Part 3:
Purifying the Heart - Selected Excerpts from the sources. #3
Reading #3 (00:24) Rabbash writes “Man has no control over his heart..” twice
1.S. (02:06) It says that the Creator will give him another heart. What is another heart?
R. A different type of control, the heart controls a person, it says no one can control his heart to be able to change the feeling in the heart, if the heart feels what his contemporaries tell it then the heart takes after the majority. That's it there's nothing you can do. Meaning the heart is controlling there's nothing that you can do. Whether you feel it or you are aware of it or not, that is your landlord.
S. What should a person yearn for when he wants another heart? What does he yearn for?
R. He doesn't even know that's why he's telling you, for this there's nothing else, but to overcome those actions, what are those actions? To perform acts of bestowal. As much as possible, any direction he can ,as much as he can and ask the Creator to give him another heart, a heart of bestowal, that's called and purifies our hearts'. But to be persistent in this and to constantly demand it inside like with a demand towards the Creator to change my heart, that is our work.
S. What are acts of bestowal?
R. Acts of the bestowal is when you take the other's desire and fill it as if the other wanted to fill himself.
S. But when we say bestowal we also means the intention?
R. On my behalf that is called an act of bestowal. The action includes like every other action. A Rosh and a Guf, that the Rosh is the intention and the Guf is the action.
S. How do we take both the Rosh, the head and the Guf, the body, and put them into this action?
R. That's the way we do it when I want to do some kind of action toward something or someone. First I have an intention in my head, in my Rosh, I plan things, I think about it, then with my body and with my desire.
S. But here he says that it's only about performing acts of bestowal?
R. A deed is also in the Rosh, the head and also in the Guf, body.
S. What comes first?
R. The Rosh.
S. If I feel I don't understand the order of actions, I first feel my desire.
R. First the Rosh. I start by thinking how I can do a certain action toward something toward someone, then I perform it I implement it.
S. But I have to feel first the friend's desire?
R. Without that you can't. What are you going to do for him? If you don't feel his desire, if you don't feel how you can fill him. What are you going to do for him if you cannot feel his desire? If you don't feel how you can feel him. What's our bestowal towards one another? That I want to fill myself and my friend in what he would want to fill himself, and nobody can fill himself, only when man will help his friend.
S. Then what should I be thinking about after feeling the friend's desire?
R. How I depict my friend's desire and how to come closer to him, his desire and how I feel his desire, and how I check if the friend is truly completely satisfied.
S. Then only then comes the end of the action?
R. That is the action.
2. S. (06:56) It turns out that we have to share our deficiencies with one another?
R. No we don't, we have to feel.
S. Feel inside?
R. Yes, that's called as one man with one heart.
S. How do I feel the deficiencies of the friends when my eyes are egoistic? I see only my actions of bestowal.
R. An effort on himself and a prayer towards the Creator.
S. Effort to submit himself?
R. An effort to feel the friend and a prayer to the Creator to feel the friend. It's like when we talk about the Partzufim that Galgalta fills, AB, SAG and so on. So it takes his desire, let's say, of the next Partzuf, and then accepts it as her own desire and fills it with her coupling.
S. To feel it as her own desire is it through actions repeating actions of bestowal when we give gifts to the friends and we try to bestow and this will require the desire?
R. Yes, you can say that.
3. S. (08:29) There's an article by Baal HaSulam, I think, where the father doesn't give the child what he wants he wants a pin to scratch his eye, so there's a state whereas the adult a responsible adult, you don't want to give the child what he wants.
R. If it's not for his own benefit.
S. That's my calculation. It's not an egoistic calculation when you see a certain responsibility to stop everything for a second, so you have this place or even when I feel the desire of the one who's outside of me, maybe it's not for his benefit and I have to act in this way?
R. Yes.
4. S. (09:27) Is the request to feel the desire of the friend part of the prayer to change the heart?
R. Yes.
S. Which is the same really?
R. Yes.
5. S. (09:45) The person has no control over his heart. Can he control the changing of his heart?
R. There is control, but by praying and asking, subjugating himself, not a control that he's in control, but being in control by the Creator loving him, wanting for his correction to correct him and so on.
S. What exactly is the control of the heart?
R. The control of the heart is that the heart, meaning man's desires, eventually will be in control of the whole of man.
6. S. (10:42) There's an entire session about taking in a deficiency from the friend and you describe it as Partzufim and the first article that we read, ‘The seat of the scornful’, he says that they sit and see deficiencies of others and not with themselves, like Rabbi said let me see the merit of the friends and not their deficiency, what is that point of precision of seeing a deficiency as an opportunity to love and bestow to the friend, compared to destroying or disrupting the connection, the subtlety there, when I insist on, I see a deficiency of a friend as something?
