Daily Lesson (Afternoon) April 19, 2024
Part 1: Shamati, 41. “What Is Greatness and Smallness in Faith?”
Reader: Hello everybody, we will be reading from the writings of Baal HaSulam, we'll be reading Shamati, Article 41, What is Greatness and Smallness in Faith. You can find the material on Sviva Tova and kabbalahmedia.info. Rav, please.
M. Laitman: Yes, so let's first read it once, and then we'll ask and talk, maybe there's something.
Reading Article: (00:34) “What is Greatness and Smallness in Faith?”
It is written, “And they believed in the Lord, and in His servant Moses.” We must know that the lights of Pesach [Passover] have the power to impart the light of faith. Yet, do not think that the light of faith is something small, since greatness and smallness depend only on the receivers.
When one does not work on the path of truth, he thinks that he has too much faith, and with the amount of faith he has, he can dispense to several people, and then they will be fearing and whole.
However, one who wants to serve the Creator in truth, and constantly examines himself, if he is willing to work devotedly “and with all your heart,” he sees that he is always deficient in faith, meaning that he is always short of it.
Only when one has faith can one feel that he is always seated before the King. When one feels the greatness of the King, one can discover the love in two ways: in a good way, and in a way of harsh judgments. Hence, the one who seeks the truth is the one who needs the light of faith. If such a person hears or sees some way to obtain the light of faith, he is happy as though he has found a great fortune.
Hence, those people who seek the truth, on the holiday of Pesach, which is capable of the light of faith, we read in the Parasha [Torah portion], “and they believed in the Lord, and in His servant Moses,” because then is a time that can impart that.
M. Laitman: Questions, please. It's worthwhile for you to read it again, yes.

M. Laitman: Yes. Alright, let's hear a few questions.
Question (Turkiye 2): (06:52) How does one come to the deficiency of the light of faith so that one can establish a need and an awareness?
M. Laitman: Gradually, by a person constantly thinking about faith. Meaning, that he feels every given moment of his life that he is in contact with the Creator, that he is connected to the Creator, and then in such a way as he is constantly seeking, looking to be connected to the Creator this way, he is rewarded with truly feeling the Creator, meaning feeling the light of faith. Faith is the feeling of the Creator, it's very important, it's the most important thing.
Question (Eng 1): (08:11) It says here that if he is willing to work devotedly and with all thy heart, this troubles me because I know, and we felt this in the Ten, that we don't work devotedly and it's a long way off this state of devotion. I want to be devoted and I suspect we will turn our lives completely over to the Creator when we realize the strength of what we need to do. How can we achieve such a powerful, dedicated, lifelong devotion when we feel so fickle and small?
M. Laitman: The fact that we want it, we try to want it constantly all the time, nonstop, that I'm lacking nothing but the feeling of the Creator, and then by this I search more, more for the point of contact every given moment of my life, and this is how I advance towards it.
Student: Thank you, Rav, you've helped us achieve that as well, in the Ten, and the whole Kli. Thank you very much.
M. Laitman: Collect those questions. I'm willing to work on that to answer you guys in every possible way.
Question (Latin 12): (10:24) He sent a question, and he's asking how and why can Israel influence the judgments and the good of the world?
M. Laitman: Israel can bestow to the same extent that anyone can bestow because they're trying to attain the connection with the root of humanity, with the Creator. And through Him, to try to bestow upon all of humanity.
Question (Hadera 1): (11:13) Rav, is it correct to say that a person who wants to work for the Creator on the path of truth, needs to be in a feeling of lack of faith and that there are deficiencies in this?
M. Laitman: Yes, yes, he feels it's like that.
Student: If he doesn't have this feeling, is it an indication that he's not striving enough to be on the path of truth?
M. Laitman: Yes.
Student: Can we say that this is also like this after the Machsom?
M. Laitman: Of course, yes, yes.
Question (Women Almaty): (12:06) My question is about the Segula, the power, remedy. It's a sort of fortune if I understand correctly. Is it giving us the light of faith, or is the Segula what's revealed to us after we have gotten the light of faith?
