Morning Lesson April 21, 2021 Transcription
1. Rav’s Introduction: To obliterate or blot out the memory of Amalek. But where is he? Where is he, this Amalek? They say that he doesn't reach anywhere, but only those who want to come out of Egypt, who want to come out of their evil inclination, their ego, and come closer to the Creator. Then, Amalek jumps on or is revealed within such people, but he doesn't let them leave that state of Egypt, the state where they are in the will to receive and it is managing them. They are in captivity inside of him. Before that we don't feel the captivity. There is the good Pharaoh, or more or less, but it's not that they are truly in a prison that they cannot leave. There are people who can live in prison and not feel that it is prison, that it is locking them in. It doesn't limit them. This is how we are in this world. We can live and even enjoy and build here all kinds of games and fulfillments for ourselves and think that this is life and there is no more. Only those people who want to come a little bit more out of this world, to discover, to feel, they begin to see that it is not simple. We are precisely in that transition. You might say in the beginning of this transition. This is why to the extent that we are performing all kinds of actions and we don't even know quite what to do, then occasionally an egoistic desire appears in us that does not allow us to have a desire to connect to the friends.
It doesn't push us to reach out to the society, or to a meeting of the friend's, or to all kinds of such actions. Rather, to the opposite, it pulls us as much as possible in all kinds of different forms and manners and excuses that we don't have to come closer to each other: instead of that, we can just study TES, even though we don't understand what it is we are studying, etc. That is, the problem is that we don't quite understand what does it mean to advance by ourselves. On the other hand, if we say that we need to resemble the Creator, the Creator is above the good force and the bad force. Both of them are in his hands. He himself is the force of bestowal and love and he created opposite that, in the created beings, the opposite desire. A will to receive and also hatred and rejection, the ego and we seemingly exist between the two of them. If we would be operating only out of our ego it would be good; if we would be operating only out of the will to bestow, it would also be good. But, if we exist in between the two of them, already we feel ourselves in a bad state. One time is this, one time is that descents and ascents, all kinds of changes in our state and we don't know what to do.
Here, we truly need to position ourselves on the correct basis that we have to manage the bad force and the good force. It doesn't matter how we call it, good or bad, these two forces, the force of connection and the forces of separation, bestowal and reception-- we have to manage these two forces by ourselves. To be like the Creator means to be above these two forces and to manage them, both of them. Usually, we think that the good force is the Creator and the bad force is what he awakens in us, so then we have to cope with the bad. But we also have to cope with the good force. We have to awaken it as well. That is, we have to awaken both of these forces and manage them in tandem. As, let's say, we are driving a car or using any kind of instrument, usually we have to control two opposite forces, the plus and the minus, left and right, etc. It's not just with one force. Therefore, we have to not wait until the bad force awakens in us in order to search for where is the opposite good force, the connection with the Creator, but rather, we by ourselves need to awaken the bad and the good, and not to just be without any action, simply in standby mode, silent.
Therefore, it says that man should always awaken the bad force over or against the good force, and one should manage that war between them. Between us really, we should not look at these two forces as though one is preferred above the other, because there is no bad without the good and no good without the bad. Rather, only in the relation between them we can find exactly at the neutral point between them. Bare working on us. We can awaken them. This is how we build ourselves in a way that we are incorporated with both of them equally, and we can awaken the bad force and upon it later, we can bring the good force, and that way build the system, build our system. To hold on to both of them with both of our hands and see before us the final goal where these two forces, the good force and the bad force, will connect correctly, and through the connection between the two of them, we will build the state of the end of correction. Where the bad force comes and it is revealed entirely, the good force comes and balances it, it corrects it, and that way, with the right combination between the good and the bad, we reach the balanced state, which is correctly organized, let's say. In short, we have to manage with both of our hands the process of our advancement until we reach the correction. In this process we must not wait for the bad force to come.