R. What he's lacking, not that you see a deficiency.
S. That's the difference that I see something that he lacks?
R. Yes.
Reading excerpt #4 (11:59) RABASH, Article No. 268, "One Learns Only Where One’s Heart Desires”. Twice.
7. R. (14:13) To change the will to receive into the will to bestow. That is what a person needs, to just see in his dreams that it will happen to him.
8. S. (14:46) What is the heart of flesh when you come close to the Creator and replace the stony heart?
R. The stony heart is our ego. That usually we feel it that it is opened only for what we want in our ego and clogged towards what we see in the others, that's all. That's the stony heart. We cannot exchange it, it is in us and it is only soft towards our own desires, and the heart that comes from the heart of flesh, is the heart that wants and yearns to reach connection with the others and to share himself with the others, that's the heart of flesh.
S. What happens in the heart of flesh if there is no movement if the stony heart is all closed off. What happens in the heart of flesh in the connection between us?
R. What happens in the heart I cannot say. I'll just tell you this, in there instead, except for the will to receive, there are nine more Sefirot that take care, or they belong to bestowal. That's the difference between the heart of stone and the heart of flesh, and by those nine Sefirot the first nine, that are in my heart, I can feel the others.
9. S. (17:14) That's what the heart feels, the the generations that his contemporaries tell him and he takes off after the majority and he needs to be with the friends?
R. Yes.
10. S. (17:37) Does integration in the ten or the friends involves two screens; one with the Creator and the other screen with the friends when we bestow upon the friends?
R. Yes. But in truth it's the same vessel, it's the same vessel.
11. S. (18:10) Is the prayer in order to bestow, does it build the Torah inside of us?
R. Yes, certainly.
S. Is the connection the meaning is this is a direct connection to the Creator?
R. Yes.
12. S. (18:43) If man feels everything only inside of him, how can he tell the difference if he started feeling the friend now and not himself?
R. I cannot tell you, but to the extent that his heart opens up, to the extent that he is incorporated with the desires of the friend he begins to feel him.
S. Could you give us an exercise that we can do and then we will specifically start seeing the difference that I feel him and not me?
R. Try to enter into the other, clothe on him, feel him as if you are inside of him and try to be close to him. Connect, embrace and you will see that you have a certain inclination toward another and the rest the Creator will do. Ask him and he will do it.
13. S. (20:35) It is written in the excerpt to ask the Creator to give him another heart. My question is, I never asked for myself just for other friends. My question is: Can we ask this for ourselves or only for our friends or for both?
R. For everyone, for the friend and for the world we need to ask.
14. S. (21:25) It seems that the heart of stone is like a prison that doesn't let us out. What depends on the ability to get out of that prison, to exchange that heart with some mutual prayer we do in the 10 together or my own deep heart, deep deep prayer in order to be released of the heart of stone?
The heart of stone that is controlling us now it's like a prison we are in and we don't see any way to exit, so what on what does it depend to be released from that prison, a mutual prayer in the 10?
R. Yes exactly that. It's very close and together it's not simple at all.
15. S. (22:53) no translation/Bulgarian
R. We were given a corrupt heart an evil heart so we would gradually feel that it is indeed so more and more, and ask the Creator to change it to replace it, to a true heart, true feeling.
16. S. (23:46) In excerpt 4 he writes that the Creator gave me a pure heart. It's a quote from Psalms 51 there's a beautiful explanation for whoever wants chapter 51 in Psalms.
R. Thank you.
17. S. (24:17) I heard earlier that in the heart of flesh except for the will to receive there's the first nine sapphires where the bestowal to the friends takes place, that the addition of the first nine sapphires is what makes a difference between the heart of stone and the heart of flesh. So, when that happens and the first nine join, what happens to the Kingdom that was in the stony heart?
R. It becomes a heart of flesh, gradually it becomes a heart of flesh.
S. To begin with it's a will to receive for himself and then a person clothes in himself like you said, when he opens towards the friends so what happens to the will to receive that shut him in himself earlier?
R. The will to receive slowly opens up, connects to in order to bestow. His heart comes closer to the others, to friends and he gradually gets incorporated with them.
S. He doesn't want to receive anymore?
R. Not for himself.
S. So it's closed in the restriction?
R. Yes, it's closed.
18. S. (25:48) Sometimes we say that we have to connect between us, not in me, not at him but between us and sometimes we say that I need to penetrate the friend's hearts or bring the friends into my heart. So, can you explain that depiction we have to aspire towards?
