, let's say, and you thought it was your powers. And now it is not a state that's clear, it’s more advanced and it’s showing you that you have no strengths, rather you have to turn to Him.
S. So how to turn to Him, somehow you want to pull the friend?
R. The more you advance you will feel yourself more and more helpless, devoid of any forces, as Rabash says, “now you are a rag like me”, that was, how should I put it, a compliment. So, through the Creator if you can’t activate the Creator to work on the friend, then you have to take this example because they create early showing you how incapable you are. Do not say about the friend he is to blame, it is not his fault. The Creator is giving him this state and He's giving you the state where through the Creator you can change it and you want to change spiritual states corporeally and that's not good, that's not good. Of course, you can come to him and demand and ask and do two thousand things but the only correct action is to turn to the Creator and through the Creator to arrange things, it’s time for you to act in this way.
S. So how to turn correctly to the Creator? Should it be an outcry out of despair or some constant attack or how?
R. First of all, you need to arrange things, this is what we have and as usual it comes from None Else Besides Him. The Creator is the one who arranges these states for us: He burdens the heart of a certain friend, let’s say, and the friend cannot come to the lesson. We do not need to be like silly kids but we have to try to the Creator, do not pressure the friend but turn to the Creator and through the Creator to arrange it so he will operate on the friend and just like He gives the friend the burdening of the heart, He gives him gives him the strength to rise above the burdening of the heart and the friend will get up and recuperate and come to us. “Everything is in the hands of the Creator except for the fear of the Creator”, we have to arrange our plea to the Creator correctly. Try and see
20. S. (01:01:33) Now again we heard in the last ten minutes two texts that seem to be the opposite of each other. First of all that, I'll try to be precise. First we heard that it depends only on us, how quickly we will shift from the night to the day; and then we heard that we ourselves are not capable of it but everything depends on how we will be influenced from above. This is how it's truly felt many times, that it depends on whether they will turn the lamp in the room or not, whether we will see the day or not, so where is my choice here?
R. It says “everything is in the hands of the Creator except for fear of the Creator”, everything comes to us from above except for this one action that we can do in all of reality. That is, connection between us and turning from it to the Creator, only this thing can influence from our perspective everything that's happening. Connection and then from within the connection turning to the Creator, that's it.
S. With your permission I will continue: that states that the friend described that on one hand, friends seemingly wanted but I see this for myself every day. How many disturbances and obstacles so that you want but there are so many preventions so they simply block everything for you. The problem is that I'm not even able, besides all kinds of spiritual desires, not even to mention spiritual desires I can't even say what I want on the corporeal level. Many times I see that life simply goes on automatically even with the simple desires I can't understand the path. So how can I work with something that is even higher?
R. That's a state that you still cannot scrutinize but it's actually a good condition, a good state. Everybody advances through it and they learn from one another. Why am I speaking with you so expansively about these things because you have to learn these states come to everyone in all different kinds of shapes and forms. But in truth it's the same state, the important thing is to not enter the state but understand that it's coming from above, otherwise you can poke around that state for a thousand years. You just need to know one thing: you are given a state and to overcome it we can overcome it only by connecting. Our connection depends only on the Creator.
That's why as much as possible we need to be connected, as much as possible turn to the Creator and cry to Him, “you must help us connect”. And from that we’ll see our next state and how to come to it and what to do and so on and so forth. But the important thing is through the connection to turn to the Creator, to write it on the wall so we'll always be before your eyes, that's it. Through the connection to the Creator, there isn't any other action that has to take place outside of it, all the rest of the states or conditions are external states from which you always move towards connection to the Creator. That's all that exists in creation, it's a very simple thing, we simply need to aim ourselves not to get confused and each one will help his friend.
S. There's another matter: can there be a state where the state that you described, in that state maybe we have to suffer and reach a certain quota maybe so that I will truly see that I'm not capable of anything, I'm not even capable of not seeing that I'm not capable. This is the whole problem, if I could truly see that I’m not capable then I would be able to turn to Him correctly and then I would constantly want to be with the friends?
R. The Creator is giving you such states that it seems to you as if they're not good, you have to accept them as the best possible states each and every moment. If you try all the time to connect and from the connection in each and every state to somehow turn to the Creator, it doesn't matter which words you're using, you would raise yourselves very quickly, that's the only problem to try in each state to connect and to turn to the Creator, write it on the wall.
21. S. (01:06:19) Is the state of darkness, does it point to the fact that the Creator wants from me the right response? I have this fear that I don't understand what the Creator wants from me?