Many times, we are in the state where it's not this and it's not that, but rather, it's kind of a state where one is seemingly in the air. I don't have anything bad or anything good, life goes by, the days go by, and there is no benefit out of it. Rather, I need to try, as it says, one should always agitate the bad inclination over the good inclination and that way advance. So, we have to try to always be in a state where these two forces exist next to us and we are constantly trying to be in this war. In this management, we are trying to rise with the force of the right, the good force, bestowal, over the bad force. But of course, we also have to maintain the bad force, the force of reception. Without the bad, the good will disappear. Upon what will we feel it, discover it, as good? Therefore, to make it precisely have this correct balance between the bad and the good, between rejection and the inclination towards connection, between the will to receive and the will to bestow, like all opposing forces in nature, the most important thing is the balance. This is our work, the middle line. The middle line is called exactly Israel, Yashar Kel. It aims us to the Creator, who is above these two forces, and we from below also need to arrange ourselves in such a way to establish our states, and in that way to advance and to go forward.
This is why, if we feel in some moment in our life that we are seemingly cancelled, it's not bad, it's not good, it's nothing, it is a sign that we are not awakening the bad force. Now you might say, how come? What do I need it for, to awaken that bad force? Without the bad force, I will have nothing to work on with the good force. This is why, as it says, there was no joy before him, before the Creator, for he created the Heaven and the Earth, these two opposing things, so that from that moment on, it becomes possible to start arranging the correct connection between them, the correct control of one over the other. But without the bad force, the good force will disappear; without the good force, the bad force will not be revealed, because the revelation of each and every force is in order to be opposite the other one. We have to realize our role, to balance the bad and the good together. Because we are actually from the bad force and we have to correct it through the good force so that the two will be in balance. Darkness shall shine as light. The bad force will be revealed only in order to emphasize the good force, the force of the light. The darkness has to be there so that I will see. If there will only be light, I won't be able to see that it is light. I need the contrast, the difference between the two of them, the boundaries that we prefer one over the other, etc. There is a lot of material about it, many excerpts that talk about it. We can find them.
The most important thing is that what we need to do is to constantly discover the evil, the bad, in order to bring upon it the good force. This has to be to begin with. When we get there, we have to discover the good force, the Creator, and for that, we have to discover the bad force, the force of separation, and the collision, the conflict between them. Meaning, it should be clear to us to begin with, what is it that we are doing every moment in life: we want to bring the good force, and for that, we have to discover beforehand the bad force. The bad states have to be revealed first, even though the good force should be ready for work first of all. So first, we have a connection with the Creator, we learn how to do it, how to arrange the 10 and all of these things. Later on, once we have that, then we begin to scrutinize where do we have any evil, where do we have something that is wrong, and then we discover it. After it is pretty much clear where it is, then we are concerned about how we balance the bad force with the good force. Then we can advance on the middle line, which is called the Golden path, towards the purpose of creation. This is how it is each and every time, so we are always in the middle and stepping forward correctly from success to success. This is why we have to discover all the trash, the waste, in order to discover that place.
Like the Creator says, I have created the evil inclination. There was no joy before him, like the day when the Heaven and the Earth were created. Both of these things. This is why we have to try. Most importantly is not to just sit idly. As it says, a fool sitting idly, eating his own flesh. That is the worst possible thing. We burn a lot of time in these states where it's not here, it's not there. Therefore, arranging one against the other, the good force and the bad force, one opposite the other, and to be with the good spirit even when we only feel bad and we are now searching for what might be the good that could balance it to the middle line. We should be happy. Just don't be idle. Don’t be idle without any work. That's on the one hand. On the other hand, the moment that we feel that the bad force is eating us up, is working on us, and it's not that we have invited it, but rather, it is drawn from above, immediately, we have to approach its correction. Even though it is preferable that we will invite both the good and the bad by our own forces between us. We need to learn how we do it in the society, in the group.
Then it is a lot easier and quicker and more accessible, when we invite the bad and we also invite the good. We are not afraid of the fight, in awakening things that are kind of stinging as much as possible; because by that, we can scrutinize and increase our connection and our understanding and the love between us. As it says, love covers all crimes. If there are no crimes, there wouldn’t be any love. So, let us not be afraid. Let's go forward, but in a mature way, with both of these forces, just like we are holding a steering wheel. In such a way, we will continue onward. We can see these things even in our corporeal life. All of the correct actions become clear and are activated by two opposite forces, always, and this stems from the upper systems. Where I have created the evil inclination, I have created the spice of Torah. We need to be between the two of them, to take the evil inclination, that certainly the Creator created with a purpose, and the spice of Torah in order to correct it, and by balancing the two of them, we need to reach revelation, until we will reveal Amalek and correct him. There is no greater correction than when we bring the force of the right, the force of bestowal, upon the force of reception.