R. There are various forms of work that we express using our words, but ultimately we need to reach a state where all of us are in one heart.
S. That one heart where is it?
R. There's no “where” it fills all of reality.
S. My heart that I feel now?
R. Now you feel your will to receive.
S. Yes. So from that state what is to purify one heart?
R. To purify or to depict one heart, I don't know.
S. What does it mean to clothe the friend's heart like the exercise you gave us to feel and to come close to him and to hug him. Where is the friend's heart if I only feel my will to receive?
R. So there is no friend's heart because I can't feel it.
S. So where do you start searching for it?
R. By opening your heart.
S. What does it mean to open my heart?
R. You wish to feel the friend inside of you.
S. So in my heart?
R. Yes.
S. So it's not between us?
R. No.
S. Inside me?
R. Yes.
S. So what happens to my will to receive?
R. You wish to open your will to receive and feel in it everything the friend feels.
S. And what about my feeling now, my will to receive that feels himself?
R. You wish to rid yourself of it.
S. And that is what I want to do with each and every friend?
R. Yes, with everyone. With all created beings.
S. Let's start with the 10. When I want to do this exercise of bringing the friend into my heart, so what do I need to do one by one or everyone together?
R. Yes, let it be one by one.
S. How to depict it. Let's say I have 10 friends in the 10. What does it mean that I'm taking the first friend, the second friend is their differences between them?
R. Of course there are differences, you need to imagine how each and every friend occupies a space in your heart and fills it.
S. A specific space?
R. A specific space but it's not felt as such. The first, the second and the third and they occupy the space of the heart. It's just like in the air you have many radio waves and they don't interfere with one another because each one is working with different frequencies.
S. So every friend feels all of my heart?
R. Yes.
S. And how to depict the difference between them?
R. The difference between them is exactly in how each one fills it with his own frequency, his own kind of love.
S. So when I want to do the exercise today that you gave before that I want to bring the friend into my heart. So how can I imagine the first frequency, the second frequency, the third?
R. Open your heart and that's it.
S. What's that? Open your heart?
R. You want everyone to enter your heart.
19. S. (30:02) Also in music there's this term called harmony and we talked about it a lot. That there's one note there's no feeling in it, but if there's a few notes, so they start having relationships, let's say, me and the friend, if there's harmony it means that it's a good relationship and it sounds whole. If there's a disharmony it can be unpleasant, so in the moment the friends feel the harmony, it sounds like there's less work, when the friends there's like a dissonance it sounds like that's where there's more work, so that's there's a place to pray to bring them into my heart, to have some wholeness with the whole ten.
R. Between everyone.
S. Like the whole chord that sounds so good that the Creator is happy from it?
R. Yes.
S. That's what we're expecting, a good attitude with every friend in harmony and wholeness?
R. Yes.
S. And until the Creator will not give it to us, we will not relax from asking for it.
R. The more you advance the more you will feel this feeling of this harmony greater, and greater?
S. Also that there's a beautiful term in music: the greatest musician Beethoven, etc. and the classical music they use this trick that in order to make a better harmony at the end of the song they created a disharmony that causes you and makes you feel unpleasant.
R. That's what happens to us in life. We need to feel, to go through all those disharmonies between us in order to eventually feel the full harmony.
S. So the Creator is the best composer in the world.
R. Of course.
S. And we have to follow his melody?
R. Yes. May we succeed.
20. S. (32:08) I heard you saying that I have to depict how every friend feels a certain space in my heart and feels it, in its own type of love, so I have to imagine the friend and the love that the friend has in a different friend than that friend has, etc. and what, I want to absorb all of these types of love that they're showing me and copy myself into?
R. Yes, relative to them. You need to pass it through your senses, through your heart, and you return it to them. Slowly we're moving into a more internal reception.
21. S. (33:12) Annulment to the Creator, justifying it and agreeing to the process of correction, it's also part of purifying the heart?
R. Yes, there's nothing in the world unless it works in that direction.
S. But there's inverting my desire and the will to receive. I feel it feel it as raw and rude against everyone in the world, so to turn it into bestowal that's the process of correction, and then there's nothing to agree to be in this process, it's different.
R. Okay, but nevertheless, everything is moving in the same direction.
S. How to reach annulment to the Creator to justify him of being this process?
R. Through the help of the friends each she'll help his friends.
S. I don't feel connected to the friends. It's between a person to the Creator. The friends are friends correcting the desire is through the friends that's all right but to agree to be in this process is between man and the Creator?
R. No.
S. How not?
R. No no, you nevertheless, need to see how the connection between you and the friends and the connection between you and the Creator and the friends are on the way to that. That they are holding the connection to the Creator.