M. Laitman: The Segula is the light of faith.
Student: This is the light of faith itself? I have another question. What's the difference between the Segula and receiving the reforming light when we are yearning?
Question (Women Moscow 5): (12:52) Before we exit Egypt there needs to be a leader, Moses. Can we grow him in our Ten, and where do we get it from?
M. Laitman: Out of your yearning and aspiring forward, such a feeling awakens in you.
Student: With this force, we start to work and we ask for this to take us out of Egypt?
M. Laitman: Yes.
Question (Women Heb 2): (13:28) Question about faith, is faith something I build or is it something received from above? Does a person build the faith?
M. Laitman: A person yearns, and faith comes to him from above.
Question (Women MAK): (14:00) You say that the smallness of faith is a state of annulment, and to receive everything from the Creator in the work between us and the greatness of the faith is a state of annulment, but I continue to do active actions toward connection with the friends, to delight them?
M. Laitman: Yes, you can say it that way.
Student: How to know in the moment of connection between friends, what is our responsibility in this step and next?
M. Laitman: I didn't understand the question.
Student: How to understand what is the responsibility that's on us in the time of connection with the friends in the Ten in order to learn from this state an action, and in order to get a deeper connection? We always are doing the same actions, but how to increase this sensitivity to what the Creator wants from us at that moment so that we'll go from connection to a deeper connection?
M. Laitman: I understood, I understand. That's simply our work. That's our work, we need to constantly think about how we can be more and more connected between us and to turn to the Creator with that so that from our connection a common yearning to the Creator will be created.
Student: Last question, how is the lack of connection with the upper force going to be felt more in us and to always look for this connection?
M. Laitman: That will come, that will come.
Question (Women Turkiye 8): (16:04) Why do we fall from faith even when we repeatedly testify that we have been heard by the Creator?
M. Laitman: We cannot hold on to faith without any cessations. We always need to fall and rise again and fall and rise again. In such a way, start, stop, we advance towards greater and greater faith.
Question (Women Moscow 8): (16:46) How do we add to faith, do we do it?
M. Laitman: That the Creator does but despite the fact that we want to, in lieu of us wanting to constantly grow our faith, and we want together, each as an individual but in essence together, we want to be in complete faith. Complete faith is such a faith that it completely replaces reason, feeling, meaning everything I could possibly receive from the Creator.
Question (Women ITA): (18:00) The question is, is this recognition of lack of faith revealed through the greatness of Boreh which changes and reveals itself day by day?
M. Laitman: It can change any given day, and we want it to change and that's how we get closer and closer to the Creator.
Question (Women Moscow 6): (18:49) Baal HaSulam writes when one has the extent of faith and the greatness of the King one can discover the love in two ways, in a good way and in a way of harsh judgments. How to discover this in a good way?
M. Laitman: Constantly yearn for the Creator, be in constant yearning to the Creator. Then we will reveal Him in a good way.
Question (Women Spain): (19:40) Why is the wisdom held back? Why is the light of faith coming from above and held back, is it a determined time?
M. Laitman: There are special times for this, but it depends more on our prayer.
Student: Toward the prayer we can accelerate it, speed it up?
M. Laitman: Yes, it depends on the extent in which we demand.
Question (Women MAK 113): (20:31) Can you tell me please, that faith is the feeling of confidence that the Creator knows all of our actions?
M. Laitman: Repeat please only in a clear manner.
Student: Faith is the feeling of confidence that the Creator knows all of our actions and will give us success for our connection?
M. Laitman: Yes.
Question (Women Kyiv 7): (21:27) In the article it's written, that when a person isn't on the path of truth, he thinks that he has a great extent of faith, and to that amount of faith it can be dispersed to more people so that they will be fearing and whole. How can you describe this state and why it's not the path of truth, because he wants to be in soul devotion?
M. Laitman: Faith is such a condition in which I operate as if I am before the Creator in absolute attainment, in a complete connection, in full love with the Creator, mutual understanding. Then it is called that I am in complete faith.
Student: What's bad about trying to dispense this to others?
M. Laitman: Don't be wise, do what I say.
Student: I just wanted to be precise here, why is this not called soul devotion?