We neutralize it, seemingly, from the bad, and then we turn this bad into good. Meaning the bad force joins the good force and we advance. It's not that they cancel out, but rather, they are advancing us, promoting us, towards the goal, so that the bad force joins the good force, and the two of them work together. We need to learn this, how to do it. But in truth, when a person starts to grasp and to see this process, how we go through it, he sees how correct and good it is, and what kind of relief he starts to feel within when everything starts being organized as a single path leading towards the goal. There's no bad in the world. No bad. Everything is only good. Then, the Creator is called good and doing good to the bad and to the good, to everyone, and everyone sees this complementation. We will scrutinize all of these things. In the meantime, we are continuing with the blotting out, the obliteration of Amalek. The correction starts with us having to correct the intention to receive so that it will disappear, and all of the force that we should have from this action with Amalek, we take from him all of the forces from the will to receive, and by it, we elevate, we increase, the will to bestow. Because the level of Bina is a very weak one: it's milk; it's the mother; it's the good force; the force of bestowal; the broad heart; it is all like that. If we connect to it the force of Amalek, specifically, the bad force, in such a way that it surrenders under the force of Bina, the force of bestowal, then the force of Bina gets power. It's no longer neutral, it's not just milk; it becomes blood, it becomes a very strong force. This is how we advance. This is why we need to learn how to work with it. To kill Amalek means the intention of in order to receive, but to take from him all of the forces and transfer this force to bestowal. This is why we need to know how to manage these things together. By that, we are building out of ourselves that same force, that height, which is like the Creator. Like the Creator. This is what it says, “return oh Israel all the way to the Lord your God.” Then we are truly on the right work, bringing ourselves back to the Creator. All of this exists in the blotting out of Amalek, which means only the intention of in order to receive; however, we do need his force. Without his forces, we cannot rise. The degree of bestowal is very passive, neutral. If we don't add to it, this forceful power of reception that wants to rule, then the force of bestowal cannot rise, and it remains on the degree of Hafetz Hesed, delighted in Mercy. That is, powerless.
Now we will answer a few questions that you will have, and then we will go along with the text, and what we are asking from ourselves, from all of us, is that we will try not to be idle in our whole life. That we want, each and every moment, to use it. If we don't have any desire, any force, what should we do? We, by ourselves, need to do it. As it says, one should always agitate the evil inclination over the good inclination. We need to search. Where are these forces, these desires, intentions, thoughts, that are against connection, against unity, and to start even from the corporeal level in our connection in the group. It doesn't matter where it is. The most important thing is that I awaken myself, ultimately, to advance towards the Creator. If I feel that I am not drowning the good force over the bad force, the force of connection upon the force of separation, the force of the Creator upon the force of the created being, or the Creator upon Amalek; if I do not arrange it in such a way that one will be upon the other, then I am idle. I am not advancing. I am just standing still and standing still doesn't help me in any way. About this, it says, a fool is sitting idle, eating his own flesh. 2. S. (25:32) I heard you always said in the past that we don't need to relate to the bad Force. What is that negative force you are talking about, how do we awaken?
R. I said something some time ago and now I'm saying something different so you're right what you're recalling what I said before because then we were learning how we do not pay attention to the bad force because we didn't know yet how to manage it like that. e're not doing anything just like a little child, a baby when he is born whatever he does it's all for the better, we don't criticize him at all, nothing, if he broke something, if he did something, it doesn't matter, what it is the most important thing is that he is alive. Later on, he grows up then we already need to relate to him differently. We can explain to him this is forbidden, this is not worthwhile, watch out, do this, this is better. We start to teach him how to scrutinize his actions, what he can do in order to become a human being.