S. To agree to the process of the correction it's something between me and the friends?
R. Yes.
S. That will bring me to agree to the process?
R. Yes.
22. S. (35:02) You said that we have to do it with all the creative beings, but in the ten, we are in a ten, so I imagine this with each and every friend, but last Friday our ten there was another one connected to us and we felt that we cannot do it, there's a problem between the tens, as if each ten wants to give contentment to the Creator and wants to connect, but it's not working, not together. The question is maybe it's too soon, but to some extent we found it like two magnets repelling each other, at the end this connection with everyone is it like one ten that has, that used to do towards another friend and we need to take another ten as if it's another friend, a ten as a friend?
R. Yes, you have to accept everyone.
23. S. (36:39) There's a degree between the stony heart and the heart of flesh?
R. Yes.
S. For example there's love your friend as yourself, but before that there's shall not do to the friend what you hate done to you?
R. Yes.
S. So the degree in the middle, what's the degree in the middle and this example?
R. Which example?
S. Between the stony heart and the heart of flesh?
R. Both the stony heart and the heart of flesh are spiritual degrees, spiritual degrees, and that's why what exists between them is a person's scrutiny, what he does, and how he turns the stony heart each time to a heart of flesh. When we approach the goal and then for us the stony heart and the heart of flesh begin to be very close to each other, close, and we move quickly from one to the other.
S. In a practical action I start from a state please, please I want it for myself I need it, and my goal is the friend wants it, give it to him, but between the two, is taking my desire and asking for the friend?
R. Yes.
S. And then it will go up to the goal?
R. Yes. It's not about you wanting the friend to receive what you want rather you want the friend to receive what he wants.
24. S. (39:31) The exercises we got to try to bring the friends Into the heart, every excerpt says there's no control over the heart, so how can the exercises happen?
R. There's no control, but that to bring the friend into the heart this is something you must imagine and must depict and ask the Creator to do it. You want to bring the whole world into your heart.
S. But not to the heart I have now, that's exchanging it to bring the friend into my heart that's already what he's talking about.
R. Let's say.
25. S. (40:56) What's the sensitivity that has to be developed in us when our heart opens towards the friend?
R. When our hearts open toward the friend that's a totally different deficiency already, it's my heart that's starting to acquire the form of flesh.
S. I'm asking about my heart, but let's say now I'm hearing the friend and I want to absorb him and bring him into my heart?
R. You're not doing anything about it, only in your heart, it doesn't need to feel anything yet.
S. But how do I look at him and how can I be really in attention to the friends deficiency?
R. According to your heart you feel the friend's heart and you want to be with him in one heart and then you try each time to enter into his desires, his dreams, and aspirations, you want to help him realize what's in his heart.
S. And I have to look at it as maybe the others are me, or it's not me?
R. You want to help each and every other, you want to connect and you want to be in each and every other to help him reach his goal.
26. S. (43:26) What's the attitude towards the Creator in this whole process that I want to enter the friend's heart?
R. That eventually we're coming close to him.
S. That's at the end, I want to ask.
R. You're on the way on each and every step is on the way to him.
S. Yes but, when I want to connect to the friends, so I don't grab the Creator at that point? I want to absorb?
R. No, not in the first steps certainly.
27. S. (44:16) You said we need to ask and he will do the inversion. How can we adhere to that and how can I help the friends adhere to faith that he will do the inversion?
R. Give him good examples on the level that they can grasp and can resemble.
S. What can strengthen the faith that the Creator will change our heart?
R. You wanted to happen and you are trying to show them that. That is how it will be.
28. S. (44:56) Is it as if Malchut changes or has all the nine Sefirot with her and she fills them and she discovers that all the Sefirot are more important to her than herself and she forgets about herself. Is it like that with the friends?
R. Yes.
29. S. (45:39) Everyday we collect prayers and when we do the prayers for the ten each friend expressed a prayer and then we create this one single prayer. Is this a process of bestowing and opening the heart to the friends if we consciously pray with the intention for that friend's prayer, that is intermingled in this process, to be answered by the Creator?
R. The part and the sum total, we want each one to receive an answer. For each part and for everything.
S. When King David said create me a new heart and never take your presence from me, Oh Lord. What is the prayer in that Psalm, because it was mentioned in the article we read here. He didn't just say create a new in me a new heart he said, a new steadfast spirit in me, he also went on to say never take your presence from me.
R. Oh, of King David I don't know, don't ask me about him, I'm not so close with him. These are spiritual degrees very complex ones. I can say something about it, but I don't want to clothe myself in him, King David. But we will come to it and we will have everything, everything we are learning we will feel all the degrees up to the highest degree possible.