M. Laitman: I don't even want to talk about that and how wrong you are, I don't want to scrutinize nonsense. Did we agree? Okay.
Question (Women Brasil): (23:25) Our egoistic desires are going to be corrected to the measure of our efforts in faith on the true path?
M. Laitman: To the extent that we connect between us on the way of truth, the relations between us will be more certain and safe.
Question (Women MAK 97): (24:14) Can you tell us, are there states that there is no strength for anything? Can I ask from the Creator for strength for myself in order to not to draw the Ten backwards?
M. Laitman: Yes.
Question (Women Piter): (24:39) How can the friends help each other to always be in this lack of faith, this complete faith that will be exchanged with all of the other desires?
M. Laitman: Friends can give an example to support, and then a person will see what he’s missing in order to acquire complete faith.
Question (Women ITA): (25:17) Faith in Him and prayer give us confidence. How can faith and prayer grow until the transformation of us?
M. Laitman: We don't know when it comes, it comes.
Question (Women Heb 2): (25:57) Question about one who wants to serve the Creator in truth and constantly examines himself if he is willing to work devotedly and with all your heart. He sees that he is always deficient in faith, meaning that he is always short of it. I have a question about the second part. If I am deficient in faith, does it mean that I am left in the recognition of evil? That I feel that I don't believe, this is my recognition of evil, that I am not there yet?
M. Laitman: Not there yet.
Student: Recognition of evil or?
M. Laitman: Not yet recognition of evil, it’s still ahead of you.
Question (Women MAK 86): (26:52) Can you tell us, this disappearing of fear can it be a sign that we got faith from above?
M. Laitman: No.
Student: What is the sign that we have faith?
M. Laitman: There’s no such sign. Yearn for the Creator to be felt as being before you.
Question (Women MAK 98): (27:26) I have such a question, that this greatness and smallness depends on the receivers. There is always greatness, but we are not in a state where we can feel it, is this right?
M. Laitman: If you don't feel, then it doesn't exist.
Student: How to put ourselves in such a lowly state that we will be able to feel that greatness?
M. Laitman: Ask.
Student: How do we check ourselves if we are ready to work devotedly with all of our hearts? How do we check ourselves if it’s possible?
M. Laitman: We see it according to a person, the extent in which one can give himself for the goal.
Question (Women Moscow 6): (28:20) In the article it’s written that they believed in the Creator and Moses his servant and came the time that he was able to be rewarded with this. Is Rabash already guiding you and the group on certain things that we should focus on?
M. Laitman: Whatever you need is what you will receive, and we already receive. Just use what you are receiving and then you don't need anything.
Question (MAK 25): (29:00) Is there such a question, the connection with the Creator, is that degrees, or does it just exist or doesn't exist?
M. Laitman: They are requests.
Student: What work helps to see every time if they are a new degree or not?
M. Laitman: Just like we learn, connect to the friends, through them try to attain the Creator, and by that, you’ll build those degrees.
Student: What if I don't feel a change and I don't feel a connection, does it mean that there’s a deficiency for connection with the friends?
M. Laitman: Yes.
Question (Tbilisi): (29:51) In our Ten there’s a feeling of readiness for annulment. On one hand, we lack the feeling of the recognition of evil but on the other hand, we haven't quite built the intention. Can you tell us how to connect these two points and to build it correctly?
M. Laitman: Move ahead, realize what you are reading in the Rabash articles, and then you’ll have a good future.
Question (Kyiv): (30:37) It's written that a person that has faith is standing before the King, and when he feels the greatness of the King, he can discover the love from both sides, in the good and in the bad.
M. Laitman: From the side of good and from the side of bad.
Student: How is this connected to standing before the King, and as a result of the faith to discover also from the harsh judgment and also from the good?
M. Laitman: It's a feeling, I can't pass this to you. Is it from the side of good, where you want to grow the good in you and in such a way come closer to the Creator, or you demand something and want to come closer to the Creator in this way?
Student: Question, there are many different possibilities, we can demand, we can get to it through love.