Adam means to be similar to the Creator, that's what we're trying to do right now we're not trying to work with the evil inclination but now we're starting to study this. How to work with the evil inclination in order to rise to the degree of Adam to resemble the Creator. As much as the evil inclination will grow in you. You have to be on top of it, to manage it correctly, to make it similar to the Creator. Otherwise, it will not happen, it will not take place so let us try to study this. There was a time when we didn't pay attention to the evil inclination as if it doesn't exist. Just for it to let us have established let's say the first connection in the 10. 4. S. (32:06) How can we capture and keep the balance between these two opposite powers so that we may construct a that would enable us to continue with its stability in the middle line?
R. This is what we are trying to do right now. In the beginning of the work is in that I check myself, can I be connected, adhered to, devoted to the Creator in order to bestow through the society in some way, if I see that I can't then I have a place to work. When some desire awakens in me that is pulling me in all directions maybe I'm criticizing everyone in the Creator and I'm not content with my life. Here I have to arrange myself so that I am first of all happy that the Creator is giving me work, this is why it says that one should only always agitate the evil inclination upon the good inclination and I myself have to do it. Even if I don't see that the evil inclination is being revealed and hindering me and slandering me with all kinds of disregard for the spiritual work for connection between us.
We have to constantly awaken the society each one in the ten and the society in general at least from this lesson and onwards that we check ourselves am I with this forces that I have the force of resistance to the Creator, to the group and also a force that I crown over that force of rejection, which is the force of connection, I am with these two forces. I am happy, content that I have these two forces because from the two of them I will also see the middle line, which is the way that leads me to correction, the end of correction. The end of correction is when we have the entire evil force that is revealed and the opposite force that is revealed and this is how we build the image of the Creator has revealed in us. To the extent we are capable of crowning the good force of love and connection upon the bad force that is inside rejection, separation that needs two forces when one is inside, the others outside. 5. S. (35:42) You always said that we should aspire only to the good, love, connection and the Creator will add the coarseness to us and today we should also awaken the bad, what does it mean?
R. We need to be concerned that if I am without the bad force and if I am trying to be in a good force then promptly the evil force awakens. I cannot awaken my ego by myself, it is not in my hands and in general it is not even my business. My business is to perform corrections over the bad force with the good force so if I don't discover the bad force, if the Creator does not reveal it from above, it is a sign I am not ready for it. Then I need to try to perform such actions towards connection and coming closer between us and immediately I should detect that I don't want it, I don't feel like it, I forget about it again and again and I do something else. Meaning by this I awaken it, this is what we mean by which one should always agitate the bad forces upon the good and the good force upon the bad force, the good inclination upon the bad inclination and vice versa.
6. S. (37:30) Now when we are learning about the force of Amalek we can feel this special force that repels one from the connection with the ten even when we participate in all the events, the zoom there is such a feeling together with how we fall from this connection during the day with the friends together with that we add the force and hold on to it as well?
R. You can build the good force for it to be next to you if you don't have the one for the Lord has made one against the other. The Creator makes these two forces together parallel if you truly want to awaken the bad force then it is if you want to make it bigger through the good, to cover it with the good. If you want to discover the good force then you must have something over which this good force will be revealed so you have to have the bad force. This is why we actually have to be happy in that the will to receive the egoistic desire awakens in us rejections, the conflict, friction and all kinds of incorrect relations between us. Because this is the place to work upon this we can more and more and more draw the light and give it a place to be revealed and to cover and cover and cover all of these crimes that are being revealed, this is called that love covers all crimes. How will we discover that?
S. It is clear that we need together with that in parallel how to add the good?
R. By turning to the Creator through the group. why through the group? Because where do you discover the bad, we're not going to discover this evil in our corporeal life but only in the connection between us where this evil gets a spiritual characterization. S. If you find out about this feeling of derision and disregard you don't have the strength away from the friends, how to catch the Amalek by the tail and pull the Creator into it immediately?