R. The Creator wants you to be incorporated in society until you dissolve in it and then together with the friends in such a way where everyone comes to the same state, you turn to the Creator and you are ready to receive a new form from Him. And this will be your next spiritual, your new spiritual degree.
22. S. (01:07:17) What does it mean to pray to the Creator through the ten when we find ourselves in a state of darkness of night?
R. I cleave to the ten in everything that I can and whatever will be in the ten that's what I’ll have, that I’m ready to simply drown in them, immerse in them.
23. S. (01:08:02) How can one attract his ten to the degree of faith he’s in?
R. By example.
S. How can I show my internality, it's impossible,how can I show my internality?
R. Why do you need to show your internality?
S. You said you should give an example of your faith and how can I show an example of faith?
R. Example doesn't mean internality, the example in which you show others how much you yearn for connection in the group. The example where you show them your vessel, where you think it's corrected or you wish to correct it. The tendency, the inclination towards connection, that's what you want to show others, that's a good example.
S. I feel that we need to take some actions of bestowal in the vessel of the ten to the hearts of friends. How to make those actions in order to make them feel?
R. That's exactly what I'm telling you that you need to show, how much your Incorporated in the group. The example should be only in the group.
24. S. (01:09:56) Each one in the ten is responsible for the entire ten on the other hand when a person has no strength then he falls on the hands of the friends. In this state is quite pleasant, you just want to continue it, so how we not simply lie on the hands of the friends and actually shorten the state and move from it to a state of responsibility for the ten as quickly as possible?
R. A passive state in the ten has to be as short and temporary as possible, and the group has to awaken each one to be more active, to perform more active actions of connection, of awakening, this is the work of the group. I have nothing more to add, I have nothing to add.
25. S. (01:11:05) If I lost the faith, who should I pray to if I don't have faith?
R. How to pray to, we have no one to pray to except for the one, unique and unified upper forces, that there's None Else besides Him. I don't know what you're asking.
S. But I mean if I lost the faith, how can I pray to someone I no longer I believe in?
R. Incorporate in the group, enter the group and do together with them what they're doing, that's. it
26. S. (01:11:50) I'm not asking, I’m requesting to give great gratitude for your contribution, today, showing us something that seems negative like our opposite nature to the Creator, something that seems negative like darkness and their multiplication provides, creates something that's positive. I'm truly excited and grateful for this new way of looking at things.
27. S. (01:12:29) How is it possible to work in joy if the teacher is constantly talking about how we will see how we have less forces to work with?
R. We will rejoice that we have no powers because the powers that we have our egoistic powers and we can move to spiritual powers, powers of bestowal, only the condition that we go through the state where for each and every power, you have to turn to the Creator. What we receive from the Creator when we pray to Him, this will be called spirituality, what we are awakened by ourselves without a prayer to the Creator is corporeality.
28. S. (01:13:29) To connect with the ten and to turn to the Creator, these are the two most important things we have. So when will I discover, even a little bit, how to do both this and that?
R. I speak about it every morning, that's it, I have nothing more to add, and you need to try and read it daily and do it.
29. S. (01:14:07) I understand from these things that I have to disconnect my feeling of whether it's good for me or bad for me in the scrutiny between the state of darkness and light, day and night. But it is always felt that I am doing it in an incorrect vessel because I'm not aiming myself correctly, if it's to the goal, but I'm trying to see how do I aim these emotions of day and darkness correctly, how to work correctly with these feelings?
R. This is experience, you have to enter each and every state and try to be as is written annul yourself to the ten and with them make a vessel meaning a question to the Creator, to change you, to fill you, to accompany you to higher degrees. I have nothing more to add here.
S. We get confused with the scrutiny because sometimes you feel very good and it could be even a state of darkness and maybe you feel really bad but then it's a state of the day?
R. So what, what difference does it make as long as you arranged your plea correctly in annulling towards the group. This is first and through the group to the Creator, as if you are the leader with your question to the Creator but pass it through the group, Meaning annu in the group and try with your deficiency to reach the Creator through the group, arrange those things correctly.
30. S (01:16:12) During the darkness, can I feel the friends or do I only feel myself?
R. During the night you usually feel yourself and not the friends; and also you don't feel your whole self but only your egoistic self.
31. S. (01:16:50) In this generation, the desire to receive is constantly growing. How will we justify the Creator, how will we submit like . . . . ?
R. I think that during the lesson you're more detached from your will to receive and then you can feel, receive, have faith that it comes from the upper force, all your states. And then you forget, you come out of the influence of the lesson, of the big group and so on, and each one then delves again into his will to receive and once again he is like a little animal under his will to receive, and thinking from it and feeling reality from it.