M. Laitman: Yes, what we do in life, we can ask, cry, demand in such a way.
Question (Karmiel): (32:15) To answer the friend's question, faith is a feeling of the Creator, and the feeling of the Creator comes as a result of the connection in the Ten from what I understand, and the connection in the Ten can be positive or negative. I understand that the Creator is sending only positive, why does it turn out that we ourselves are turning it into something negative, into some shattering? What to do with this, how to feel this shattered brokenness?
M. Laitman: Try to do all of this together, the friends, yourselves, yourself, your goals.
Student: It turns out that everyone has different goals and that's why there is this shattering and misunderstanding. How to build this one goal, and by that, we will ask, and as we ask there are more disturbances. Can we say that there is hatred toward each other?
M. Laitman: Well, you need to scrutinize precisely that.
Student: How to scrutinize this if we don't understand each other, we don't want to hear each other?
M. Laitman: Then how can you advance if so?
Student: This is exactly what I'm trying to understand, how can we advance in such a state, how to get out of it?
M. Laitman: I don't know, you simply need to put the death inside of you to the ego.
Student: If say not everybody is standing in the same measure, there are two that are annulling and the other two that are not annulling. What do we do with those that annul?
M. Laitman: Pray for the two other ones.
Student: Okay, I understand, so at the end of the day it's prayer, and this is the last preparation.
M. Laitman: Yes.
Question (Women Ukraine 2): (34:42) What's the path of truth?
M. Laitman: The path of truth is when we constantly appeal to the Creator with a request for Him to heal us from the ego.
Student: Who is the person who's seeking the truth?
M. Laitman: He's called a righteous.
Student: What's to see with all his heart?
M. Laitman: To feel.
Question (Women French): (35:30) I have a question from a friend, can we ask from the Creator for faith?
M. Laitman: Yes, of course, of course we can ask for faith.
Student: In the text, it's written that when he feels the greatness of the King one can discover the love in two ways, in a good way and in a way of harsh judgments. Can you explain what's the difference between these two ways of love, and why it's important to also feel it?
M. Laitman: Both from the side of good and both from the side of bad he can discover love.
Student: What does it mean actually?
M. Laitman: What?
Student: What's the difference between the love that comes from the good way and the love that comes from the way of harsh judgments? I understand we start with the recognition of evil and we understand that we want the opposite, even though we don't know what it is yet, so what is this discovering it from the good way?
M. Laitman: I don't know how to explain this to you. Both from the side of the bad and from the side of the good, I want to feel the attitude of the Creator towards me, meaning His love towards me.
Question (Women MAK 26): (37:42) If I understood correctly from the article, that the light of faith is always felt as a deficiency, that it can't be felt as having something that I can share?
M. Laitman: The light of faith is the feeling of connection, the feeling of connection with the Creator, and of course, it's always lacking, and we need to constantly ask for that.
Student: A person stands before the King and feels himself the greatness of the Creator, but he feels himself as something lower.
M. Laitman: Of course.
Student: This happens at the same time in parallel, feeling the two feelings, the greatness that is what's turning the lowliness of the self toward the greatness?
M. Laitman: Yes.
Student: That's what I was thinking, it can't be felt here that I have something that I can dispense, share with others, only the Creator has this.
M. Laitman: Yes.
Question (Women Spain): (39:34) The Creator hears the prayer of many. Can a prayer expand the vessel of the faiths of everyone?
M. Laitman: Yes, of course, prayer can do everything. Everything comes down to attaining that degree, it's all in the force of prayer.
Question (Women ITA): (40:10) How serving the Ten, the group, being the strength to serve them can lead us to the feeling of serving the Creator?
M. Laitman: I begin to feel that I have a connection with the Creator and here there's a question, how I can serve Him? I look to see by which actions I can serve Him, what does the Creator want? The Creator wants us to come closer to Him, so He'll be able to give us the filling, all the good. That's what we need to try to ask from Him and then that's how we will advance towards Him.
Student: There's another question, being in front of the King gives us fear and love, this is awakening and desire to embrace. Does our change start from here, the desire to embrace?