R. You need to feel project love and confidence on the path this is the way it is the good. This is the way the bad force is always being revealed and I'm always happy with the revelation of the evil. As Baal HaSulam says I'm happy when the wicked ones become revealed, when they come out of their holes, without those wicked ones we would have zero hopes for correction. The revelation of evil is already the beginning of the salvation, a person who doesn't feel bad in his life, seemingly the Creator doesn't want him to advance. From where do we advance out of the lack in our life the Creator, gave us a feeling of lack of deficiency and it seems to us that we cannot reach anything good corporeally, in our family, at work, in all kinds of other things, there is no sufficient filling in it there. This is why we all came to the wisdom of Kabbalah we are here because we feel ourselves as empty, not successful. There is something in life but we are not able to achieve it other people are achieving it with all kinds of small earthly goals and they're willing to get this time in the fulfillment from life and they settled for it but we can’t, we can’t. Sometimes we once again return to corporeal business and come back and again we come back to the wisdom of Kabbalah, the wisdom of the spiritual fulfillment.
S. What does it mean that I discover the state when there is a certain repulsion? What does it mean that I blot Amalek?
R. To obliterate Amalek means to erase the intention to receive and instead bring an intention to bestow. When we are in separation in some conflict and instead of it, we bring connection and love. Just like we see this in families many times subconsciously, couples awaken some kind of friction between them, right and it's as if they are not happy with each other, it's as if they sting each other in some way a little bit like playing some kind of game. Why is that, in order to awaken the love, awaken the embrace. We see this happening in our life, if we become experts in awakening the bad in order to discover the good then we will be able to bring peace all over the world because people do not understand the nation's, the superpowers, the countries. They don't understand that following all of the frictions between them stands truly the desire for connection however they don't know how to express it correctly we will talk about it later on so it won't confuse us. But in truth and families we see this sometimes that a couple where everything is good, they feel that something is missing, some kind of pepper and spice that we want to add to the relations between us because otherwise it is impossible, love covers all crimes, love cannot be without crimes. This is why one who knows how to walk with these two lines in a waking the bad force and also by covering it with the good force he has the two forces in life in reality and then he can advance until he truly reaches the end of correction with all of these desires, he acquires this cover and then he reaches the absolute complete love.
S. So in this 10 how should we awaken this pepper the spice?
R. You need to try in the 10 when we're starting to learn about it, you need to try and arrange, establish this state that we have a bad the good and how we are constantly in this balanced state where evil is revealed, we are happy about it and we come to it with a good covering. Until the evil is revealed in such a way that when we cover it with the good, we will discover the Creator himself, he will begin to reveal himself. Meaning we are starting to learn with you about the action of receiving, revealing spirituality and practice.
7. S. (46:47) As far as I understand Amalek is the opposite force and if we struggle with it, it keeps us only, why are we trying to erase or destroy it?
R. We don't destroy the force, we destroy the intention. Amalek is separating us specifically because it was revealed as the thing that separates us, we wish to make of these two forces of separation, the force of connection because with only one we can make a revelation, we take Amalek and we turn him into the Creator. Amalek is the revelation of the Creator, the force of connection and the opposite side, the negative side instead of the positive side. That's it, so we need to rejoice when it appears and we're not running away, we're not falling, we don't curse out those states when the evil forces reveal. On the contrary we have to turn the evil force into the good force, there is no light except the one that emerged, that grew out of the darkness and specifically by growing out of darkness the light can exist, it is written.
8. S. (48:36) This exercise of awakening the bad force is this work that we have to do only when we reach the degree which is between Egypt and the land of Israel or should we work on it now when we understand it according to what you are teaching us?
R. Do you have a 10?
S. Yes, dear Rav, I do.
R. Okay very good, if you have a 10, do you have states where you're not connected beautifully, you don't feel that you are closed through your disposition towards the Creator and spirituality if you have misunderstandings, lack of connection, lack of consideration, if you feel you are not whole, this is already the revelation of Amalek the force of the ego with which you can work. If it is not in the 10, we don't have such examples in life, not in family, not in work, no, only in the 10, Meaning the 10 people more or less will have a spiritual goal to reach the Creator that's why they have to build a system where the Creator can appear according to equivalence of form between them and the relationships between us. They form such a relationship between us where the Creator can clothe himself there reveal himself there then you have a place for work that's why it says either connection or death either, you are in the 10 or you are dead spirituality there is no chance of reaching it.
9. S. (51:09) How can we place the good above the bad?
R. If we discover the bad between us, that the important thing is their relationships between us in the 10 and the relationships between us and the Creator where we don't feel I am attracted to him, I don't care, he's in such a state where he is neither here nor there, it's like a dead state. There's nothing worse than that I have to immediately look for ways to reveal either a longing for the Creator or repulsion from the Creator, it doesn't matter. It's even written in kabbalistic text that a person who wishes to bless the Creator or curse the Creator is more important than a neutral state, he doesn't want to even belong to it, doesn't even want to talk because then he has a force of ejection and what to work with and how to bring the explanation to this state. Each and every moment we need to see how I am drawn to the Creator more and more and if not, what is the evil force that stands against and awakens me in the opposite way that's why the evil inclination is called the help against him, this way by being against the Creator, by awakening me in this way it is helping me, it is help against.
10. S. (53:20) How should we awaken the bad and to what extent?
R. Look, we can scrutinize this while we are in a group but on the condition that from the get-go, we are going to increase the goal, the connection of love between us. Hence when we awaken our intention through that is to reveal the good force that's why it says that ‘anywhere you turn, turn to the right. Right means the force of bestow. We have to awaken that first, and then from that to continue toward the forces of rejection, the bad, opposite forces. Try to do it and see just to what extent you are going to be yearning for the Creator, His help, as ‘He who makes peace above and in the end of correction, there's complete connection between good and evil, He will also make peace upon us.’ We will also have a part of the end of correction and we'll connect with the right combination with the evil forces and will feel to what extent the good forces are revealed. We cannot have the good forces of connection and love, which is the Creator, we cannot have that if we do not have in our foundation the opposite qualities, where we hate one another retract one another are repel one another, as it is written in the Book of Zohar about the students of Rabbi Shimon.
S. How can we know to what extent, let's say, how many such bad forces we should we awaken 10 grams, maybe a hundred? How much of the left line so we don't end up causing destruction, damage?
R. This is a good question by a person who still hasn't walked this path and balanced these two lines, so try it try to gradually more and more grow the good force over the bad force that you awaken, when you awake both, and you will see how your two hands will be on the steering wheel and you will manage yourself correctly in the middle line. 11. S. (57:06) You just told us, Rav, if we don't destroy the force, we only destroy the intention. Then what does it mean between the good and bad intention and good and bad forces? R. The difference between connection and separation. The difference between love and connection or domination and hate, this is the difference. S. So should we support each other if a friend gives a clear sign that he is ready to unite together and think about each other? Should we support each other in this?
R. Or what not doing anything? We gathered in the 10 to hold each other to connect, to collect the forces to reveal the Creator within them and you are saying that one friend awakens from this and another doesn't want to follow that.
S. But there is just no answer.
R. From whom?
S. No response from the rest of the friends, one awakens and the rest it is as if they don't respond, they don't see it.
R. So what do you recommend that we do?
S. Well that is the question is it enough that I wake them up or should I also wait for their response?
R. We need to reveal Amalek the intention to receive and, in the end, to see that it exists in each of us, inside of us because all who fault, fault in their own fault so if I discover in it someone else. Why specifically the word remember is because we must not forget, for now this is the way it is for us, we will come to deeper interpretations but we have to remember that all of creation is basically Amalek that it is opposite from the Creator and it must exist so that we will give it the depiction of the Creator.

R. For a long time, we have been in this state of hanging between heaven and earth and there is no bad or good awakened in me, I'm sort of asleep and disconnected from the spiritual development. I am like a cat or a dog who if they have nothing to do, they just lie down and sleep. I am also in that state, how do I awaken myself from that state, this is why it is written that one should always vex the evil inclination over the good inclination and in that way he advances. I have to keep awakening in me these sources, the good inclination and the bad inclination and when do I need them the Creator when I have a bad inclination that I can't cope with. So where is this bad inclination where can I awaken, where in this world do I get this evil inclination is only from the 10.