M. Laitman: Yes, yes, yes exactly.
Question (Women Azerbaijan): (42:14) The recognition of evil, is it a state, or?
M. Laitman: It's a state when I feel the extent in which I'm opposite the Creator.
Student: This feeling will be with us until the full recognition of the faith?
M. Laitman: No, this comes and goes on different degrees, don't worry.
Question (Women Moscow 8): (42:53) Truth is made from the faith or is the faith made from the truth?
M. Laitman: Truth is born out of faith.
Question (Women MAK 110): (43:14) We have such a question, I like our ability to be in faith, and this completeness of faith is giving us to want this connection with the Creator?
M. Laitman: That too is one of the reasons.
Student: What are the other reasons?
M. Laitman: In you, it's always kind of like everything, this wonder has to be, open up everything. Don't be in a hurry to swallow everything, it would be better to think of how you can use what you received now.
Question (Women Unity 3): (44:00) The states toward connection and prayer in the Ten to come out of myself, this is my choice, even though I have a will to receive that's always resisting it or is it the work of the Creator on each and every one of us?
M. Laitman: It is the work of the Creator, and together with that there's also a certain response on your behalf, a response.
Student: Personal?
M. Laitman: Yes, personal.
Student: Free?
M. Laitman: Well, I wouldn't say that anything is possible to be free, but let's say.
Question (Women PT 33): (44:49) My question is that when we attain this force of faith that we attain in all of reality, in all of the states that are good or bad, it is just the force of bestowal of the Creator. This means that we have attained the force of faith? The question now is that we never actually attain the quality of bestowal, that we will become bestowers, but that we attain that the quality of bestowal is what operates in all of reality, and that means that we attain then bestowal?
M. Laitman: Yes.
Student: Last question, as we learn, so by attaining that the Creator is operating in everything, and the Good Who Does Good, there's None Else Besides Him, and we've attained this, and that means that we become bestowers like Him or that we attain the quality that did not exist in us?
M. Laitman: We attain a quality that doesn't exist in us, and yes, now it starts to clothe us.
Student: This quality, is it just to see that that's what's operating or do we really attain it?
M. Laitman: We attain it, we attain it.
Student: I'll become a bestower? I'll be bestowing like the Creator?
M. Laitman: No, the difference is that you're operating from your lack, and the Creator is operating from His goodness, from His abundance.
Student: By attaining the quality, it's attaining that He is who is operating and there's only love in the reality, that is to attain the quality that we didn't have?
M. Laitman: Yes.
Student: We always remain in reception?
M. Laitman: Yes.
Question (Women MAK 56): (47:23) How to get to such a force of faith that we will not be afraid of anything other than the fear of not being in bestowal?
M. Laitman: We reach that. How we reach this, gradually, at some point it will be revealed to you, and for the time being now you can't jump from one degree to the next, but the fact that you're asking, that's already good.
Student: Can we ask another question from a friend, for what does a person get the force of faith?
M. Laitman: For a person to really yearn for it.
Question (Women Moscow 6): (48:09) It's written that from the two ways, from the good way and the way of harsh judgments you can turn to the Creator, and the good way is from the gratitude and the harsh judgments is from justifying the Creator? Also in the time of the harsh judgments can we give thanks?
M. Laitman: A person can be grateful at any given state.
Student: What is love, how does love connect these two different ways?
M. Laitman: Also love can be two-sided. In essence, a person needs to attain such love for the Creator that the Creator loves him but this is actually an unattainable degree, this is the end of all the correction.
Question (Siberia): (49:17) Can we measure the amount that we love the friend?
M. Laitman: Partially.
Question (Women Piter): (49:36) Love is always being revealed in the incorporation between the two sides, the bad reveals the good and the bad is only given when we have enough Hassadim to cover it. How to grasp in time this or that state, what the Creator demands of us? How to get this balance between the good and bad?
M. Laitman: We can't hold on to that balance and those calculations are completely egotistical. We need to try and be in absolute bestowal towards the Creator. Complete, meaning live in a state where you live in a feeling that you're connected to the Creator that way, and then gradually those feelings will come to their place within you and everything will be fine.
Student: What does it mean to be open toward the Creator? You’ll have to be closest, I don't have anything to hide from Him, what else?
M. Laitman: Well, that is something we will learn gradually together. In your questions, you are preceding our plans.
Question (Women Kavkaz 1): (51:20) If my love is revealed in two ways, the good and the harsh judgment, can we say that there are also two types of deficiencies, or lacks?
M. Laitman: Well, you can say but it will all get clarified later.
Student: Just a yearn for connection.
M. Laitman: Yes.
Question (Women Latin): (52:08) The new quality that can be felt with connection to the Creator, it means that a person needs to always turn to the Creator because he knows that nothing else will be able to save him, that he's already tried other things and discovered that only the Creator can save him?
M. Laitman: I didn't truly hear a question.
Student: It’s written that only the Creator can save after trying many different things and discovering that only the Creator can help.
M. Laitman: Yes, all the questions come from the Creator and all the answers come from the Creator. They just need to go through a person, both from the Creator to a person and from the person to the Creator.
Student: This is a state of faith?
M. Laitman: Yes.
Question (Women MAK 25): (53:19) Can you tell us if this harsh judgment that's given to a person in the Ten, how do we respond internally and externally?
M. Laitman: Help your friends in everything you can.
Student: This help needs to be in justifying, to help to justify?
M. Laitman: You can silently pray for them.
Question (Women Turkiye 8): (54:01) A question from a friend, can we say that the feeling of happiness from overcoming our egoism can be called walking with faith above reason?
M. Laitman: No, not yet.
Question (Women MAK): (54:25) How in the Ten do we get to the feeling that there's None Else Besides Him in faith above reason and what do we do when there's a certain complex between us after a workshop?
M. Laitman: It's all in you, continue and everything will arrive when you need it.
Student: This love can reach the friends?
M. Laitman: Yes.
Question (MAK 24): (55:10) My goal and intention, is this the same thing?
M. Laitman: Sometimes yes, but not always.
Student: no translation.
M. Laitman: I said not always.
Student: With the intention and the goal that is directed toward bestowal.
M. Laitman: It's possible.
Student: How to advance these feelings in a group, this desire?
M. Laitman: In the group, we need to advance these feelings. How should I say this?
Student: We’ll speak about this, to tell about this?
M. Laitman: Oh, that yes, no problem. Only in your Ten, yes.
Student: Sometimes you want to express your state and it just doesn't come out.
M. Laitman: In the group, in your Ten, it's possible.
Student: A question from a friend, to be in faith is to be in adhesion, to always be adhered to the Creator, so it turns out to always be holding the intention for the benefit of the Creator?
M. Laitman: Yes.
Question (Women Heb 2): (57:19) We feel every year that there is something very special in the lights of Passover. What is this internal action that's going on inside of us and how can we participate to be partners?
M. Laitman: Connect between you.
Student: What's special about the action of the lights of Passover?
M. Laitman: They're meant to bring us out of exile.
Student: What do they awaken in us inside?
M. Laitman: The necessity for redemption.
Student: To be more sensitive to it, to be more connected to it?
M. Laitman: Yes.
Student: How?
M. Laitman: Now I don't know. Awaken them, these are lights, and when they bestow upon you, you'll feel.
Student: May I ask too? The lights are felt as pressure, great pressure. The response instinctively is to want to bestow in order for this pressure to move on, but that's not the response of love, it's not a response of connection. It turns out that this pressure is only strengthening us in the desire, but also strengthening us in a way that it closes us. How do we resist this pressure and turn it into love that comes out to friends, to embrace the friends, to feel them in the heart, because it feels like there's a wall?
M. Laitman: We need to think about this more and more and to try for there to be good relations between us so these lights will go around between us and connect us, and we will feel them together.
Student: Let's say I have this pressure and I want to turn it into good for the friends, to embrace them in love. This is what the Creator is giving, I don't want to block it, so what do I need to feel, what do I need to ask for?
M. Laitman: You need to leave the lesson now and silently hear this lesson again at home, bye.
M. Laitman: We finished the lesson. I'm sorry, I am obligated to end on time. All the best to everyone.
